New thread for hopefully an exciting Sunday episode. Poor Hayley.

OP posts:

Shallishanti, we wouldn't necessarily have heard either way re the locket. That seems to be the new scriptwriting style - leave us on a cliffhanger, then remain totally silent about what it actually was in the next episode and leave us to speculate. Witness the whole business with Jess.

WipsGlitter · 01/09/2014 14:03

I agree princess it would have been the first thing I'd have been asking when DP walked in the door.

trevortrevorslattery · 01/09/2014 14:37

Ooh wips that would be brilliant. Or if Roy arrives (late) to the restaurant and finds Hayley has left the locket on his plate.

I'm hoping she hasn't asked him about it because she's biding her time to get her finances etc in order, and then kick him straight out with no warning.

Swannykazoo · 01/09/2014 14:51

I'm amazed we've not heard Lynda wax lyrical on how amazing Leoni's breastfeeding is (or that formula can be just as good)
Off to see if I can find that bit of Dead Ringers as the PIL can talk through 6:30 to 7:14 when there's something good on the radio but will be stony silent otherwise

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/09/2014 14:58

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p025lps3 Dead Ringers here!

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/09/2014 15:44

Love the suggestions that Hayley could wear the locket as part of her 'dressing up' outfit, or leave it on Roy's plate if he's a no show!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 01/09/2014 17:44

Just heard dead ringers

Is it a pisstake of the clunky writing?

harrietspy · 01/09/2014 18:45

Maybe, but more a pisstake of Helen's wilful blindness, I think, snowman.

Swannykazoo · 01/09/2014 19:21

Inspired Dead Ringers!

ColdTeaAgain · 01/09/2014 19:43

New thread! Grin

Am not happy about still being in the dark about what Jess was calling about.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/09/2014 20:02

I agree about the control...

I don't quite agree that Rob is social climbing or trying to move Helen into a different social circle. He's apparently quite at ease in "society" (quite at home exchanging anecdotes with Adam about their respective boarding schools for instance.) But he is clearly interested in embedding himself in Ambridge. As regards Helen she's lived amongst the huntin,' shootin,' fishin' set all her life; (she doesn't need an invitation to drop in on Caroline and Oliver, her uncle runs the shoot....) But she's made a conscious decision to broaden her horizons beyond all that. And the infuriating thing is that Rob's urge to control is such that, had she initiated a conversation about wanting to hunt again, he would probably have produced a thousand reasons why she should do no such thing.

ColdTeaAgain · 01/09/2014 20:19

Yeah I agree. What I meant by different social circles is more the fact that he wants to take greater control over who she is friendly with. Not so much as a social climbing exercise but more to ensure she only mixes with people who aren't any sort of threat to his authority and fit in with his associates. Kirsty, for example, was far too feisty and opinionated for his liking.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/09/2014 20:23

True...

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 01/09/2014 21:02

That was a bit of a nothing episode

ColdTeaAgain · 01/09/2014 21:12

Indeed. They need to stop this habit of dropping little cliff hangers and then completely ignoring them for a few episodes!

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 01/09/2014 21:29

They seem to have boring episodes where they are setting things up, then a dramatic episode towards the end of the week and then they start again

R4 · 01/09/2014 21:59

I like boring/nothing episodes.

Jill was a bit creepy though. The moment Ruth was off the scene she sort of took on the 'devoted wife' role to her own son. She also seems to be giving Peggoi a run for her money, in that she is suddenly thinking in her old age that she is a wise old business brain.Confused

ColdTeaAgain · 01/09/2014 22:27

I quite like them too R4, don't want too much drama, I listen to TA to relax! Not keen on the 'let's keep them waiting' tactics though, it's gonna have to be good to make the wait worth it!

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 02/09/2014 07:36

I'm back from an absence, marking my place and frantically up-catching...

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 02/09/2014 09:56

I don't like the mix of set up, set up, set up, tiny drama, set up, big drama, back to set up having made no mention of big drama

In the good old days it was much more even and there weren't massive cliff hanger that weren't mentioned the next episode.

To me this is tv writing where you can use silent cues - so maybe Hayley looking at the locket when Roy leaves so you know it's very much on her mind. With radio you are reliant on what they say and their tone and I don't think it always works.

I thought the dead ringers was funny because I do think they have made rob a bit ott with Helen and they have made Helen a bit head in the clouds. I like the storyline but think the writing is clunky

squeaver · 02/09/2014 12:11

I'm a long time lurker on these threads as I tend to dip in and out of Ambridge but Knob & Helen plus Roy & Elizabuff have drawn me in.

I have a question that some of you very well established listeners might be able to answer: this Jenny inheriting money thing - did she have an affair all those years ago? Was it when she was already married to Brian or before?

ppeatfruit · 02/09/2014 12:46

Nice to hear from you Squeaver Grin I can't answer that question and I've listened for a long time but not properly listening IFSWIM. TA is the same age as me actually Blush I'll ask my DM.

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 02/09/2014 12:59

But they must have special schools in Borsetshire?

But how near to Ambridge are would they be? She'd probably have to be bussed to Borchester or Felpersham.

I read Vicky's intention as wanting to move somewhere close to a school for Beth, so that she (V) could be easily involved in the school community. She was a city girl in the first place, wasn't she?

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 02/09/2014 13:06

squeaver I couldn't remember either

But I found \link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/archers/brian_jenny.shtml\this} which spells it all out very neatly (& from the appearance was written long ago so has not been tweaked to fit in with current storylines Wink)
