How about we immortalise Schrodinger's Baby in the opening paragraph?

How long will this thread last DadDadDad?

Roy is really painting himself as the victim in this isn't he? Fair enough he deserves some compensation for having to leave his job, but he seems to believe the rewritten history of events he fed to Hayley. I think previous posters were right when they predicted that this is how Hayley will find out the truth. I don't feel sorry for either of them (Roy or Elizabeth). They are as bad as each other - Elizabeth because all she ever thinks about is herself (but that's not a new development) and Roy because he was so utterly faithless to Hayley who absolutely didn't deserve it and if he'd had his way he'd have left her and moved into LL.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/09/2014 08:31

I don't know.

If I reversed the genders I would feel the boss was more in te wr

PetulaGordino · 20/09/2014 08:36

I am actually at LL as I type this. At a friend's wedding in a beautiful stately home in the country

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/09/2014 08:37

Oops

So to finish my point! If te genders were reversed I would feel the boss was majorly at fault. I don't think lizzie declaring her love for him was done out of anything other than manipulation.

Ultimately there are two different things here

  1. the mess caused by boss/employee affair which should not leave Hayley worse off (which she will be if Roy is unemployed for a long time regardless of whether or not they stay together)
  2. the fact he's married - well we all know he's an arse!!

I'm not defending Roy but I think his declarations of love and desperation to be with lizzie were probably more the excitement of the affair rather than being grounded in reality

If Hayley finds out that he was wanting to leave her for liz he can answer that with a 'she turned my head'

It wouldn't be the first time the ow shoulders the blame and the wife blindly accepts it - isn't it much harder to accept your h wilfully and premeditated ly deceived you

Veritata · 20/09/2014 08:45

I felt slightly frustrated by the fact that it was Roy who wanted to see Lizzie, and we never found out what he was going to say. Might it have been that he would have to stay on as he couldn't find an alternative?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 20/09/2014 08:49

Petula Keep a close eye on how the châtelaine of the place behaves towards the staff.

And don't go up on the roof.

Flowers for the bride.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/09/2014 08:53

Yes petula - keep the doyenne away from the groom!

Hope you have lovely weather today given the weird weather system!!

LillianGish · 20/09/2014 09:23

Roy is an idiot - he could have said no when Elizabeth initially made a drunken pass. I don't think he did it because he felt obliged to say yes because she was his boss. He could have passed it off as a one night stand in the heat of the moment (which is what he's said to Hayley) - Elizabeth would have been happy to do that - again I don't think she put any pressure on him as his boss. He was the one making ridiculous declarations of love and trying to be a father to her children. He is the author of his own misfortune - Elizabeth gave him every opportunity to put it behind him - he was the one who refused to do so. It's not the case that Elizabeth was really up for it and then suddenly dropped him - after the initial drunken pass she was very hesitant. I don't particularly like Elizabeth, she is entirely self-centred, always has been (babied youngest child with a heart defect) but I think in this situation she made a mistake - out of her widow's loneliness - which she would have liked to put behind her, but Roy wouldn't let it lie.

ppeatfruit · 20/09/2014 13:53

I'm trying to work out how many people are actually on the pay roll in LL.; Because quite a few of the employment rules don't apply to a small business do they? -

Roy

Hayley

The groundsman Titcombe

P.Time Bert Fry

Lewis ????(Is he paid)? Where is he?

If that's all then it would be classed as small. Anyone else?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/09/2014 13:56

There must be people serving in the cafe and working at the entrance gate and some sort of supervision on the forest walk. She must employ people to look after any animals and crops (the wine) as I can't imagine she would get her hands dirty. Cleaners, gardeners etc

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 20/09/2014 14:01

My disparate thoughts on the thread so far.
Stealth: the folk who lived near the M6 - some of them had bought their
house before the Mway was even built, love em.

Not sure what Roy and Lizzie are going to do

Has Amex been cancelled???? Say it's not so.

I think Adam loves Charlie. Ian is too plump to go surfing isn't he?!?

what DID happen when Jill and David had the accident?

Do we think Leonie is a MNer?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/09/2014 14:02

I think Bert Fry is a volunteer guide. I have never understood why anyone would give up their time to support super-wealthy people who happen to own a stately home, but I suppose if this does happen in RL people think of it as a bit like volunteering for the National Trust.

Mrs Pugsley as was, who is now Mrs Titcombe. Have the Titcombes retired and left, or did I imagine that? (entirely possible)

She might have a contract with a cleaning company in which case the cleaners wouldn't count as LL employees. The Orangery staff definitely were LL staff a few years back when Kathy, Emma, Owen and Tracy Horrobin were all employed there, IIRC.

Jessica the falconer - self-employed or employee?

Reg the rare breeds man.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/09/2014 14:04

Hi, Olivia! We know Leonie is a MNer.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 20/09/2014 14:05

Did Elizabeth even ask Eileen Titcombe(?) if she'd like to be upcycled to manager???

Grin
AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/09/2014 14:06

Eileen, that's it! Titcombe turned out to be Edgar, I did remember that.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 20/09/2014 14:10

X'ed a million people. But they certainly have enough staff to need constant reference to a rota...

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/09/2014 14:11

Zero - Grin

ppeatfruit · 20/09/2014 14:11

No AllMimsy I think Lizard referred to Titcombe getting upset about the grass after Bloxfest or maybe before but it was quite recently. Oh yes I remember Kathy and the others working there too.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 20/09/2014 14:14

Pip did some chambermaiding too.

ppeatfruit · 20/09/2014 14:26

Oh yes I remember Peep doing that too Olivia But it's not a hotel is it?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 20/09/2014 14:33

I always thought they had rooms for wedding guests but not a hotel per se

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 20/09/2014 14:36

LL?
I thought it was?
confused.com

R4 · 20/09/2014 14:39

Talking of whom ... where is Peep? She should have been back from Yorkshire by now, in time to have a bit of R&R before enrolling back at Borchester Uni next week.Confused

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/09/2014 15:17

Peep will be so exhausted by all her R&R that she will be unable to speak or I will lay siege to the Mailbox.

confused.com, LL is definitely not a hotel! It's a stately home with tours and attractions in the grounds. However, it also has conference facilities. Nigel and Elizabeth used to have an arrangement with Grey Gables which always seemed a bit of a bodge to me - all the conference and wedding guests had to travel over to GG instead of being able to stroll across the courtyard or stagger up the stairs at the end of their events. Why not just hold the whole thing at GG instead?

The LL courtyard accommodation was built recently to try to get round that problem.

Yet another reason why we should be hearing about problems at GG.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 20/09/2014 15:39

Which reminds me that they still have not utilised the conflicting Team Will / Team Ed loyalties of Caroline and Oliver.

We've already said that Oliver is the obvious person to help Ed out now; it occurs to me that when the smart folk retire or shuffle they could leave GG to someone rather than simply selling up.

It further occurs to me that what GG probably needs is the tender attention of the lovely deputy upcycler Ms Emma ... Carter/Grundy/Carter and her even more lovely partner Ed. The only fly in the intment of this beautiful plan is the possible objection of Godmother-to-the-evil-brother....
