A big showdown tonight I hope.

Thanks to Zero (I think?) for the great title.

Is Canada a euphemism? Like in eastenders they all go to Spain.

I don't think Roy would leave his daughters. He is a good dad.

Now I have accepted the highly unlikely affair has happened I would rather see it as a mid life crisis and a (massive) blip in the behaviour of an otherwise decent chap. Roy will regret this ubtil the day he dies (assuming they don't kill him off) whereas I have less sympathy for, say, Brian who goes into his affairs fully compis mentis and only seems to regret gettibg caught!

KatieKaye · 13/10/2014 14:37

Lynda and Vicki had a wonderful heart to heart a few years ago, when Lynda told her how she'd always wanted children. It was very moving.

I love Lynda! She's one of the few characters that can always be relied upon to speak her mind and she has a heart of gold - look how she supported Vicki when Bethany was born. She's a stalwart in organising village "do's" like the panto, the Ambridge Olympics etc. And just the fact she puts up with Leonie without braining her makes her worthy of sainthood

GypsyFloss · 13/10/2014 14:50

Re Roy. If Lizzie had said yes then he would have left his beloved daughters to go and parent Frilly instead. He's only back and upset cos it's all gone horribly tits up and he's got nowt.

As for Brian, I reckon Jennydarling knew exactly what she was getting with him and signed up for the lifestyle that went with it.

ppeatfruit · 13/10/2014 15:19

I agree on both counts Gypsy Grin. JD ADORES being the Squiress of AMB. She's a real social climber.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 15:26

I don't think he would have though.

I find it too implausible tbh anyway

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 15:34

In fact the only way I can rationalise Roy's behaviour is by believing he is in the middle of a mental breakdown of some sort

LillianGish · 13/10/2014 15:50

I agree BYOS - brought on by Tom's volte face at the altar with Kirsty and Brenda's departure for pastures new. I would also say Mike and Vickoi, but I think their decision to move was after he and Lizzie dtd.

RocknRollNerd · 13/10/2014 16:36

I've said before I think Lynda when she did Vicky's laundry after Beth was born and said she'd bought the same fabric conditioner so the clothes would smell familiar to Beth was one of the most touching things I'd heard. I think Lynda's a great character, she is highly annoying in 'sniff and panto' mode but it's part of who she is and she ran GG like a trooper when Caroline buggered off for her hols; the Two Grannies scenes with Lillian are also a little treat - she's actually one of the most rounded characters whilst still being a 'character' I think.

I don't think Pheebs is under any illusions about adults having feet of clay is she, she knows about Ruari as well as Kate's shocking approach to parenting (which was exacerbated by the affair she found out about in Amex in South Africa), she just saw Roy as different - he got stability by proxy from Hayley. She calls both Hayley and Kate mum I think doesn't she?

I like the idea of drunk Roy and/or screaming matches as Mike and Vicky try to sell the cottage....Mike wouldn't leave the dairy business for Roy to look after would he? Roy isn't employed at the moment - I hope he doesn't I'd quite like a silent dairy owner, perhaps Mr Button will buy it?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 16:43

I think Lynda is a very honest character and what you see is what you get. Unlike a lot of the new characters....

nauticant · 13/10/2014 17:10

I really like Lynda. She was infuriating when she first arrived but since then there's been years of character development with a much kinder and more considered side emerging. This has turned a rather ridiculous caricature into a real person. Having been won over, I feel a particularly affection to her.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 19:03

Love Brian revelling in the gossip!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 19:06

Helen is so tactless towards Lynda.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 19:09

"Gosh, is that the time?..."

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 19:10

And now Helen has to ask to see her friends???

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 19:13

Sounds like he does want her to be lonely.

The trouble with the story is that Helen seems to love being controlled

'Praise me, praise me, tickle my tummy'

Love Jenny's dig at Brian

And Justin will be at the hunt ball! That will clearly be quite an episode!!

TeenyfTroon · 13/10/2014 19:18

I love Lynda too. Unlike the new Heather. I instantly got a picture in my head of Mrs Brown with a Prudder accent. The old Heather had a soft, pleasant voice. So I hope she SOTMC ASAP.

Kirk1 · 13/10/2014 19:19

Phew! Finally caught up!

Loved Phoebe giving it to Roy. So now he's all alone. Boo hoo.

Jenny seems to be rubbing in the "I know how Hayley feels" thing at Brian!

unitarian · 13/10/2014 19:19

Rob will appear to encourage her to join and then make snide comments about knitting patterns & recipes.

So, Justin's coming. Lizzie's next love interest?

Kirk1 · 13/10/2014 19:22

Rob has really done well on Helen, making her think she came up with the idea of staying home "for Henry". How long before she's bored out of her mind?

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 13/10/2014 19:23

Helen is so completely self-absorbed - I couldn't believe what she was saying to Lynda Hmm

'Gosh, is that the time?' was hilarious. I was trying to decide who was looking where during that conversation Grin

Kirk1 · 13/10/2014 19:27

What did Helen say to Lynda? I must have missed that bit!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 19:43

Something about how wonderful it is to be a full time mother. Angry

And then when Lynda said she'd love to work less if she ever could (poor woman's at or past retirement) Helen just steamrollered on with her nonsensical wittering. AngryAngry

unitarian I'll be very surprised if Rob doesn't organise an emergency to prevent Helen seeing Emma. His response was chilling. The way he had her clamouring for permission and thooooought about it and finally gave his blessing. AngryAngryAngry

PureDeadBrilliant · 13/10/2014 19:44

And when is the Hunt Ball?

GypsyFloss · 13/10/2014 19:59

Rob most definitely will put a spanner in the works and the Emma meet up will be off. In fact I wasn't wholly convinced he would eat her lovingly made old trout.

Kirk1 · 13/10/2014 20:05

Oh, he's still in positive reinforcement mode, he'll keep praising her efforts until she has no independence left. THEN he'll start with the "you can't do anything right" shit.
