Basketz, it's Arran. Good place to be an OAP, as there are so many of them.
OddFodd, yes, Prudhoe is a real place. Apparently it has/had a loo roll factory.
Essexmummy, if the SWs choose to stick to the facts, yes, David and Ruth can't just sell up without reference to the rest of the family.
Years ago when Phil and Jill retired, there was a lovely juicy family row over who would inherit Brookfield. P'n'J originally intended simply to hand Brookfield over to David and Ruth lock, stock and silage pit. Their view was that Shula had inherited Glebe Cottage from Doris (Phil's mum) and had also been left very well off after Mark died, Elizabeth had married into money and Kenton had already had all his debts paid off (twice), so they were all sorted out already.
Shula was at her sanctimonious best insisting that this was all perfectly fine by her as she needed nothing but her parents' love. Elizabeth and Kenton, however, were both very upset and angry, and said so in some glorious rows. Elizabeth had a scene with Phil where she explained that it made her feel like they didn't love her, and incredibly Phil swallowed this, rather than telling her not to be so selfish and greedy (story of Elizabeth's life, of course). So after some thought and discussion with their accountant, P'n'J presented a compromise.
The limited company that owns the farm would have A shares and B shares. David and Ruth would get all the A shares. These are the only ones that matter while the farm remains in the family's ownership. David and Ruth get all the profits from the farm, if there are any, and can pay themselves a salary, of course, besides. However, if they ever sell up, the B shares come into play as the sales proceeds would have to be shared between the A shareholders and the B shareholders. Shula, Elizabeth and Kenton all have B shares.
I think Elizabeth and Shula are also in line to inherit Glebe when Jill dies.
I might have some of the details wrong there, but that's the gist of it. If D'n'R sell up S, K and E all get part of the proceeds. I wonder if (a) D'n'R have remembered this and (b) (more importantly) the editorial team have.
