Hi BYOS, I did see that, am usually a lurker rather than a ranter Blush

I hate to bring up he who must not be named, but I do look back a bit fondly on those times because we were complaining about the character - not about the writing.
It was perfectly credible in terms of the storyline, we just didn't like the character or the actor's voice.

That's the difference, in case any scriptwriters are reading this. Shouting at the radio because of a character is entirely different to shouting at the radio because of the writing and plot. In the latter case, you're losing your audience.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/11/2014 21:03

Totally agree just

OddFodd · 08/11/2014 22:10

Absolutely, Just. Depressing isn't it? The storylines atm are utterly asinine.

I've always felt that TA was a bit of a dirty habit because it's quite dull. Now I feel like I'm an idiot too because it's so shit :(

BringYourOwnSnowman · 08/11/2014 22:25

Well for me the archers has always been a character driven show

Unfortunately Sean prefers the sensationalist plot driven show if his previous body of work is anything to go by

CuttedUpPear · 08/11/2014 22:36

I second the previous poster's sentiment in that there are too many blunderbuss story lines and no coverage of their fallout.

This is the stuff of which Ambridge is built and that listeners come back to time after time. Salacious gossip in the shop, retributions from relatives, reflections on current (Borsetshire) events.

I will, however, accept a storyline where Debbie comes back to push Charlie into the sinkhole, but Adam rescues him and he and Charlie buy Brookfield together, leaving Ian to gather up his so-called BFF Hellin and leave the Am Vale to set up a gay adoption service in Felchester.

Eastpoint · 08/11/2014 23:29

I think it's a shame there's been no further comment on Ruth's miscarriage. I agree that after the huge build up of Roy & Lizard's affair we need some more post breakup discussion. Was Jill really talking to us not Susan in the post office when she told her not to gossip?

BiscuitMillionaire · 08/11/2014 23:45

Did anyone hear Ruth talking about TA on Saturday Live this morning?

Rev R Cole was quite funny, describing the show as no longer being a simple tale of farming folk, but more 'Felpersham's Got Talent, set-aside and civil partnerships'

I didn't hear all of it so not sure if they asked Ruth about the leaving Brookfield storyline.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 00:13

You mean I'll have to listen to Saturday Live? Shock Even the trailer on Today is depressing - all that jollity and bonhomie. I prefer (relative) obscurantism and damning with faint praise on Saturday mornings - although someone on CD Review this morning was forced to reveal that something had not been played well.ShockShock

BiscuitMillionaire · 09/11/2014 00:19

Yes Zero, and if you do you'll also have to listen to someone bidding more than 6k for a visit to TA studio (for Children in Need).

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 00:25

Dash it! I knew £20 wouldn't be enough.Grin

(Though judging by this thread they won't be able to give away such a treat next year...)

cheminotte · 09/11/2014 09:41

6k !!!! I was going to suggest we club together to get Pseudo on, but think we'd struggle to beat that.

ppeatfruit · 09/11/2014 09:53

justwhateverreally jazzer DID say something tasteless about the LizRoy affair, it was something like, " well that's the way to get on at work ,roger yer boss."

But I agree the siblings would've had a lovely goss. together about it. Which we didn't hear.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 10:16

They're having that conversation right now ppeat

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 11:39

Just had a dabble in posting in Aibu - will def be sticking to archers thread from now on!!

I really hate Saturday live - its just smuggery

Well it's Remembrance Sunday so will we have an over sentimental episode with everyone remembering someone that makes leaving Brookfield seem even worse or will we just get another shit episode?

PseudoBadger · 09/11/2014 11:45

Depends on whether they spend the wages on Alan BYOS. And smugula, Peggy, Carol (of course!), maybe even get Chris out of the cupboard for an airing Grin

OMG DadDadDad (to give you your proper moniker) I'm in awe of your bar chart. Still on P11 as just listened to the film, so my first viewing of it. Blimey, wish I was more computer/Excel literate (or is that Excel numerate?)Smile

toldmywrath · 09/11/2014 11:57

Funnily enough PigletJohn I believe that I, too, read the same DH Lawrence book. However, unlike you, I never took in the detail of the gamekeeping at all, that passed me by for some reason.
P.S. I'm up to P13 of thread now, in case anyone is wondering.

florencedombey · 09/11/2014 12:03

Zero, I'm with you - our radio is permanently tuned to radio 4 apart from Saturday mornings when we jump ship to Radio 3 for BAL and CD Review - cannot bear Saturday Live!

toldmywrath · 09/11/2014 12:15

Dad^3 "songbird - no wrath here" haha- I like that as I was missing from the thread (commenting before reading through it all as well)

DadDadDad · 09/11/2014 12:37

Aw, thanks, tmw. Blush

I'm off this afternoon to the annual conference of actuaries working in my sector, 1000 people who could produce those sort of charts (and a heck lot more) before breakfast. It might be too late to join us, but maybe next year?

unitarian · 09/11/2014 12:53

Another one here who loathes Saturday Live. DH loves it though so I can't escape it except by talking over it! (Revenge for when he talks over TA.)

BringYourOwnSnowman · 09/11/2014 12:59

And I know this is probably sacrilege but I never liked John peel either

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 09/11/2014 13:02

florence I'm struggling with Saturday evenings now - since R3 has messed up the timetable. Without an opera live from The Met or Opera North or whatever things are not quite right with the universe ...

If they're bringing back Tom I'm prepared to hold out some hope for an eleventh hour Brookfield reprieve.

toldmywrath · 09/11/2014 13:14

Dad^3 what is the collective noun for a group of actuaries? (nearly typed grope there!)
I love all things numerical, so I'd probably enjoy to be amongst your 'number' Blush
PetulaG I'm also glad your grannie is still well, but I thought of heather that grows when I read your comment (particularly as the name wasn't capitalised) if she had a fall she could go downhill very rapidly like heather

toldmywrath · 09/11/2014 13:16

BYOS I don't like/never liked John Peel either and if I hear London Calling it makes me shudder
