A big showdown tonight I hope.

Thanks to Zero (I think?) for the great title.

OP posts:

I think you can do a bad thing and end up in a shit situation but doesn't mean you deserve to be stuck in it (I will make exceptions - like hitler and pol pot for example).

I think he was in a situation he never expected and let himself get carried away. His head was turned by the appeal of ll - don't think it was lizzie but her position. A bit like when people blow off the president....

Struggling to feel empathy for lizzie but I think that's because she feels so sorry for herself she doesn't need anyone else to

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2014 20:59

Brummies are allowed out, you know, Zero!

She should find Kirsty and set up a commune for People Betrayed by the Archer Clan. Ian could soon be joining them so the catering will be fab. Actually in a different sense Jill too, so there'll be pie for afters.

I have to say I rather liked Carol tonight. Peace between Bert and Joe, and a sympathetic ear for Jill.

GypsyFloss · 10/10/2014 21:04

I hear Carol as not genuine and I don't know of it's the actresses delivery or the writing. I think of her as sly and gathering information to be used for her own ends.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 21:06

I agree gypsy

But then Jess sounds nuts and I'm not sure if that's just bad delivery

GypsyFloss · 10/10/2014 21:17

Definitely , Jess always sounds slightly unhinged.I find it hard to distinguish whether she's chirpy or beginning to lose the plot.

Carol sounds like she's playing a part in Midsomer Murders. Looking briefly at her wiki page I wonder if that's due to previous stage and tv work rather than radio.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2014 21:26

Don't give the SWs ideas - the way they seem to be getting rid of long-standing characters this year, they might just go for a TA/MM crossover to accelerate the process.

cheminotte · 10/10/2014 21:34

That's quite dark Zero - do you mean because Phone is not her daughter she has no rights to see her even though she's brought her up.

To whoever was querying Helen as 'careergirl' - I would guess some people / generations would call anyone who chose to return to work a career

cheminotte · 10/10/2014 21:35

a career girl.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2014 21:46

Phoebe's 16/17 - surely she gets a (major) say in who she lives with? Even if she goes to live at home farm she'd be sure to visit Hayley and Abbie often, wherever they are, I'd have thought.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 22:10

I'm concerned Roy will quit his job and lock himself in the house to listen to his music loud and then kill himself

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/10/2014 22:12

she'd be sure to visit Hayley and Abbie often, wherever they are

That's what I meant - if Hayley and Roy really have split up Phoebe will only ever be "visiting" her (half) sister, and Abbie only ever visiting Phoebe. Unless they do that difficult 50/50 thing. Which could hardly work for school.

I know city dwellers are allowed out Errol. But there's such a huge difference between livingin the country and booking the odd weekend in a country hotel.

KatieKaye · 10/10/2014 22:17

I don't think Vicki would stand for the loud music, so I don't think you need worry too much!

And when she finds out what's been going on - light the blue touch paper and retire to a safety

OddFodd · 10/10/2014 22:17

Oh that's a bleak thought BYOS :(

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 22:20

What is that band he was listening? Can't remember but they make me feel depressed.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2014 22:24

This is weird - you lot keep going on about music but I still haven't noticed any - well, apart from the Harvest Supper renditions of course.

R4 · 10/10/2014 22:27

I know it's good drama to have Hayley confront Lizzie but in real life wouldn't LL say "Sorry, I've been told by my solicitors not to discuss matters with you". Why did she engage, why not stall with a "no comment"?
The SW live in an alternative universe.

Oh, and I am getting bored with all stories being either compare-and-contrast or spot-the-parallels. So tonight's was a C&C: Hayley leaving Ambridge v. Jill staying put.
Enough! It feels like painting by numbers.

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 22:29

Radiohead was it?

Bluestocking · 10/10/2014 22:34

I was sure Jill was going to expire peacefully in Carol's arms, having established that Doris was waiting for her in the great farmhouse kitchen in the sky.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 22:38

Yes radio head! Enough to puh anyone over the edge

I actually think David and Ruth have been really irresponsible and selfish putting this worry and stress on an old lady. I mean David boo hoping about his heartbreaking and he ha to do it cos his wife says so and not being able to move without her - no pressure then. Slap the bitch down Jill and let Ruth know you're the boss of Brookfield and you'll tell them when they can leave

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 22:40

Sorry about typos (not over infested at all, no siree)

BasketzatDawn · 10/10/2014 22:46

Another option is that Hayley has a weekend in Brum with Abbie and her parents - and a good friend or sis if she's got one gives her some pointers (or MN Relationships thread if no RL pals) for the next step.

Being the good mother she is she won't want interruptions to routine, education, etc for either child and she did say she was going for a few days to decide what to do next. Points will include speaking to a lawyer (no, not Usha!!) in the next week, and meantime telling Rota to leave the family home so she and the girls can have some peace and continuity. I hope one of her family will also remind her she has done nothing wrong and it doesn't matter what the villagers think/say. And most will be kind/supportive. As a short-term measure Rota can get a room in GG - I'm sure Caroline will oblige with that.

Longer-term Hayley might decide to leave the area but it would be a bit naff if tonight was her goodbye. But we don't know why Rota wants to stop working at GG - is it because it's 'below his pay grade' and he's bored out of his silly skull, or has something else happened?

Under Scots law a child can decide which parents s/he lives with, after parental divorce, from the age of 12. Is England not similar? though I think it is a bit older there? JD would be thrilled to have Phoebe to stay and at least she'd be well fed and have warm feet at breakfast. I think Brine would be a good kind of granddad, though as a husband he's not that great IMO.

R4 · 10/10/2014 22:51

Slap the bitch down, Jill

Ha! What happened to the excessive empathy?Grin

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 22:53

Oh I feel for Ruth with her motives just not her solution!

And staying on Henry is the antichrist - he was born the day the saintly Nigel died and only ba things have happened since then haven't they?

BasketzatDawn · 10/10/2014 22:55

The Brookfield saga just pisses me off. What I was meaning last night about David as a 'mummy boy' has been explained more eloquently by others. What right does he have to take his aged mother oop north when he has 3 sibs in the area with as much desire and right to see their mother regularly if not every day? And we might not like Carol but Jill clearly does and she seems very happy to have her companionship now. Esp. as Peggy ahs gone miserable - and silent.

At least so far the Hayley/Rota/ Lizard triangle has kind of been realistic. Or as much as TA team can manage. I suspect Lizard has head in the sand - despite being great businesswoman - and has done nothing about legal advice.

It would be a shame for Hayley to leave the countryside now she's got used to pigs and other animals.Smile

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 22:57

That would be bad things. Clearly lots of baa things have been occurring for years in ambridge.
