A big showdown tonight I hope.

Thanks to Zero (I think?) for the great title.

He gave her permission to see whoever she wants. How generous

GypsyFloss · 13/10/2014 20:25

I do like the way that they are playing out this storyline.

MollyBdenum · 13/10/2014 20:37

Lynda is my absolute favourite character. I remember one year when all the oarts in the panto went to non-speaking characters and all the regulars kept making disgruntled comments about it all.

What has happened to Ian? I stopped listening for a couple of months and he seems to have vanished.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 20:37

I actually, actually want to kill him.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 20:38

Grin Not Ian! Rob.

GypsyFloss · 13/10/2014 20:43

Tonight I could actually imagine him hitting her and her apologising for upsetting him. He is very chilling and incredibly well played.

PetulaGordino · 13/10/2014 20:49

yes i like the way they are handling this. it is very realistic

apart from the jess pregnancy thing, which i agree with pp (sorry i forget who) feels like overegging it and distracts from the other stuff

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 21:03

That was me petula!

The new sw seem to go for over dramatising stories

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 13/10/2014 21:20

The SWs aren't new afaik, BYOS - just the producer. But presumably he is driving the storylines & they have to go along...

PetulaGordino · 13/10/2014 21:25

sorry BYOS for forgetting it was you who said it!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 21:28

Yes sorry - I see him as an organ grinder so they may as well be new sw!!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 22:03

I'm not sure how well they are playing rob. He is gettibg a bit cardboard cut out baddy for my liking.

PseudoBadger · 13/10/2014 22:58

I loved Brian and Jenny and the uncomfortableness

OP posts:
unitarian · 13/10/2014 23:34

But Rob isn't an obvious baddy though. He nursed Henry, though I fail to see why Helen couldn't do it, and Helen praises him to the skies for it to those few people she has contact with these days so he looks more like a candidate for sainthood!
Was his ulterior motive in nursing Henry to get her to give up work? It seemed a bit long-winded when she would have done the same if he'd just asked her to outright. Maybe he just can't stop himself being manipulative, eg, the way he manipulated Tom.

He's a strangely complicated character. Ian, Adam & Kirsty saw through him right away. He was obnoxiously laddish at the stag night and fiercely competitive with Ian over the bike ride. He was totally out of his depth and unconfident doing that guided tour of the plant and then turned savagely on Jim. He was also savage with Jess.

Anyone care to offer a diagnosis?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 23:46

Multiple scriptwriterality disorder?

mummytime · 14/10/2014 01:03

Well my rather unpleasant Grandmother was wonderful if you were ill, just could be unpleasant when you were well. She would also defend herself and her family like a tiger, but could turn on you in private.
If you read the relationship board lots of people describe their abusive "D"Hs as "wonderful fathers".

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 14/10/2014 07:35

I meant more the way he is portrayed to the listener rather than how the other characters react to him

GypsyFloss · 14/10/2014 07:42

Grin Zero bingo!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 14/10/2014 08:39

What do you think the established character actors make of the new broom producer?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 14/10/2014 08:47

In an interview shortly after he took over Patricia Greene (Jill) made it plain she was delighted. This may have been because she felt she had been sidelined a bit in Vanessa Whitburn's final years in charge.

I know all is not perfect but I still think TA is better on balance now than it was two years ago. Remember the endless months of HWMNBN? Pip whining on?

I like the Helen/Rob story (foundations laid under VW, of course). The current road/let's all move to Prudhoe story is of course idiotic. However, I am living in hope that it will all be over soon.

vixsatis · 14/10/2014 08:57

OOoooh! Sounds as though I missed a good one. Can't wait until Sunday

ppeatfruit · 14/10/2014 09:07

Did anyone think OMG ADAM !!! Another one in Jenny's family with a less than perfect record for fidelity Shock. He dtd with Charlie with no 'seeming' guilt as well (we didn't hear any ). Perhaps he only feels guilty if it's with an underling. Shock

PetulaGordino · 14/10/2014 09:09

debbie was cheated on but has she ever cheated herself?

if so, then alice (and ruaridh, who hasn't yet had the chance afaia) is the only one who hasn't had an affair

ppeatfruit · 14/10/2014 09:11

AllMImsy Yes I agree. I like the way that Jill is much more dominant in the story now too.

ppeatfruit · 14/10/2014 09:14

Alice NEARLY did when at uni though didn't she Petula? Which is quite true to life IME Grin
