I thought that exchange was entirely in character for both Elizabeth and Jill. Still waiting to hear what Mike has to say about it or has he already been written out?

Bluestocking · 23/10/2014 19:33

That was mega-disappointing but actually yes, it was in character. Lizzie can do nothing wrong in Jill's eyes. Poor Frilly - they are going to have to deal with the trauma of having Rotaboy installed as their stepfather. Nigel and Julia must be spinning in their graves.

CuttedUpPear · 23/10/2014 19:35

DadDadDad your stats make me lose the will to live but I don't want you to stop! It all adds to the delirious eccentricity of these threads Grin

CindyLou · 23/10/2014 19:37

I really want a huuuggggee disappointed "oh" from Jill
So well characterised! She does that!!!
Like others, puzzled that Roof & David seem to think they can put an offer on the Hexham farm at some point in the future if and when the road is confirmed, since
a) it might been sold, as Graham thingy said
b) or how they gonna sell before a decision when any searches will show it as a possibility. thus fritting the potential purchasers?

DadDadDad · 23/10/2014 21:05

cutteduppear - thanks! Er, wait... What?!

OddFodd · 23/10/2014 21:48

I love your posts DadDadDad. I wouldn't dream of predicting when the next thread would start right now - I'm going to wait until after Sunday's film

Jill and Lizzie was vomtastic this evening. Lizzie and her stupid self-pitying tears. Proud? Why would you be proud of your daughter destroying a family who've already had a fair old bit of trauma? Yuck Angry

Icimoi · 23/10/2014 22:05

Right, I'm taking up DadDadDad's challenge and nominating 2nd November as the day this thread comes to an end.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 23/10/2014 22:11

Hello! I've just caught up on the last few episodes, having been caught up in reading A Song of Ice and Fire recently. Some similarities there, of course!

Anyway, to take up DadDadDad's challenge, I'm going for Wednesday 5th November, 7.01pm as the point when this thread ends. Smile

So much to love on this thread already - Ninja Jill especially!

Robert Snell = Dr Graham Blockley. How odd would it be to consult Robert Snell about your piles...

DadDadDad · 23/10/2014 22:24

Two players - great! Interesting choices. (And by interesting, I mean wrong).

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 23/10/2014 22:48

It's not over till it's over, DadDadDad!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 23/10/2014 22:53

Oh yes,and on the subject of Elizabeths who are actually known as Elizabeth and not Liz, Beth, Betty etc etc - I've got one. She is even more adamant about not being known by any other name than I am, and that's saying something. My own name has just as many possible short names as hers and although I often like them on other people I can't stand them when applied to me. This seems to be hereditary.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/10/2014 23:00

Mimsy - what do you know about Brian's sister Liz?

DDD I'm expecting events over the next few days. We'll need a new thread for the Hunt Ball fiasco. (I hope.)

PumpkinGordino · 23/10/2014 23:31

I thought Jill and Elizabeth was done quite well. Right for the characters and really, what else can jill do in that situation? She can't help Hayley and she's got her sobbing bereaved daughter in front of her

unitarian · 24/10/2014 02:01

I think Jill did the only thing she could do and I love the way she made a bee-line for Susan.

Next she's going to work on Frilly - and if Jill even hints at going to live with Lizzie then David will refuse to sell up.

I'm not sure whether Lizzie ignoring Roy's voicemail at the end of the episode means that she's resolved to resist him now she's got her mum's support so I'm wavering ever so slightly in my conviction that she & Roy will end up together. Has Lizzie developed enough steel to cope with pre-HB crises without him or not?

The thread will end on October 31st - after the Friday episode.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 24/10/2014 07:37

Hi, Zero. All I know about Liz is that she exists. If she ever spoke, it was well before my time as a listener. He married Jennifer some time in the 70s and I started listening actively in the very early 80s.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that when Brian was introduced he was not as strong or colourful a character as he is now. Then suddenly in the late 80s he was having an affair with Caroline and there were strong hints that he had been philandering all the time. Charles Collingwood was as surprised as everyone else, but extremely pleased as he now had something to get his teeth into.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/10/2014 07:39

You see I think the going to talk to Susan stuff was silly. Elizabeth has behaved badly and being bereaved does not excuse that.

My mother would have certainly told me that in no uncertain terms whilst continuing to love me.

I really wanted Susan to mention Hayley who is the actual victim in the situation but I guess she just doesn't count. I mean how many years did Hayley work for Elizabeth?

mummytime · 24/10/2014 07:42

Oh I think talking to Susan was key. In my family however much you might be in trouble in the family, the family would defend you outside and certainly try to shut down gossip. Admittedly Jill isn't giving Lizzie the roasting that my Grandmother would have given her, behind closed doors.

MrsCampbellBlack · 24/10/2014 07:47

But you can't shut down that type of gossip especially in a small village. Elizabeth just needs to do a Kate Moss and get on with it.

But Jill should know better - people will gossip but all Jill has done is add more stuff to talk about with the 'poor bereaved elizabeth' stuff. If I was Susan I'd be pissed off about being told off like that.

Interesting that Ed was telling Jazzer off when he was joking about it - he remembers what it was like.

I think Elizabeth was wistful when listening to Roy's voicemail and they're definitely going to have at least one more encounter.

If only Elizabeth would show some remorse for what she did rather than for being found out.

PumpkinGordino · 24/10/2014 07:52

no i don't think the bereavement is an excuse either, i was looking at it from jill's POV and their characters - to jill she's poor lizzie, bereaved, lonely, vulnerable etc

and my mother would have made it very clear how disappointed she was too

TeenyfTroon · 24/10/2014 08:14

DadDadDad your stats make me lose the will to live but I don't want you to stop! It all adds to the delirious eccentricity of these threads.

Exactly CuttedUpPear!

What else would you expect from a bunch of people who listen to and comment on TA?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 24/10/2014 08:39

I love the stats!

My mother would never, ever have let me forget this and there would have been no question of patting me on the back and being nice.

unitarian · 24/10/2014 10:28

My mother would have disowned me outright so I would cut my DD some slack if she did the same as Lizzie.

I would do what Jill's done.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 24/10/2014 10:43

My mother and I would not have had that excruciating conversation. I would have had to pack a bag in the night and leave the country.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 24/10/2014 12:05

Zero, sounds like your mum and mine are cut from the same cloth!

Swannykazoo · 24/10/2014 13:54

Maybe there will be one more encounter...where the sperm encounters the egg...then Jill can do the mega "ohh" as Elizabrat will have put her own health in jeopardy what with her dicky ticker.
