A big showdown tonight I hope.

Thanks to Zero (I think?) for the great title.

Note to self

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 14:14

Just listening

  • it's chicken pox not Ebola. Why is everyone so surprised she's coping?
  • Helen a a career woman?
  • really David and Ruth? You think you can just pluck an old lady out of a community an graft her into a new one? And they haven't even considered what they can afford or other consequences? And how little EQ do they have that they couldn't tell she was mighty pissed off? And why should David leave his mum so Ruth can be close to hers - of course it's a factor. Don't think it's to do with him being a mummy's boy
  • why is Jill not a professional poker player?
  • and Lynda has this problem every year but always puts in a hell of a lot more bullying effort
  • why is Jill being the voice of the sw? Hey everyone, this is why we can't be bothered to do a Xmas show this year
  • why have they got a child younger than Henry to play Henry and speaking in that weird way?
PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 14:17

if it weren't for you lot i wouldn't have known that henry was speaking too young for a nearly 4yo. how old does he sound?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 14:19

He sounds like my 4yo when she's pretending to be a baby.

And he uses unusual turns of phrase. That's why he sounds like Damian from the omen to me

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 14:21

haha damian

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 14:25

If Henry is Damian then rob must be the evil nanny brought in to protect him from the forces of good. Helen was chosen as mother due to her general ineptness.

'Oh rob, it was so tiring today cleaning up all the vomit and trying to stop his head spinning round. I can't think what the matter could be.'

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 14:27

he hasn't got a tricycle has he??

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 14:27

Gah, I'm on a bus and this baby has been staring at me for the last five mins. All this talk of Damian has freaked me out!!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 14:28

If we hear squeaking in the background we will know what it is now!

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 14:29
Grin

actually on the desktop site there is a video on the RHS which has a still of a VERY cute newborn. it is making me (unhelpfully) broody.

i'll think about damian bus baby instead

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 14:32

He's still doing it! Going to look out for speeding bikes when I get off...

On the plus sides, in all Helen scenes from now on I'm going to imagine Henry triking up and down in the background giving evil stares

trevortrevorslattery · 10/10/2014 15:11

why have they got a child younger than Henry to play Henry and speaking in that weird way?

Ah I thought this too but was too scared to post it as I have no kids so didn't know if I was right!
I can't match the fully-formed and properly constructed sentences and words with such a babyish voice. poor little lamb

stilllearnin · 10/10/2014 15:25

Not happy about this Ruth and david thing. Not just because I had a crush on Ruth some years back. It's unrealistic I should think and incredibly selfish. Of Ruth and her mum. Actually perhaps if her mum gets wind she'll put a stop to it- we are under v strict instructions to live our own lives and caring for our elderly parents will only happen if temporary.

Will H start getting things wrong for Rob's idyll? When is jess due please?

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 15:41

speculation on this thread has suggested early november stilllearnin

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 16:09

thanks for the good luck trev, all done now. am scared and relieved at the same time

trevortrevorslattery · 10/10/2014 16:27

YEHA! well done petula. Have a large Wine to celebrate!

David actually irritates the shit out of me. He's decided that Jill would obviously need to go with them wherever they went. Just because she's old doesn't mean she's helpless FFS! I know she was spooked by the burglary but she has lots of friends in the village, and I don't picture her as frail and vulnerable. I hope Jill is planning to cash in her share of the farm and go and travel the world on the proceeds - and she's just remaining non-committal about it now because she hasn't fully finished her grand plan yet Grin.

That's got me thinking about the portrayal of other older people on TA actually.
Peggy - frail
Jill - Deevid obviously thinks she can't do without him
Joe - comedy central
Jim - I like Jim. not sure how old he is of course but at least he is still shown as mentally active and a real person.

HUMPH. Not sure where I am going with that rant actually! It just gets my goat when older people aren't seen as fully-formed people any more.

Anyway. Have a wonderful weekend all!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 10/10/2014 16:34

I thought it was David needing his mum!

Re Henry, my ds had advanced speech and chatted like an old man at that age but he didn't use the weird turn of phrase Henry does. Dd was more typical and she definitely didn't sound like that. To me he sounds two and a half.

And then there's the annoying giggle that you only ever hear in a pampers ad.

They clearly need a parenting advisor as well as an agricultural one!

unitarian · 10/10/2014 17:09

Amazing number of tractors out and about this afternoon! I've taken to peering into farmyards too. There's so little arable farming round here I'm unlikely to see a Home Farm model but your average tractor seems to be a single seater. The dogs hang out of the window or ride in the trailers.

unitarian · 10/10/2014 17:12

There was also a really lovable looking sheepdog puppy riding on a quadbike on the farmer's lap while the cows were being taken for milking.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/10/2014 17:54

stillearnin - Ruth did say her mum had told them not to move on her account, or words to that effect.

Round here, there's someone who regularly drives round the lanes in a horse and - I want to say 'trap', don't know what the correct term is - anyway, it has a sort of open backboard and there's always a sheepdog sitting on it.

ppeatfruit · 10/10/2014 18:00

stillearnin D & R DID say that Heather said they mustn't entertain the idea. They'll just blithely ignore her then Grin

Ref. Henry; You lot are mean !! He speaks well and quite like a lot of squeaky little voices in my classes! At least he speaks, there are quite a few 3yr. old boys who don't or can't Grin

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 18:05

Sometimes on my way to work I encounter the hounds for one of the local hunts being taken out from their kennels for training. I love it - they flood the road (you have to stop the car) and run round the cars and are so gorgeous. Their handlers are all on bicycles and wear flat caps

unitarian · 10/10/2014 18:06

A local lad used to drive 5 miles to school on a tractor! There are very few suitable places to overtake so there would be a line of cars behind it with purple-faced drivers.

PetulaGordino · 10/10/2014 18:17

Grin Unitarian. It must be a perk

A school friend of mine whose family were farmers used to drive 30 miles to school in an old landrover that was open to the air in the footwell. He used to FREEZE in winter

unitarian · 10/10/2014 18:20

Agri-diesel...
Landrovers get stolen round here.
