Roll up roll up for The Wedding special from Catheter Hall. Is the lark flying high? Will Krusty jam that ring on the porky finger?

"Feedback" summary:

Questions about the Passion Play. Frivolous. Alice taking photos of herself "with Jesus"... Sean O'C says not all listeners are Christians but they still wanted to cover the event. Diverse audience... No concensus.... TA changes to fit the times... The future of the show is in its past... We live in a massively aging population so Peggy represents that. He particularly wanted her as his first big story.

A long time listener says characters changing: Jolene becoming a harridan, Tom more reflective. S O'C says taking her back to her origins as the Lily of Leyton Cross. T and K subsumed by the Event... Listener wants a balance of dull and exciting. S O'C wants it to reflect real life, deal with the issues of the moment balancing fantasy and rural life with modernity.

Archers Addict - EastEndery - is the Ed trying to appeal to younger EE audience? No, different tone and pace but it is a drama not a doc. Presenter mentions Thomas Hardy, Sean agrees, mentions the pheasant.

The Wedding - pressure on main characters, hasn't been a wedding with contentious issues for a very long time. Story of how a boy turns into a man - is Tom worthy to take over Bridge Farm?

"Pick up" S O'C says again going back to the essence of the prog. It is "his" prog. And the best in the UK.

Interesting that he said he's abandoned the premise of everything happening on the same day (ie so everything that happens on Saturday has to be reported). Does that mean we'll still be at the Church tonight?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/04/2014 17:00

That was the bit where I was distracted by a phone call so I couldn't make proper sense of what he said or the conclusion he arrived at.

I'm sure I remember in the past a particularly crucial event, or even conversation, could be spread over two evenings. But as usual I might have imagined it. And I can't see a reason why the clever audience can't adjust to one or the other way as necessary.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 25/04/2014 17:04

Hello you two! He said there again he was going back to the way things used to be, ie not tied to having Wednesday evening's episode showing things that happen on a Wednesday. So I'd guess tonight's episode will pick up where we left off and it will still be Thursday in Ambridge, at least to begin with.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/04/2014 17:06

..... still time for Tom to change his mind?Shock

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 25/04/2014 17:13

Ooh! Thing is, after all of that, I doubt Kirsty would change hers. I hope not, anyway.

RocknRollNerd · 25/04/2014 17:21

Talking of G&T a few posts back did anyone else really wish we could have heard Lil's response when Jennydear -told-- asked her to spend the evening making paper flowers for the decorations. I had visions of them with fag burn holes in them and slightly singed and gin-soaked edges Grin.

I would imagine the recriminations will last longer than this thread! Part of me does wonder if Kirsty is going to be written out during this storyline - I'm sure she's picked up more voiceover/ad work recently on the tv. I do think they've done this whole storyline splendidly though - I had a massive catch up on podcasts the last few days and reading through the threads the way we've been made to change how we feel about Tom has been done really well.

Is tonight going to pick up where they left off (so with the perls skittering down the aisle and an announcement to the congregation/guests...or will we be in real timw with Susan and Jennydear rehashing us a synopsis in the village shop? I really hope the former...

BeeInYourBonnet · 25/04/2014 17:21

I want to listen to it again, but don't think I can bear it!

May have to listen to tonight's episode with a pillow over my head.

Abra1d · 25/04/2014 17:24

Alice taking photos of herself "with Jesus"... Sean O'C says not all listeners are Christians but they still wanted to cover the event.

I thought Alice was unbelievably tacky there.

nauticant · 25/04/2014 17:30

Ha ha at Eddie Mair's coverage of this on PM.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 25/04/2014 17:31

Yes, loved it! Grin

Martorana · 25/04/2014 17:32

Abraid- Alice got married in Las Vegas! I think tacky is her middl name.........

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/04/2014 17:33

Yes! Very funny non-spoilering review. "The sound that came out of the person's mouth..."

WillieWaggledagger · 25/04/2014 17:33

did anyone else really wish we could have heard Lil's response when Jennydear told asked her to spend the evening making paper flowers for the decorations

yes!!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 25/04/2014 17:34

Alice and Chris coming home and breaking the news to Brian and Jennifer - one of my favourite ever episodes. Brian's remark to Jennifer that they must look on this as Alice's starter marriage!

WillieWaggledagger · 25/04/2014 17:35

i agree about the alice thing, but i think that it had to have both reverent and irreverent characters to reflect the different responses to easter

Iwantacampervan · 25/04/2014 17:48

Heard the PM 'discussion' too - very amusing when you knowe what happened.

Ewieindwie1 · 25/04/2014 18:03

Hi all, back in my pew and agog about ramifications. Glad to read others are excited about this thread too. Feel young and vibrant as am not very au fait with technology and this represents A BIG THING in my sad little life.

Do we think Hellin will try to console her best mate? Very tricky..... Am also waiting to hear if Joe made it to lav for about the fifth time...

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 25/04/2014 18:04

Oooo I cannae wait for tonight's! [v sad life]

Ewieindwie1 · 25/04/2014 18:12

Has anyone attended a wedding where this happened? What do the guests do? Can imagine there would be a certain amount of nervous shuffling of feet? And embarrassment too.

Martorana · 25/04/2014 18:21

I have. Well, he decided he couldn't go through with it just before he was due to set off for the church, rather than when he got there.

I told the vicar, who made a short announcement, people shuffled about a bit, some slunk off, some hung around in a rather ghoulish manner, and some went to the pub.

Swannykazoo · 25/04/2014 18:26

Embarrasment followed by someone pointing out that the fizz will have to be paid for if its already poured so they may as well have a glass....inner Grundy

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 25/04/2014 18:28

Bugger - I almost always listen to PM (& I adore Eddie) but I've missed it tonight & they take ages putting it on iplayer Sad

nauticant · 25/04/2014 18:33

It will enhance your Mair-love TheOne.

MrsCampbellBlack · 25/04/2014 18:39

I am so looking forward to 7pm. Pat and Tony will be so disappointed and guilty if Tom starts laying the 'I had to be john-2' on them.

I reckon peggy will be pretty cross at his cowardly ways especially when she told him to do it the night before.
