How about we immortalise Schrodinger's Baby in the opening paragraph?

How long will this thread last DadDadDad?

Did I read somewhere that for unfair dismissal under these circs Roy could get something like £75,000?

nauticant · 19/09/2014 19:20

In a serious out of order sacking I'd be going for 2 years salary.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 19/09/2014 19:20

BYOS, Roy bearded Lizzie in her den & she said not to worry, he doesn't have to work his notice as Geraldine has been appointed manager, so he can just take the pay owing to him & will have no trouble finding another job

WTAF???

PetulaGordino · 19/09/2014 19:21

I meant messy as in disputes with BL etc, rather than raw sewage. I expect the sandy waste product isn't actually that yucky as it will be heavily processed

Yes I'm struggling with Elizabeth being so daft re employment law, but maybe Nigel and then Roy handled all that?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/09/2014 19:21

Oh so she didn't like his claim for compensation and ha threatened To tell Hayley?

Simple answer for Roy 'she's saying it to stop me making a claim'

I so hope she is forced to pay and gets some bad publicity to boot. At least Hayley will then get something out of it

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/09/2014 19:22

Xpost

Lizzie seems to be forgetting how to be a decent human being. Talk about landed gentry screwing over the workers

PetulaGordino · 19/09/2014 19:23

She seems to have convinced herself he's resigned when he hasn't

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 19/09/2014 19:25

No.... He didn't directly ask for compensation. Just spluttered a bit and pointed out that he wasn't a Downton Abbey maid, upduffed and bought off.

I wonder which of them will arrive at a solicitor's office first.........Grin

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 19/09/2014 19:27

she didn't threaten to tell Hayley in as many words; she said she now has to fight to regain the respect of her children but that he still has that (& his family)

but you'd think she'd have had the sense to send him on his way with at least 3 months salary to tide him over, not just what's owed him!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/09/2014 19:31

Ok. Well she is stupid! She sacked him so even under normal circumstances she would have to pay notice?

What does Roy have to lose? Hayley knows and it's only a matter of time before Freddie blabs. A nice employment law storyline!!

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 19/09/2014 19:36

Hayley knows some of it but there's a lot which Roy would prefer that she doesn't know...

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/09/2014 19:39

But there's nothing anyone but lizzie can say that would be bad for him.

And what she says can be discounted as the bitter rambling a of someone trying to get out of paying comp. Roy could really paint himself as the victim here!

OddFodd · 19/09/2014 19:47

At times I've forgotten what a loathsome human being Elizabeth is but not right now

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/09/2014 19:57

Wow. Just listened. She really is a deluded, selfish, loathsome person. I hope she gets screwed for every penny!! Bit late to be trying to keep things professional. She talks like Roy is only interested in the best interests of LL. she does offer an ex gratia payment though.

Do you think Charlie wears khaki chinos , blue cuff link shirts and boat shoes?

More cake with tea from mother to son!!!

I hope fallon never gives relationship advice - she only seems to communicate by text

Roy isn't terribly good at lying though.

& we don't know yet what conversations Freddie might have overheard. From the way he was talking I think he knows more than he's actually said.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/09/2014 20:35

I guess we will see.

Lizzie didn't make clear of she was going to pay his notice or not. i assume so!

PetulaGordino · 19/09/2014 20:35

Grin araminta

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 19/09/2014 22:09

GrinAraminta Apart from the odd episode caught in other people's houses I follow EastEnders, Corrie (and sometimes even the other one) entirely through the Guardian's online TV pages and whatever's on the front of magazines.....

(You do know you can catch up with the entire Archers week on Sunday morning - or anytime on iplayer?)

Veritata · 19/09/2014 23:06

I wonder which of them will arrive at a solicitor's office first.

With any luck it'll be Hayley, and she'll be told she hasn't got a leg to stand on so she'd better either reinstate Roy or throw lots of money at him.

Veritata · 19/09/2014 23:06

Sorry, meant Lizzie there, half asleep here.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/09/2014 23:33

Can't say I have much faith in then going down the legal route after the way they handled the Kathy storyline

Bluestocking · 19/09/2014 23:43

Well, well. Will Roy engage the services of all-purpose Usha? I hope he goes all out with a kick-ass lawyer from Borchester and sues Lizzie for everything she's got.

ErrolTheDragon · 20/09/2014 00:10

Roy surely can't use Usha - in his mis-spent youth he was involved in some sort of racist incident against her - I've forgotten exactly when and what. Not sure if Hayley was around at the time, I suppose she might contact Usha which could be awkward.... Lizzie might use Usha (though she has good reasons to dislike Shula she's one of Ruth's best friends) - been a long time since we heard from her which is a shame, one of the better women characters so I hope she's involved somehow!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 20/09/2014 00:16

Even the other part of the story is rubbish. No way would anyone in Elizabeth's position ever hire someone for such an important job simply because they're there anyway. She would surely be up to date on who's doing what where and who looked like a contender for "best stately home manager in the country this year". When she hired Roy she already knew how well he had worked at GG for years before she borrowed him. Geraldine knows nothing about the culture and ethos(!) of LL. It's outrageous.

And surely, even if they didn't have an official deputy manager before, there must be someone on the staff who was second-in-command and might have been hoping for promotion?
