I also thought vicky was keen to go back to work which would be easier in brum?

ppeatfruit · 02/09/2014 13:22

Thanks for the linkTheone and Tmrgi What does "When matters came to a head" mean though? Do we assume that JT and JD were DTD?? or not?

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/09/2014 13:26

God, last night's was dull. I wonder what will happen to Heather - surely there's only room for one twinkly granny at Brookfield?

I suspect they do this intermiittent dullness so that when they get hoiked into Feedback, someone can say 'well, the Rob and Hellin storyline is a slow-burning one, and yes, we do have some more 'sensational' stories going on at the moment - but listeners might recall the discussion David and Jill had whilst birthing all those cows, for example, and I think we are keeping a very strong focus on Ambridge as a farming community there', in answe to the charge that they've turned into Holly-Bridge and Mrs Boring from Sollihull in the west Midlands now turns her radio off in outrage whenever the Archers comes on. etc.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 02/09/2014 13:28

I'd forgotten that bit, BYOS - yes, she'd go back to work & mike would retire to become SAHD. I suppose she could commute from Ambridge but I can understand why she'd rather not.

ppeat, I think for that inf we do need someone who actually remembers (google can only help so far...)

ppeatfruit · 02/09/2014 13:37

TheOriginal TA is\was called An Everyday story of Country Folk so it certainly shouldn't be sensationalist every day at all, that's what EE and Corrie are like now for some stupid reason because we've all got such a short attention span nowadays and you might call me Mrs boring but I don't get the attractiveness of all the sex and violence !! Grin

squeaver · 02/09/2014 13:37

Thanks for the link.

I was confused because when they got the news of his death Jenny was so over the top with wanting to help with the funeral etc. Then, when she got the letter, it was all "oh Brian, what will people think??"

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/09/2014 13:40

Ppeat absolutely re. everyday story thing, and yes, it would lose something if it went all corrie-fied. I don't think that's Mrs Boring (god knows I've listened to it for years and if I craved high drama I'd have given up ages ago!). I did find the cow stuff excessively dull and contrived though, and I have a sick fascination with the Rob-and-Hellin stuff Grin

The people who ring feedback seem more extreme though - hankering for the days when Phil's dissatisfaction with some marmalade could fill a whole 13 minutes....

The marmalade wars were exciting!

One never knew if Jill might stick a paring knife into Heather.

I do wonder which way they'll jump with her current invalidity. Either Ruth will have to stay in Northumberland - cue Brookside disaster, or poor Heather will be dragged to Ambridge for Jill to lord it over her. Unless they decide to send Pip to look after her DGM - that would be good.

PetulaGordino · 02/09/2014 13:52

please please let ruth stay off air in northumberland

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/09/2014 13:54

I'd say cosy rather than exciting! Grin. Phil's voice was so reassuring.

Suspect Heather most likely to die off-set. And Ruth might either feel that in the grand scheme of things, she doesn't give a fuck about the new road, or that now she must fight even harder. Either way it feels like a plot line that will fizzle out without too much fuss!

WipsGlitter · 02/09/2014 13:57

Maybe the actress needed some time off!!

But yes, room for only one granny at Brookfield. Could be an interesting story, "well we've taken your mother in why not mine?" Very mumsnet!

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/09/2014 14:02

If Heather has had an Archers-Stroke, she'll be better in no time and she and Jill can be the comic relief, having slightly spiky but ultimately inconsequential debates and tiffs in Brookfield's kitchen about what a True Cottage Pie should include.
'Hullo, Ruth, I've blacked the stove, re-grouted the bathroom, replaced the loose tile on the roof and folded the washing, dear'
'Eee, ello Ruth-pet, I feel reet lazy! All's I've done is make a cottage pie, a baked alaska and a beef wellington - ooo and I've re-stocked the freezer with casseroles for t'winter. David's mam puts me to shame!'

ppeatfruit · 02/09/2014 14:08

TheOriginal I hope Heather's baked Alaska freezes correctly and that the Brookfield freezer situation doesn't match the one in the GBBO tent. ( oh dear I'm getting a bit media obsessed aren't I?) I'll go Blush

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 02/09/2014 14:19

GrinBrilliant TOSN.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 02/09/2014 14:21

Ppeat I am sure that if Jill did move Heather's ice cream, it was a for a maximum of 40 seconds. Twitter would be on FIRE with that one!

ppeatfruit · 02/09/2014 14:26

Oh yes fisticuffs at Brookfield between the grannies, grannygate Grin

ppeatfruit · 02/09/2014 14:28

I hope she said sorry !!!!!

RocknRollNerd · 02/09/2014 14:38

The Ruth/Heather storyline could be done very well in terms of dealing with ageing parents at the other end of the country which is more and more of a reality these days. More likely I suspect is they're going to either create Granny/Marmalade wars of it will transpire Heather is a secret tippler and keeps falling down plastered (cf various articles from time to time about how the biggest age group for problem drinking is now pensioners or something...).

The irritating thing nowadays is they have created the 'exciting' plots (like Jess, Locketfest etc) and then they just drop them and do days of 'everyday story of country folk' it's actually really beginning to piss me off as I feel like I'm being 'played' by the SWs - they do a cliff hanger to ensure we all tune in the next day and then flick v signs at us over birthing ropes.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/09/2014 15:23

Totally agree rocknroll

I find it a little depressing that all the granny's are competing on cooking/housework/knitting/caring.

Is this all we have to look forward to in our old age as women?

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 02/09/2014 16:55

ThreeYorkshires (surely one is enough Shock Wink) the linked piece was written before Siobhan died - 2006?
Pieces like that don't get updated, we're lucky it's still there!

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 02/09/2014 19:12

Do you think Mowgli is possibly the most P of PFB? I mean, no mixed fibres Hmm
And "a selection of our son's favourite music". He's 2 weeks old ffs.

unitarian · 02/09/2014 19:13

Montezuma!

Selks · 02/09/2014 19:15

I love Montezuma!! At least it could be shortened to Monty Grin

Leonie and James are going to be awesomely hideous parents he he

BasketzatDawn · 02/09/2014 19:15

The photos at the naming ceremony will look grand. James complete with Leonie's thumb print on his forehead. Grin

I love the 'mundanity threads'. As long as they don't cop out of the RoyHayley crisis.
