How about we immortalise Schrodinger's Baby in the opening paragraph?

How long will this thread last DadDadDad?

Well I've always said she treated him in a mean girls way! He is a little over keen but she has played him

People who tell it like it is are just rude though

PetulaGordino · 22/09/2014 19:46

Carol is good for the reminiscing parts, and some of the barbed comments are entertaining but yes she would probably be insufferably rude in real life

I think fallon has used the fact that PC plot likes her to her advantage, but I still think he is creepy especially with his little hurt "I thought better of you" guilt trip

BitOutOfPractice · 22/09/2014 19:49

I think that was a fair enough comment because dinging someone by text isn't a very nice thing to do because we can't read it and she has totally blown hot and cold with him - reeling him in then cutting him off.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/09/2014 19:58

He obviously really likes her and she ha been giving him mixed signals

She's been a bit crap - the whole Facebook thing and hen texting.

As for carol - I guess that's why she comes across as a plot device or Greek chorus. Or maybe they are trying to show her as sociopathic and therefore guilty of killing John in cold blood

HamAndPlaques · 22/09/2014 20:04

Not just by phone, by text. Low.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/09/2014 20:09

Although maybe I'm behind the times but do the yoof of today actually dump via twitter? Maybe that makes dumping by text a little less low!!

choccyp1g · 22/09/2014 20:32

But like Fallon said, they weren't really in a relationship; we haven't heard even that stupid mmmmm sound to indicate a kiss let alone the squelching sound that stands in for sex.

choccyp1g · 22/09/2014 20:39

Or have the sw been cheating and letting them DTD off air

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 22/09/2014 20:44

she did say thought that his phone usually goes to voicemail - would a voicemail message have been better or worse than a text?

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 22/09/2014 20:44

though, not thought, soddit

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/09/2014 20:45

We weren't really having an affair, it was just sex... Using the word really is always a cop out!!

She was leading him on and they went on a few dates. There may not have been kissing etc but I think she led him to believe there would be! Wasn't there a kids at loxfest before he arrested her dad?

PetulaGordino · 22/09/2014 20:46

i think they did kiss at bolloxfest? to give him confidence or somesuch

i don't think dumping by text is the done thing either, but they're not in a relationship and i don't think we ever knew exactly how she worded it?

i don't know... it's just when he said "i thought better of you" it seemed like yet another instance of him wanting more from her than she was able to give. i know she's used him in the development of her business etc, but he shouldn't have expectations

LillianGish · 22/09/2014 21:05

Fallon and Plod is such a tedious storyline and is it my imagination or his his Northern accent getting stronger? He is such a dull character - when he first appeared he was supposed to be a heart throb, but ever since he has had a speaking role there has been nothing about him to persuade me that this is the case. He also seems extremely two-dimensional - he's handsome (allegedly) and he's a policeman (like a children's TV character Postman Pat type policeman). I can't believe old favourites like Robert, Matt and Jim have been sidelined to make way for him. Rant over (but I do feel better for that).

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 22/09/2014 21:12

Totally with you Lillian!!

The sw think Roy is a hunk so plot may well be less appealing than we are led to believe

LillianGish · 22/09/2014 21:23

Good point. At least Plod was flagged up as handsome - even if he doesn't appear to have been written that way since. Roy, on the other hand, has never, ever been a hunk from his being christened Roy, to his thoroughly unsavoury youth, to his dull, dependable dad incarnation. It makes me thoroughly nostalgic for the days of the likes of Nelson Gabriel where you never saw a photo of the cast but just from the sound of their voice you could conjure up a handsome lothario and although you knew he was entirely unsuitable person for the young Elizabeth to be hanging round you could kind of see the attraction.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 22/09/2014 21:42

Oh I loved Nelson - he was so smooth & droll

Davros · 22/09/2014 23:28

Henry blofeld always makes me think of Nelson.
Last weekend I heard someone calling to their child "Ptolomy"!

unitarian · 23/09/2014 00:39

I hope Ptolemy doesn't have a sister.

The Fallon/Plod story seems pointless unless they really are going to end up together but surely she's destined for Jazzer, or so I hope.

Icimoi · 23/09/2014 06:43

it's just when he said "i thought better of you" it seemed like yet another instance of him wanting more from her than she was able to give.

Surely not? In that instance he was saying that he thought she was a better person than someone who would dump a bloke by text. Is that really asking too much of anyone?

I don't mind either character, but I don't get this upcycling nonsense with Fallon. At best it's a passing fad, not the foundation of a flourishing business like the SWs try to make out.

Davros · 23/09/2014 07:27

Ptolomy did have a sister and I listened carefully for her name and now can't remember it. It was something like Maddie, not weird but not very very popular. I must wrack my brains

Eastpoint · 23/09/2014 07:33

Davros, did her name remind you of small oranges & were you in west/south west London? Not my DCs but I know a Ptolemy with a big sister.

R4 · 23/09/2014 08:23

he was saying that he thought she was a better person than someone who would dump a bloke by text. Is that really asking too much of anyone?

One shouldn't dump by text but ... if you really want shot of a bloke, I would imagine it's quite good. Fallon, instead of wriggling uncomfortably, should have said "well it proves that I am not the sort that you want to go out with".

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 23/09/2014 08:38

The Life Scientific will be talking about Schrödinger's cat in half an hour....

mummytime · 23/09/2014 09:14

Umm Maddie is very popular around here, I don't know any Ptolemys though (maybe the mum liked the Ptolemy on that saving endangered buildings programme a few years back).

Davros · 23/09/2014 09:20

I have got LS on series ink, love it.
Eastpoint, I really can't remember the name but the one you suggest could be correct. We were near Newbury but they could have been visitors to the area like us.
I agree that dumping by text gives a really clear message that you don't want to be involved with someone, harsh though it is. I don't see how they can ever become a couple so they are both now going to have to find other partners. Might mean some good storylines
