A big showdown tonight I hope.

Thanks to Zero (I think?) for the great title.

OP posts:
vixsatis · 13/10/2014 09:08

Nobody will move anywhere= the David and Ruth thing is just a device to demonstrate how badly blighted businesses/homes are by railway/road/solar power schemes. Heather will die.

Thank God for the lack of pantomime- it's the same every year and really dull

Hurrah for Hayley!

Rob is getting more and more evil and Helen more and more pathetic. This is by far the best story line at the moment

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 09:30

Heather will die. Sad

AlternativelyGrin through some horrid elder care initiative she'll meet a nice man, regain her strength and spirits, move to Spain and be scarcely heard of (except as a holiday destination for grandchildren) for the next 15 years. My fingers are crossed for her.

PetulaGordino · 13/10/2014 09:40

it sounded like roy was watching superman or star wars when phoebe came home

EBearhug · 13/10/2014 09:58

I think Jenny is all too glad to have Phoebe there, knowing Brian can't say anything because she just took in Ruari, and Pheebs is actually both of their grandchild, and she'll hope it will bring Kate home, and will end up massively disappointed when Kate suggests Phoebe goes to live in SA instead. Kate being Kate, Phoebe will end up feeling rejected by everyone.

JuniorMint · 13/10/2014 10:09

Carol Tregorran to take over the directing of the Christmas show and make it a roaring success much to Lyndy's chargrin?

CuttedUpPear · 13/10/2014 10:13

Brine is in Eastenders?

Shock
CuttedUpPear · 13/10/2014 10:15

Oh god I, just want Carol TrePlotDevice to fall in a sink hole now.

And I luffs Eleanor Bron. Sad

PetulaGordino · 13/10/2014 10:15

kate i thought?

i would be very sad if carol did that to lynda. i love lynda

trevortrevorslattery · 13/10/2014 10:33

I love Lynda too. Has she become more sympathetic over the years do you think?

Please tell more about Brine in Eastenders!

Roy is so pathetic. I wish he would get the boot and Hayley and the girls would remain in the show. Sadly I expect the reverse will happen.

I think someone upthread said it was completely implausible that Vicky wouldn't have had his guts for garters by now - I totally agree. I actually like Vicky too and would love to hear her giving him a piece of her mind.

PetulaGordino · 13/10/2014 11:04

i read an interview with the actress not long ago (though i think it was written a few years ago), where she said that when she auditioned the producers were surprised that she portrayed the character as "unpleasant" but that they like it

and i thought "i don't find her unpleasant", so she must have changed over the years - i think she was originally a yuppie type without a proper understanding of the countryside and country life, and she must have developed an understanding as she has become part of the village and made friends

GypsyFloss · 13/10/2014 11:25

I love Lyndypops. She is such a stalwart of Ambridge now. I hate Carol , she's sly and up to something.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 11:29

I don't think Lynda has ever quite lived down the manner in which she arrived. (From Surrey?) They were rich enough to buy Ambridge Hall and Lynda clearly saw herself descending to civilise the natives. She was scathing about real country life but took up lots of Marie Antoinette pursuits. And then Robert was made redundant (?) from his well paid IT (?) job and simply could not get another. So she had to find a job herself. (With few openings for professional lookers down noses.)

She has acquired some humility working at GG. And the SWs have humanised her over the years (particularly in any story regarding children.) But she made a spectacularly poor start.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 11:46

(BBC Blog says it was Robert's own business and he went bankrupt... what do they know?? Grin )

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 13:01

Sorry - it's Kate who is in eastenders

LillianGish · 13/10/2014 13:02

I think Lynda was spectacularly bossy and over-bearing when she first arrived and also extremely pretentious with her Feng-shui and Laamas. In fact she still is all of those things and you often hear other characters groan at the mention of her, but as the years have gone on her many other characteristics have become apparent - to the listeners and to the other characters. I think she is quite realistic - irritating, but heart is very much in the right place. Also an absolute lynch pin of the community - in fact her being bossy is actually an asset in this respect as she gets things done. She's great because she's not one-dimensional - she's not a plot device. She's also perfect for radio as she has a very distinctive voice - dh (an occasional listener) never has to get me to clarify who is talking.
I don't think Roy will kill himself as that would be too like Helen's ex. I wonder if he might be off to join Tom in Canada. I still think Phoebe will end up in South Africa. Christmas with Kate and then she doesn't come back maybe?

Pilcrow · 13/10/2014 13:11

lyndypops is sometimes misunderstood and I know has her moments of being someone you'd feel quite tender towards, but IMHO those moments are few and far between, unfortunately.

Most of the time she bugs the hell out of me with her sniffing and strangulated vowels. And why is everyone so darned polite to her when she bosses them around so outrageously?!

Sadly I too feel that there will be some form of Xmas show, alas.

Given the current abysmal plots, Pirandello's '6 Characters in Search of an Author' suggests itself Hmm

ppeatfruit · 13/10/2014 13:19

Ref. Pheebs at JD's. She's going to learn that most adults have feet of clay isn't she? Poor girl will loose her teenage naivety idealism ,unless they lie through their teeth Shock which will be difficult given the parents of Ruarhi ! As another poster said Grin.

mummytime · 13/10/2014 13:24

Or "Why did John Tregoran leave you those books Grandma?"

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 13/10/2014 13:33

Gregs suicide was a long time ago

Perhaps Roy doing the same would propel her further into robs clutches

LillianGish · 13/10/2014 13:43

Does anyone else think one or all of John Tregorran's books are going to turn out to be worth a fortune?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 14:00

.... Or perhaps (like the painting) turn out to be connected to Carol's bio-parents?

The SWs must be so tempted by Canada for Roy. I'm sure by now Tom has built up an empire and might need a manager for his wilderness hotel....

trevortrevorslattery · 13/10/2014 14:01

Thankyou for clarifying about Eastenders Smile.

Is Lynda not able to have children?

Ah Brine. I do like him a lot. I think it's because I've heard Charles Collingwood on other radio shows and he seems like a good old chap.

Doesn't Phoebe already know where Ruairidh (sp) came from?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 13/10/2014 14:14

Lynda was born in 1947 so it would be quite expensive to produce some now...

I've always understood that she and Robert married in middle age. Not sure if they wanted any or not.

PetulaGordino · 13/10/2014 14:18

i thought there were fertility difficulties but i may have made that up?

i know several people like lynda (as she is now). quite annoying in RL, but they do get things done and actually with the best of intentions and kindness at heart.

GypsyFloss · 13/10/2014 14:27

Yep, there's at least one in every village/ church/ community. There's a couple I see in my head whenever Lynda speaks.
