Will this thread make it to the wedding? Will it outlive Tony?

am I the only one who found this episode deeply depressing rather than humorous???Sad

poor dreaded squirrel! humanely done or otherwise ....
deeply depressed to thnk our countryside is really being managed by such obnoxious business type people and of more development and destruction by mega business.....
and sad that the passion player is so reluctant in convenient plot resolution, where's the enthusiasm, Chris......

guineapiglet · 10/04/2014 14:29

ps. that Annabelle has always been greedy, self interested and two faced

BitOutOfPractice · 10/04/2014 14:39

Crikey the Brine / Squirrel juxtaposition was at best clunky and at worst wanky

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 10/04/2014 14:57

Wasn't it though Grin

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/04/2014 14:57

I loved it all - including the cruelty, duplicity and clunkiness - but it's very hard to put into words exactly why.

I recognize all you both say; perhaps I have limited (not zero) sympathy for squirrels or Brian and it's too late to feel bad about the countryside and big business. One lot of hungry shareholders taking over from another lot.... And if anyone was going to shaft (is that the right word?) Brian I would far rather it was Annabel.

For years and years I stuck with TA when they were doing absolutely nothing other than filling airtime. I'm thrilled that they are now at least trying to entertain their audience.

BitOutOfPractice · 10/04/2014 15:00

Yes but I hope this doesn't mean they are going to try and go all Play For Today on our asses!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 10/04/2014 15:00

That stuff about the AD was done to death years ago - there would have to be lorries trundling through the village 24/7 to bring in all the shit manure

Mind you that was going to be at Home Farm iirc? I wonder where it is now.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/04/2014 15:13

I suppose I feel they've come back to their real audience; not the audience they temporarily decided they ought to have. Hopefully no more criminal conspiracy conflagrations or Extra-nearly-drownings; just people going about their normal day to day lives...

Also it was very clearly played for laughs - and it's great to see the toffs being figures of fun as opposed to the cap doffers.

TCforTopCat · 10/04/2014 17:59

Just thought that some of you may be interested in a new Archers podcast.
I think it will be weekly and it is being done by two of the people I follow on Twitter who tweet about the Archers.
It is called Tum Dee Tum and is on iTunes Grin

nauticant · 10/04/2014 19:14

Now that was a chilling scene.

MikeTheShite · 10/04/2014 19:15

I shuddered at that!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/04/2014 19:15

Oh lord! How long before Helen arrives on the relationship boards?

nauticant · 10/04/2014 19:16

Indeed Mike. I stopped what I was doing and listened holding my breath.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 10/04/2014 19:22

Yes, beautifully done, I thought. The download on the BBC TA website recommended above (thank you to the recommenders!) was interesting about the relationship between Helen and Rob. The actors said that some relationships which appear to outsiders to be very unhealthy work for the parties concerned and last a long time, so we shouldn't jump to conclusions that this will all end up badly.

Glebe Cottage - for 50 years plus this has belonged to the Archer family. Doris inherited it from Lady Lawson-Hope as a reward for her years in service, she left it to Shula and Shula sold it to Phil and Jill when she and Alistair bought The Stables. So will it now remain in the hands of a blood Archer? Too expensive for Alice and Chris, I'd have thought, unless Brian helps out. Might Debbie buy it as a UK base?

GypsyFloss · 10/04/2014 19:41

Sometimes I think Helen stands up to him and then she seems to just roll over. It's a very symbiotic dysfunctional relationship that one.

Kirsty is sounding more and more like a vacuous airhead which is not just so not like her. I am ever more hopeful of that big fire at Catheridge Hall.

GreenShadow · 10/04/2014 19:54

TCforTopCat -yes, I also follow Roifield on Twitter and had listened to their new podcast.

It doesn't have to be accessed via iTunes (for those like me who avoid it) but also be heard here

TCforTopCat · 10/04/2014 20:03

Thank you Green Shadow, felt certain that other people here would be much more technically aware than I Smile

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/04/2014 20:18

Mimsy What about Pip? Since her parents don't want to lose the Rickyard cottage rent? I daresay Jill would be delighted to let it to her. Thought of Dan but he may not be home enough to need his own place.

Oooh I love it when they all jump on the merry-go-round. As you said upthread we still don't know what Hazel will do with Jack's property. And who's to say Leonie might not decide she needs a quieter life once little Rupie arrives?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 10/04/2014 21:40

James, Leonie and baby in Glebe would be just wonderful, Zero! What do we think that baby will be called? I don't spend enough time on the Baby Names threads here to have any idea, and my two are grown up now, so I feel out of touch with baby-naming trends.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/04/2014 22:17

I'm actually hoping for a girl so Lillian can take her for baby beauty treatments - but I couldn't think of a nickname for Annunciata....

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2014 22:23

Rob's comments about Annabel... he's projecting his problem with women; for all his faults I don't think Brian has any problem with being ousted by a woman more than a man. Ooohh... I do hope Annabel finds fault with Rob's running of the dairy and shows him who's boss.

'I'm selfish...because I love you' ...no, you're selfish because you're selfish you possessive git. I reckon he's even jealous of the flipping cheese.... any bets he'll try to convince Helen that she should give it up?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 10/04/2014 22:43

Nancy for Annunciata Grin

(I'm fairly sure that was a character in a Margaret Drabble novel)

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 10/04/2014 22:44

\link{http://www.theguardian.com/books/2011/dec/02/jerusalem-golden-margaret-drabble\Jerusalem the Golden} - a very good read

Minimammoth · 10/04/2014 22:59

Perraps Rob might seduce Annabel.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/04/2014 23:09

I think she's probably a bit old for him - and not at all his type, hardly likely to fall for his EA shit.
