Sorry, I didn't mean to vanish!

I was just really suprised it wasn't as obvious to her as it is to me and all of you! I wonder if I spend too long on MN?!

Unitarian- I think that is a very good point. Helen is quite happy with her situation at the moment, however the dress thing last night made her sound not so happy and a little worried. But overall I think she still feels happy. I think that abuse has to work that by the time you are not happy, you are already trapped. I think there is quite a way before their relationship gets to that point. I hope this story line carries on in this same slow burner way at the moment it is very well done.

Thy dont need Ian to go on holiday for Adam to cheater. Cheaters will cheat no matter where heir partner is!

Unless the sw are using the angle 'gay men can't keep it in their pants so leave them alone at your peril'

ppeatfruit · 30/10/2014 16:41

Hello everyone. Just heard yesterday's repeat and not the rest [my computer says I need something or other to Catch Up).

A 'shot girl' is a sexily clad gel in stilettos making sure everyone gets pisssed at a club or somewhere . A bit downmarket for a Hunt Ball IMO but it sounded VERY downmarket to me Grin.

It sounded like Simon Willliams has a sore throat or something. Mind you he's deffo a bit of orlright. So Rebecca is Charlie's sister is she ? Though with C's morals I wouldn't put incest past him either [ thlshock]

ppeatfruit · 30/10/2014 16:43

Sorry I wanted the opportunity to use the witchy hat !! Halloween Shock

unitarian · 30/10/2014 17:13

I'm sure none of us really expected Jess to give birth in the ballroom as per any of our fantasy HBs so I'm not in the least bit disappointed.
The version of the HB they gave us was, I think, really quite disturbing and cleverly done. I don't only mean the Helen/Rob relationship though I do agree that she's less happy now than she was as a result of last night.

It was in a way a homage to Wuthering Heights because I was reminded of the scene where Cathy and Heathcliffe are looking in through the window at the Lintons. They're drawn to the warmth and glow but can never be comfortable when they are inside it.
I felt that Adam & Helen were outsiders looking in last night torn between wishing to be part of the bonhomie yet uneasy about it at the same time.

I wonder what the HB would have been like if Nigel were still alive. I feel he would have been a gracious host and charming to Justin as a guest but he wouldn't have fawned over him. There would have been blokishness but not outright misogyny and Nigel had the better pedigree than anyone there but he would have made all the guests equally welcome and not left standing at a closed door.

I may be over-thinking it!

WipsGlitter · 30/10/2014 17:17

If my DP tried to tell me what to wear I'd tell him to F off!!

squeaver · 30/10/2014 18:01

Justin Elliot's going to buy Brookfield!

PseudoBadger · 30/10/2014 18:06

Wips I reckon Helen thinks she would too. Until it's actually happening.

Justin Elliot's going to buy Brookfield!

Not putting down a month's deposit on No.1 The Green then?

Sad
Bluestocking · 30/10/2014 18:27

Helen's "fiercely independent", remember?

DadDadDad · 30/10/2014 18:30

What about if your DH suggested that what you were wearing wasn't best suited to whatever event you were going to and suggested something different?

I mean, I fully agree that Rob's approach was controlling and under-mining, but there is a way (surely) in healthy relationships for one side to comment on clothes and even ask for a change? (It's the difference between genuinely suggesting and insinuating disapproval).

DadDadDad · 30/10/2014 18:32

Although thinking about it, I don't think I'd suggest such a thing to my DW, but if she asked me, I would say (and have said) if I thought something didn't look right.

PseudoBadger · 30/10/2014 18:34

She's an adult and can make her own decisions. If she's cold/warm/looks like a twat that's her problem.

It's a seance, not human sacrifice

BringYourOwnSnowman · 30/10/2014 19:07

Ian lives!

But he's already starting to be shunned...

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 30/10/2014 19:08

Already a nice juxtaposition with Helen's gathering a couple of days ago. Brian never imagined that Jenny would take any notice of him re the seance!

BringYourOwnSnowman · 30/10/2014 19:09

More contrived regurgitation of history. Is it actually true!!!

justiceofthePeas · 30/10/2014 19:10

My ex used to pass remarks about my clothes and not in a you look nice way.
And he is EA. And an ex. So it rang true to me. Hel sounded worried but I thought she was worrying she had misjudged the dress. If you have the slightest insecurity it is easily exploited.
I don't actually think the rs is out and out abusive yet. There are red flags aplenty and he is manipulative.

But at the moment he is just maneouvering her into position to really start cranking up the control. Currently she can still leave too easily if he starts screaming and shouting or lashing out.

Yay. Ian.

And yet more history lessons (although I appreciate them)

BringYourOwnSnowman · 30/10/2014 19:12

So Ian does speak to Helen

And Adam wants to know where he stands with charlie

BringYourOwnSnowman · 30/10/2014 19:16

Well wasn't that funny

Hakluyt · 30/10/2014 19:21

Why on earth wouldn't Helen know what was appropriate to wear to a Hunt Ball? She will have been going to them on and off since she was 16!

justiceofthePeas · 30/10/2014 19:25

She did allude to that but he said its not just the ball it is my work blah blah blah and she is trying so hard to be the ideal supportive wiflet, stepping into Jess's shoes.

unitarian · 30/10/2014 20:23

Ian and Lillian in one episode. They do read this!

Lillian is a delight. Poor Ian.

BasketzatDawn · 30/10/2014 20:29

But shurely if she was feeling the evening chill, she could have worn a pashimar or something. Soosan has a naice one, I believe. Or it used to be naice. Grin

BTW I've checked on a 'proper' gestation calculation and reckon Jess's babe is not yet cooked. My rationale goes thus: If conception was around 10th Feb, then her LMP would be around a fortnight earlier, so she is only around 38-39 weeks just now. There could be another couple of weeks to go yet.

And congratulations to Giraffe. I hope it all goes well this time for you. Flowers Cake P.S. One is for eating; tother aint. Halloween Smile

So who all was at the séance? I heard JD and Lillian. My hearing is rubbish at present.

BasketzatDawn · 30/10/2014 20:34

I used to think we were all so spot on with our analysis because, well, we are such sharp cookies an have our fingers on the pulse of Ambridge. But I am now thinking they've got some trainee reading this and feeding back to THE team. I wonder how we can test that theory!

Does anyone actually like Oliver? I find him a tad creepy. I know he is kind and helpful to Ed - which is a good thing as I like Ed. But ....
