Yes, and I have now learned that he has four dachshunds. How lovely.

guineapiglet · 09/11/2014 16:07

...loved the Communards too...the other was Jimmy Somerville previous of Bronski Beat who did amazing stuff in the 80s.

In Archers land I don't remember ANY punks during the 80s. But continuing a musical theme, it was awesome to hear Ed and Jazzer listening to the irreplaceable Thin Lizzy in the lambing shed... Now an admiration of TL really dates meBlush

Hakluyt · 09/11/2014 16:11

We'll pardon me for breathing daddaddad Hmm

Hakluyt · 09/11/2014 16:12

I want Richard Cole's life. Shame about the having to be a Christian bit....

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 09/11/2014 16:15

Yes, morally it was always repugnant for adult men to prey on underage women. I wonder how many rock stars and DJs did behave admirably in the face of all that pressure to do what everybody else was doing. I doubt we'd have enough prison space for all the men who've committed sexual assault and got away with it, should they eventually be prosecuted and convicted.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 09/11/2014 16:16

I think you missed the winkie smiley there, Hakluyt.

kiritekanawa · 09/11/2014 16:20

guineapiglet - what I find really depressing on the Archers is that classical music is seen as the preserve of snobs or social climbers... a bit like making the one academic figure (Jim) a PITA, as opposed to being someone cool and insightful. Classical music and academia can have the energy of punk... but TA doesn't seem to get that (just as the scriptwriters don't seem to get all sorts of stuff)

DadDadDad · 09/11/2014 16:20

Hakluyt - sorry, was there something offensive in what I said? My attempt at humour clearly misfired.

Brian Cox was is the band D:ream (I believe they spelt it with a colon like that).

By the way, I'm a Christian, but I won't take offence...

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 16:21

From his own biography it sounds like he was particular interested in underage girls though. To me he falls in the same camp as roman Polanski.

Anyway, this is all gettibg a bit heavy!!

Back to the archers!!!

DadDadDad · 09/11/2014 16:22

Thanks, mimsy, I always try to be quite careful in my use of smileys to show when humour is intended: glad you caught that.

kiritekanawa · 09/11/2014 16:24

DadDadDad - didn't D:ream do "Things can only get better" as appropriated for the 1997 New labour election campaign?

(Blush I always conflate him with Brian May, physicist, of another well-known band)

DadDadDad · 09/11/2014 16:36

Correct, kiri. And doesn't Brian May have some badger connection thus bringing this thread back on topic! Grin

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 09/11/2014 16:40

Further badger connection - you won't believe this. Tim Bentinck has tweeted today that Pip has been re-cast and the new actress is called Daisy Badger. Grin I thought it must be a windup but in the same tweet he mentions the new Josh actor and I know that bit is true.

Icimoi · 09/11/2014 16:48

So Pip must be staying anyway. I shall be really cross if they decide to get rid of the rest of the family in favour of keeping her.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 16:51

Why have they recast her?

Seems like we are having a new broom

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 09/11/2014 16:57

It all makes me more and more convinced that they're not going to go.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 17:07

OMG. Seriously?

I pity any listener who has, for whatever reason, taken a break from TA over the last few months. They won't recognise anyone.

Is this what it's like to jump out of a plane with a parachute? Nothing but blind trust that it will be all right in the end?

(Not that "Pip" was much good in the role but ...)

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 17:09

Hope they recast the cardboard boyfriend.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 17:12

So are we to assume that every absence is a recast? Grin

Hayley?
Christine?
CHRIS??

Ok. If they change Maurice I'm done.

DadDadDad · 09/11/2014 17:17

Yes, maybe the plan is for David, Ruth and Jill to leave, then later return saying it was a mistake but played by a new set of actors!

Oh, nooooooo! Shock

LillianGish · 09/11/2014 17:18

Could they have recast her due it incessant moaning of this thread? (Btw DDD your Brian Cox comment made me lol!)

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 17:18

Have they said who will be playing new pip?

LillianGish · 09/11/2014 17:20

Going on previous form it will be some big name or offspring thereof.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 09/11/2014 17:21

Daisy Badger, BYOS (according to Tim B's tweet as reported by Mimsy Grin)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 09/11/2014 17:23

Born in 89 & went to LAMDA according to google
