New thread for hopefully an exciting Sunday episode. Poor Hayley.

OP posts:
harrietspy · 01/09/2014 09:17

The Hayley-Roy situation is so painful. The vindictive part of me hopes that H decides she deserves better and kicks him out, and Elizabeth refuses to have anything to do with him too.

I think the baby will end up as Mo.

I don't think the hunting is about social climbing for knob, personally. I think Knob's testing his strength against Helen's principles and eroding her standing with Henry. Horrible to hear him flexing his controlling muscles like this. (My trouble is I can hear Dead Ringers every time he speaks, now Grin).

stilllearnin · 01/09/2014 09:20

It may be wishful thinking but I think Helen will stand up to Rob even in a tiny way- that would really ruffle him. The Roy and lizzie being in love thing doesn't convince me at all (but I don't really go for falling in love generally!!)

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 01/09/2014 09:53

I wonder if Hayley is waiting to see if Roy notices the locket is missing and tells her it was a surprise for her etc etc

As for Helen, I find her character has always been such that she would probably like to be totally controlled anyway.

However I think this is heading to a DV storyline. She will stand up to him on something and he will hit her. And then it will be a downward spiral from there. I don't think the sw will go as far as him hitting Henry though

I think the ed and Emma positive storyline is leading to mike yelling out of the milk contract and ed having to wind down the business. I'm going to guess the sw have forgotten about oliver

trevortrevorslattery · 01/09/2014 09:54

Poor Hayley Sad. I reckon it will come to a head later this week when Roy stands her up again, on that special night out he was trying to arrange to cover his tracks

LabradorMama · 01/09/2014 10:04

New to this thread after being an infrequent listener for years. I've recently become obsessive about my Sunday catch ups. Marvellous to find so many like minded people who dissect every second of the programme as I do!

And thank the lord that Loxfest is over, I was bloody sick of hearing about it. Now we can get on with the Helen/Rob storyline!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 01/09/2014 10:06

Roy will probably stand Hayley up because he gets a better offer.

Anyway the BBC blog has something new. But don't look if you hate being given a clue about what's to come.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2014 10:07

This thread is fast ! Thanks for it psuedo Just marking my place before I listen again to yesterdays'.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 01/09/2014 10:26

Read the link zero

One of the comments said that mike used to hit Betty - is that true?

PetulaGordino · 01/09/2014 10:27

i saw that too BYOS

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 01/09/2014 10:45

I'm quite sure it's not. There was a period when Mike was suffering from depression and I remember Betty being frightened at one point but I can't remember why - more likely that he was threatening self-harm than violence to Betty or the children, though. He certainly wasn't a wifebeater.

Icimoi · 01/09/2014 11:22

I haven't heard all of Sunday's episode, but did Roy meet Lizzie? And if so did either of them say anything about the locket? She's likely to mention it at some stage,at which point they're both going to realise that Hayley and, probably, Freddie, know about it. They'll presumably try to come up with something to account for it, though Lizzie is going to have trouble explaining why she said it was a key.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2014 11:26

Interesting how conciliatory Roy was sounding now that Hayley knows is not cowtowing to him any more. Maybe she's playing a waiting game deliberately to give him another chance, for the DCs sake.

Notice that Pheobe was mentioned; doesn't she have a bf and or go to festivals?

ref. Liz dealing with teenagers; notice she thinks she was perfect (like a lot of us) and has forgotten her own rebellious youth ,oh she's still living it Grin.

BitOutOfPractice · 01/09/2014 11:37

Just off a plane after a week away...off to catch up...

BabyGoose · 01/09/2014 11:50

I'm finding it harder to control my disappointment that the female characters (the young ones mainly) are just so lacking and a bit wet. Alice for a start. Then Fallon and Lizzie both ending up with men just because these men seem to have shown an interest in them - no other attraction. Kirsty fell once again for Tom, was treated like shit and disappeared in the "shame" of it all. Don't even start me on Helen!

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 01/09/2014 11:52

And poor old Lily is completely forgotten, it seems!

Shallishanti · 01/09/2014 12:05

surely though, wrt to the locket-
either it came in an empty envelope (no note or anything) in which case, very plausible that Roy bought it for Hayley and Elizabeth, knowing this, arranged for it to be returned to him
or, it came with an incriminating note 'darling Roy, so sweet of you to give me this but you know I can never wear it, your loving E'
-in which case the cat wold be out of the bag and we would have heard as much
or, it came with a vague note 'Roy, you forgot this'- innocent explanation still plausible - again, we would have heard if that had been the case.

I really hope the SWs don't wimp out of a long slow burn DV story.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 01/09/2014 12:52

Who lives at blossom hill cottage? That name makes me think of those early learning centre sets

BitOutOfPractice · 01/09/2014 12:59

Why hasn't Hayley mentioned the locket?!

PetulaGordino · 01/09/2014 13:08

rob and helen i think byos

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2014 13:10

Shalli Hayley has totally changed towards Roy there's no question that she knows!

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2014 13:23

BabyGoose There's mutual sexual attraction between RoyLiz IMO and she instigated it and being a hypocrite into the bargain!

Fallon should go for someone steady otherwise she'll end up with a feckless shxx like her father. Grin

JessieMcJessie · 01/09/2014 13:33

ShallIshantI what an excellent find! I LOVE the fact that Lynda insisted on the authentic Kipling-mandated pronounciation whereas Leonie and Lilian are just going with Disney as their lead. I imagine Lynda to have checked such a glossary before reading any Kipling book and to have pronounced all the names very ostentatiously correctly in her head.

Maybe they could call him Louie (as in King) instead. He probably wasn't even in the book!

PrincessFiorimonde · 01/09/2014 13:42

Thanks for the new thread.

Hayley's supposed to be a straightforward sort of person, so you'd think she'd have asked Roy about the locket that very evening. Perhaps, as suggested above, she's worried about where such a challenge would lead. But it does seem a bit out of character for her, IMO. And if she was just mulling it over, Roy's remarkably rude disappearance on Sunday would surely have been the opportunity for her to snap and confront him.

WipsGlitter · 01/09/2014 13:45

I would like Hayley to wear the locket when they get 'dressed up' to go out (seriously, do people actually say that??) and see what Roy's reaction is. I think she won't though.

The Rob/Helen story is well done though, all so subtle.

Icimoi · 01/09/2014 13:46

If Lynda is able to produce chapter and verse to Leonie about the pronunciation she might just change her mind. She was terrifically keen on the fact that he was a character in a classic book, but if he's just a character in a Disney film it all becomes a bit naff.
