I'm all for dramatic storylines but they have to be realistic! The archers has generally done slow burn stories well but not atm.

I think I will be taking a listening break but I will hopefully get my updates here!

BasketzatDawn · 02/11/2014 19:36

I do wonder if I stopped listening to TA and hence this thread - and so less time on MN in total - how much more I'd read - and write and watch all the DVDs that are awaiting my attention. It is tempting esp. the way TA is going. But I'd be scared to miss something.

P.S. It must have been The Ps on Fridays - it had a young Susan Hampshire in, so that was The Ps, non?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 02/11/2014 19:36

Maybe the next thread title should be

'Aliens landing in the village green, Susan refusing to spread gossip and the archers moving from Brookfield. Yay to realism in the archers'

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/11/2014 19:47

My young life was traumatised by Soames and Irene ...

Don't know what to say about tonight.Sad

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/11/2014 19:52

I know Susan Hampshire was in FS. I don't recall the Pallisers at all, strangely.

PetulaGordino · 02/11/2014 20:17

susan hampshire was in the pallisers too! (probably makes things more confusing)

R4 · 02/11/2014 20:32

Given how easily the Brookfield DC took the decision to move (did I hear right? was it sorted in a one hour lunchtime break?) what will be the reaction when the Mysteriously Disappearing Water reverses the Council decision? Will they all meekly go "uh? OK then, we'll stay here" or will they have been infected with wanderlust and all three of them desert Brookfield, leaving D&R heirless?

How many MNers have threatened to give up on TA in the last hour?ShockSad

RocknRollNerd · 02/11/2014 20:35

In amongst the direness of that episode I fear we have forgotten the inspired 'he blames everything on badgers' from Jazzer - a welcome moment of levity and the kind of nod to insiders I like (as opposed to a concise history of the Archers summarised by a character for no obvious reason that we've had far too much of lately).

PseudoBadger · 02/11/2014 20:39

Oh I love a Badger Parade.

Bluestocking · 02/11/2014 20:41

But if we're here, who's grooming the badgers?

BasketzatDawn · 02/11/2014 20:47

'he blames everything on badgers' could go into a thread title at some point - I hope.Grin

PetulaGordino · 02/11/2014 20:48

as someone whose parents moved around as a child, i can promise you it is not something most children, teenagers or otherwise, take in their stride so easily. that has actually really really pissed me off. it's so incredibly dismissive of what is an enormous upheaval and incredibly stressful

unitarian · 02/11/2014 20:50

DD was happy to move house some years ago (so long as she didn't have to change school) but moans like crazy if I move a piece of furniture, and I've just been considering making some fairly drastic changes.

Yes to Jazzer's laconic comments tonight bringing some levity to the proceedings.

It was a nice line. Just hope Jazzer is being adequately paid for passing on all this PhD-level pig psychology.

Newish Josh. He's appeared a couple of times before. Angus Imrie, son of Celia. The accent is South London, or should be.

Stepford Children at Brookfield, clearly.

"“It is with much sadness that I must announce that after 17 years of playing Tom Archer in The Archers, the show’s editor has taken the decision to re-cast the part,”

News of Mr Graham’s exit comes just two weeks after Sean O’Connor, editor the Archers, told the Telegraph he was re-casting some younger characters in favour of more experienced actors. “I think there was an issue with the younger actors, who have been recruited not from drama school but from local community drama groups,” he said. “What I have been doing is bringing in slightly older actors to play younger characters, because they have been trained and know what they are doing.”

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 02/11/2014 22:47

Goodness me.

PetulaGordino · 02/11/2014 22:54

golly. that suggests that tom will be back soon

BringYourOwnSnowman · 02/11/2014 23:18

Well that to me tells me all I need to know about how things are going

Tom was played by a perfectly good actor.

Instead he has chosen actors for josh and phoebe that seem to lack much ability (johnny is good though). I'm sure they will improve but undermines the argument for getting rid of mr graham.

Change for changes sake and probably because he has a buddy who has expressed an interes in a part and there realised they've reached the limit of new characters

OddFodd · 02/11/2014 23:39

Bloody hell. While the archers has it's share of dire actors, Tomorrow wasn't one of them. What's with all the luvvies? New Tony, Carol, Justin, Josh ... Jobs for your mates Sean?

OddFodd · 02/11/2014 23:40

Its share not it's! Bloody autocorrect

BringYourOwnSnowman · 02/11/2014 23:44

There was a big thing in the press recently about how acting was becoming for the elite ie those who have money

I think that's rubbish - the elite are those with contacts. Look at most actors under the age of 50 and they will have a relative who is in the business

I guess me graham doesn't know enough people.
