i didn't get the whole séance thing at all. i think it might have to be one of those archers things where i just pretend it didn't happen

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 31/10/2014 19:16

Well there was no Doom Music....

LillianGish · 31/10/2014 19:41

I can't helping that the lack of any comment on here about the Route B announcement says it all. I think it is the sound of listeners leaving in their droves. Can anyone think of a single transport project decided at such speed? Brookfield will probably be sold by the end of next week and Justin Elliot installed and David and Ruth an who ever goes with them will become the subject of pointed reminiscences to remind new listeners of the programme's history. Probably the worst ever plot development in the programme's history.

LillianGish · 31/10/2014 19:44

That's worst as in most poorly executed. Get rid of them if you must, but do it in a realistic way and in a realistic time frame. Burn the farm down if you are in a hurry - it worked for Grace.

Eastpoint · 31/10/2014 19:44

It just seems completely implausible that a council could do anything so quickly, they can't even implement a controlled parking zone around here that fast. So silly. What about the sink hole etc, are those going to crop up again?

Icimoi · 31/10/2014 19:54

So was that a planning decision, or was it just a decision in principle that route B was the option they would choose? And what about the Brown Hair thingy?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 31/10/2014 20:01

Utterly ludicrous. It can take decades to get a new road route agreed. How many months has this been?

BringYourOwnSnowman · 31/10/2014 20:08

They do like their storyline per both character and any basis in reality. It is going to come to a point where they gain some listeners but lose loads. And the new listeners won't stay for long. My parents have stopped listening and I'm tempted tbh

I think route be won't happen because either
A) there'll be an undercover sting showing Justin Elliott bribing council officials

Or

B) Henry is indeed opening his gateway to hell under ambridge and the planners will decide its a health and safety risk

Either way, Brookfield is not going to be a suitable location for Justin's country pile because its too close to the motorway. When rich people but a house in the country they want a house in the country, not a house 500m from the ring road.

This whole story is a load of old shite which shows the sw lack wit, research skills and any concept of 'long term'

IrianofWay · 31/10/2014 20:10

Still haven't caught up. RL has been far shittier than TA this week Sad

However I don't find the Brookfield/ Route B storyline dull. In fact I was in tears over the whole moving to Northumberland thing - I have a weirdly strong sense of place, history and belonging. To me it's really painful.

And Helen isn't the only woman abused by the arsehole. Jess is also a victim of the Robber-baron. Wanker!

Icimoi · 31/10/2014 20:18

Justin could be being Macchiavellian, though - buy Brookfield at a knockdown price due to Route B, then lean on/bribe everyone concerned to change to one of the other routes, shortly before turning Brookfield into Tesco Towers.

PumpkinGordino · 31/10/2014 20:18

sorry to hear that irian Sad

i agree with BYOS (should get that tattooed on my forehead) in that i still don't think route b will go ahead

i jsut can't suspend my disbelief over the storyline

Icimoi · 31/10/2014 20:22

I suspect that the sole purpose of yesterday's seance was to pave the way for today's. After yesterday's we were all supposed to be thoroughly thrown off track and lulled into the view that it was all just a joke storyline, only to be presented with the notion that John at is back and hell-bent on ensuring that Carol gets her due punishment for all her murders.

But it's still a right load of rubbish.

Icimoi · 31/10/2014 20:24

I also don't believe in route B. All this stuff about water has to be leading up to something important in Ambridge terms.

BasketzatDawn · 31/10/2014 20:55

And I can't believe that a pretty girl 'deserves' to be out on a Friday night enjoying herself any more than a moderately attractive individual. I also can't believe Jolene is so shallow as to think that anyway. Tonight's epi was the pits really, though at least there was no 'OOO noooo' from Rooth at the end. I agree with Toomuchtea above about the coconut shells being out of kilter with the dialogue. I'm no horse expert but I was thinking it all the same.

PumpkinGordino · 31/10/2014 20:59

it's a bit like when you watch a cheaply produced sitcom and there's a scene in a car, where the driver is moving the steering wheel around like a toddler in a toy truck but you can see through the back window that the car is driving dead straight

PumpkinGordino · 31/10/2014 21:00

(yes i know they're not really driving btw - in case that wasn't clear and i just sounded a bit thick!)

Panzee · 31/10/2014 21:14

In our house when we see someone turning the wheel like that we quote the Mighty Boosh: "What are you doing? It's a straight road."

Bluestocking · 31/10/2014 21:19

That Route B announcement was just the pantimost thing of the whole recent pile of pants. The only good thing at the moment is the Knobcheese story.

BringYourOwnSnowman · 31/10/2014 21:23

Agree blue stocking but I fear they are going to ruin that by over doing it when Jess gives birth

Bluestocking · 31/10/2014 21:37

You're probably right, BYOS, but I am holding on for a really good development whereby Rob manages to convince Helen that it's her fault that Jess has just given birth to his baby, and then gets the two of them to compete for his favours. Or something.

There was a great missed opportunity this evening for a Jill "ooh!" and a Ruth "ooooah noooah!" at the Route B announcement.

polyhymnia · 31/10/2014 21:57

I thought we did hear Ruth utter 'oh nooooooh'.

Bluestocking · 31/10/2014 22:06

I thought that noise was Jill not Ruth?

Well Dave and roof had excess water and ed didn't have enough I thought

I also wonder if the actors are seeing the writing on the wall! I do feel like Peggy, Jill etc are getting big storylines and then they will be deaded

My worst fear is that the Brookfield archers live to be near heather and its Jill that dies (from a broken heart?).

I'm sure we coul start a list of badly researched items that are making it unrealistic (either research of external things or characters). I would start with

  1. the road decision being so quick
  2. the Brookfield teens being perfectly happy with the situation
  3. Roy and lizzie
  4. shitfest and in particular getting the pet shop boys at short notice
  5. the entertainment at the hunt ball and Oliver's odd behaviour
  6. bert managing to build raise beds in half the time it would take a team of burly twenty something's
  7. horse riding commands vs hoof noise
  8. lizzie not being a bitch about the money
Bluestocking · 31/10/2014 22:33

Definitely agree with you, TooMuchTea, re unspooked horses. They've always done it - sound effect is tranquil clip, clop, clip, clop, and the actor is going "whoa, Cranford Crystal, easy there!" or "it's ooo kay Major, calm down boy, it's only a pheasant" or "steady there, Topper!"

St Smugula has a particularly annoying way of saying "Stead-ee!" which if I was a horse would make me want to stop, drop and roll on her.
