Yes, I interpreted it as Joe passing on the drink money he received from David. 'Specially since he specifically said he hadn't had to put his hand in his pocket all evening in the Bull.

well i just got DRENCHED to the skin in a random hour-long storm that has flooded the high street in my village. it'll go down in the next few hours but it was very sudden
