I love low field - they are always looking for new summarisers if anyone is interested

As a most part foreigner I find the constant British class wars really tiresome! Please can we have something a bit less cliched

unitarian · 06/11/2014 00:52

But Phoebe's destined for Phreddie!

I wouldn't mind if it were Tilly or Lilly. Neither speaks.

cheminotte · 06/11/2014 06:44

Don't MN do a census which would give ages? Presumably used for advertisers.

Perhaps Olivia can help.

GypsyFloss · 06/11/2014 06:45

I reckon it's Phoebe that RichJohn saw.

guineapiglet · 06/11/2014 07:20

...we are also expected to believe that Kenton did not push the glass spelling John T at the impromptu seance at The Bull... It was a real spirit wot dunnit ....Grin

Bluestocking · 06/11/2014 08:39

Hi PigletJohn, of course not, they are all as bad as each other. But you said there were the same number of women and men - I was just pedantically pointing out that there is only one Emma whereas there are two Grundy men.

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2014 09:19

BYOS as a part time foreigner in Fr. I find a good number of people here MORE class conscious than the English; They go ape for someone who lives in a chateau or has a 'de' in their name. They love our royals too. (bizarre when you think about the Revolution Grin

Huntin' and shootin' are just country pursuits so would of course feature in TA. Though if Brian changed to clay pigeon shoots that'd upset Will Grin

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2014 09:24

Blithe Spirit is a very 'arch' play\film by Noel Coward with the best part taken by Madame Arkati an elderly medium, brilliantly played by Margaret Rutherford when I saw it. (unless Linda's character is meant to be a good actress it'll just be farce Grin )

cheminotte · 06/11/2014 09:42

Thanks ppeat - what about the character of Edith?

cheminotte · 06/11/2014 09:42

Thanks ppeat - what about the character of Edith?

mummytime · 06/11/2014 09:54

Okay having read the synopsis on Wikipaedia - we need to look out for who is cast as Charles, Ruth and Elvira. I wonder if Jenny or Carol is going to be Madam Arcati? Or will Linda nab it.

It could be a clever Christmas with hints of something happening with Rob/Helen/Jess? It could be good or could be pretentious.

I'm hoping for great writing.

mummytime · 06/11/2014 09:56

Oh Edith is the maid, who is quite key, as she is the conduit for the hauntings.

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2014 10:05

Edith has at the most one line Grin poor Susan Grin

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 06/11/2014 10:06

Blithe Spirit is a hoot. I've only seen the film version with Rex Harrison and Margaret Rutherford. I always crack up when MR says 'Is there anybody there? One knock for yes, two knocks for no!'

Edith is a small but key part - she's the maid and it turns out she is the one who has inadvertently summoned the spirit of Charles's first wife - but I don't know what Susan will make of it.

I'm quite certain Lynda will be Madam Arcati. That would mean Oliver = Charles. Kenton would be a much better choice given the character's age. Hmm.

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2014 10:10

Oh dear it's meant to be a surprise about Edith isn't it?

unitarian · 06/11/2014 10:19

I'm sure we all guessed Susan is going to be disappointed with the role of Edith, ppeat!

Is the spirit of John T going to disrupt rehearsals?

I notice Johnnie mentioned he'd been talking to Helen so she does meet people occasionally. She told him the Road is Bad which probably means Rob thinks it is Good.

mummytime · 06/11/2014 10:25

Oliver is the Doctor, and Caroline his wife - I think thats what was said last night.

But if the SWs are listening: I expect parallels and potents with what else is happening in Ambridge.

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2014 10:44

She will be unit but I meant the plot of Blithe Spirit has the twist with Edith at the end and we're probably not meant to talk about it. You know like a 'whodunnit'?

PetulaGordino · 06/11/2014 10:51

ppeat when i lived in france i worked with a woman who had a "de" name. it was a big deal - we all knew the family history. they had regular cousinades at their family chateau (which they all called "ma maison")

R4 · 06/11/2014 11:03

My immediate Blithe Spirit thoughts were:
Either, we go with the Tregorran / Carol / JD triangle. Compare and contrast - this time it's the bloke who is the dead one and the women live.
Or, Edith is the conduit for the spirits so Soosan is the conduit for the spirit of Emmur and the ensuing triangle with the Grundy boys. In the play the only solution is for Mr Lynchpin to run away, leaving the two wive behind. So Emmur will be leaving Ambridge too?Shock

I think this literary angle to TA is a bit of a mistake. It makes you realise that there are only Seven Basic Plots in the world and TA have probably run them already, several times. Instead of making them look academic, it makes them look as if they have run out of ideas and are resorting to nicking other writers' tales. They would do much better to read a few RL Borchester Echo (not least the Court reporting) and get some believable, current storylines from there.

ppeatfruit · 06/11/2014 12:39

Exactly Petula One woman nearly fainted when she thought we lived in the chateau in our village !! I kept repeating a' cote, a' cote le chateau Grin

Delurking briefly once more to say that I'm 48 and have been listening since around the time of the Siobhan/Brian affair.

DadDadDad · 06/11/2014 14:59

trevor - I'm glad someone appreciated my double entendre humour. From your name, are you a man? Maybe it's a male thing. (No, that wasn't meant to be another double entendre).
