Just don't be so careless with your watch Helen

Not if you think that first cousins used to marry quite a lot and still do in some cultures AllMimsy Grin

boobashka · 10/03/2014 13:16

YY Redcliff - I too thought Hell sounded a bit scared when she left the phone message for Titchy Knob.

Icimoi · 10/03/2014 13:36

David in mortal combat with a cheese and pickle sandwich.

Rival nomination for thread title.

Surely Fallon is destined for PC Gorgeous? They've gone to all that trouble to give him a contract for a speaking part, they must be planning to make more use of him.

WillieWaggledagger · 10/03/2014 13:38

not sure why she needed to leave a voicemail, surely if you live together you just tell someone something so non-urgent in the evening. but of course it meant they could have helen telling him without us hearing his reaction or paying for him to appear in the episode

Voicemail messages/one-sided phonecalls are just a device surely?

I remember hearing Brine dictate a job advert over the phone once that he clearly would have just emailed in real life.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/03/2014 14:34

Voicemail messages/one-sided phonecalls are just a device surely?
Yes - a two-fold device for suspense and for not needing the other actor for that episode.

I like Ruth. She does a proper, tough job and is (as said upthread) an exemplar of 'good enough' mum.

I think T&K should listen to Neil's advice re self-build. If they were on good terms with P&T at the moment, they should build a cottage-size dwelling suitable as a starter home, and then when they start a family swap with P&T. That would surely be more cost-effective than buying a house and having to commute.

OddFodd · 10/03/2014 14:44

Am I the only person who didn't realise that Rob arrived last January? I honestly thought he'd turned up in late Spring Blush

RhinestoneCowgirl · 10/03/2014 14:50

I thought that about the self-build Errol, T&K did seem to be trying to convince themselves that they'd really love to live in a cul-de-sac miles away from Ambridge.

Disclaimer - I currently live in a 1970s cul-de-sac and would love to build my own eco-house Grin

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 10/03/2014 15:42

Another one roaring at Compo's barber's floor Grin

(& at ppeat's inventive new version of Compo's name. I suspect autocorrect had a hand in that?)

What a treat to have found this thread!

I have no-one to talk it IRL about my new found Archers obsession!

I'm v controlled though, I somehow save myself for the Sunday omnibus and luxuriate in it with a glass or 2 of wine.

Plot prediction:
Rob the Knob will try to kill Helen

VestaCurry · 10/03/2014 16:03

Just realised I can only read this once a week!

RocknRollNerd · 10/03/2014 16:28

Welcome Vesta, you'll have a lovely long read if you just drop in once a week - after years of bits and bobs of Archers chat finally the stars have aligned and we've got ourselves a proper thread and community going!

After Tom's comments about 'good old gran' I'm pretty certain the whole farcical decision to buy their own place is very much linked to the whole Peggy, Tony, inheritance thing. He's bleeding her dry before she's stopped breathing and I'm not entirely convinced there's that much cash there in anycase. Another delicious possibility is that Peggy is going to fork over savings to fund the love-nest and then when she needs residential care Tom is going to find himself under a lot of pressure to hand back the cash...

Presumably PC Plot will only appear sporadically as he's got other demands on his time in real life

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 10/03/2014 16:32

Welcome, Vesta! Now you are hooked you will find that once a week is not enough, either to listen or to post here. Grin

I don't think anybody's predicted yet that Rob will kill Helen. There's never been a murder in TA - not properly. There was manslaughter back in the 50s and a few dodgy incidents since, but murder would be a new one. I'd vote for it!

cheminotte · 10/03/2014 16:38

Can I vote for Helen to murder Rob please?

Welcome Vesta
.

stilllearnin · 10/03/2014 16:59

Yes but John AND Helen? Not sure...rocknroll, that is truly disgusting. why would you have the urge to break soneone's eye socket?!

Anyone know when we are having our HellRob and Ian and Adam moment? You see realising someone you're smitten with is homophobic/racist etc is plausible. That's happened to me. Suddenly the veil is lifted and there is no going back. Luckily I hadn't flaming moved my 3 year old in with him!

ErrolTheDragon · 10/03/2014 17:21

ShockR&R - not the most felicitous piece of casting, all the Ambridge females going weak at the knees over someone who's been done for GBH. Doing TA is probably a good way of getting some work while keeping a fairly low profile.

WillieWaggledagger · 10/03/2014 17:28

ooh pc burns' dad wrote little voice

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 10/03/2014 17:28

Oh dear, cross-post there. That's not good. I will hear him differently now. Sad

WillieWaggledagger · 10/03/2014 17:32

yes that is a particularly horrible conviction

OddFodd · 10/03/2014 17:48

God that's horrible and it makes me feel a bit queasy thinking of him playing the village heartthrob.

It's like Alan Davies. I can't watch QI any more without thinking of him biting a homeless man on the ear :(

Welcome Vesta. Indulge your secret passion with us. We won't tell Wink

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 10/03/2014 18:01

OMG is that actually him? How dreadful!

Vesta - you will have to rid yourself of the desire for soap-sensation. It never works in Ambridge. They don't really go in for deliberate murder - in the old days a landowner might scatter a little shot in the direction of a peasant but I think even that is frowned upon nowadays. And, as others have said, you will very soon find yourself altering the pattern of your life. Once a week is never enough...

VestaCurry · 10/03/2014 18:20

Thanks for the warm welcome Smile.

My other though about RobHell is that Henry will have some kind of nasty fall or similar, because they are too wrapped up in each other. There's already a sense of Henry not being kept an eye on by Helen as much as she would normally now she has moved in with Rob. This will then get 'minimised' by RobHell as just one of those things that happens to toddlers. I'm also picking up signals that Rob is someone who expects to 'come first', even beyond a small child, and this will become more and more apparent. He's only showing interest in Henry because he knows it's one of the ways to draw Helen in completely.

It's all been too creepy right from the beginning and has me gripped!

David and his soup orgasm was hilarious, topped off by the cheese & pickle sarnie snuffling - great stuff!

VestaCurry · 10/03/2014 18:24

Lol Zero, I know I'm going beyond the pale with some of my thoughts Grin.

I confess I have listened to a couple of Monday episodes when the suspense was killing me Blush.

stilllearnin · 10/03/2014 18:36

(sharp intake of breath!) vesta - it's a slippery slope from the odd sneaky Monday. Next you'll be planning your journeys around it so you can listen to it in the car!
