Just don't be so careless with your watch Helen

All of that is me guessing, I have no idea of her age/career trajectory!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/02/2014 18:01

Hmm... I bought my first laptop 20 years ago (and I wasn't an early adopter.) So - I think your calculations may be skewiff; they're much younger than me, (30's, maybe up to 40?) Probably grew up with them, would certainly have had them all through studenthood...

Interesting point though.

I don't think we should be fooled into thinking Jess has had decades of working life and I didn't get the impression she had achieved any seniority.

Helpyourself · 25/02/2014 18:02

Aha the laptop... I must have subconsciously been mulling on that as only yesterday I was remembering how I had to inform work for insurance purposes when taking my laptop home in 1991.

WillieWaggledagger · 25/02/2014 18:06

my dad had a laptop 20 years ago when i was small, but i don't think people would necessarily have had them as students until more recently, though it probably depends on university/demographic/subject area - i started university in 2004 and quite a few people brought desktop PCs with them into halls, a few laptops, many just used the university computer banks.

that said rob could well have had a laptop, i didn't think about that as an odd thing when he said it i have to admit. but i would just put any discrepancies down to him being Well Dodge anyway

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/02/2014 18:15

And the website doesn't give ages for either of them so we're entirely at liberty to speculate.

LillianGish · 25/02/2014 18:17

As events unfold I feel more and more that Tom's reliance on Peggy's inheritance is going to come to nothing. Wedding costs are spiralling out of control, he's planning to take on a mortgage now he's got nowhere to put his weaners which I feel sure is about to have some financial consequence? He's riding for a fall and no mistake! Looking forward to Rob losing his temper - unfortunately Hellin seems to be deaf and blind to all the warning signs so no doubt she'll make excuses for him however outrageous his behaviour.

mothermirth · 25/02/2014 18:19

It just struck me as odd. Thank you for joining me in my suspicious speculations. He's a bad 'un, that's for sure.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 25/02/2014 18:39

I think Rob'n'Jess are late 30s at most because none of the references to whether they might have children or not included mention of Jess's declining fertility, increased risk of problems etc etc as you might reasonably expect if they were over 40. They're a very similar age because we were explicitly told they got together in their teens.

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2014 18:56

Whenever Tom is talking about his little piggies I see the word as 'weiners' ... this is what comes of being a sausage dog owner.Grin

PseudoBadger · 25/02/2014 19:00

'Rob loses his rag' - either this will be good, or he's literally going to lose a rag #archersletdown

harrietspy · 25/02/2014 19:02

Ooh The Archers have tweeted that Rob loses his temper TONIGHT.

PseudoBadger · 25/02/2014 19:03

Oh and I've finally caught up with the last few days. My thoughts are that HellRob has told HellQueen exactly what he's like. She's just not listening.

OP posts:
ComposHat · 25/02/2014 19:06

I like it that it's Rooth who's so delighted to have Jill running the house
I bet she does, having an elderly maid of all work to skivvy for her and Daveed.

Halsall · 25/02/2014 19:06

Arf @ Pseudo Grin

halfwildlingwoman · 25/02/2014 19:06

Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my god. I have found my spiritual home! How did I not know that you lot talked about the Archers. DP is useless as he pretends he doesn't care but actually knows rather a lot.

So, (settles in even though I am supposed to be putting children to bed) I thought, right from when he first arrived that Rob was a peado, and pursuing Hellin to get to Henry. But then I decided that was too dark for TA and I think this EA storyline is MUCH better. Did anyone else notice that he made her change into a different outfit for the fancy Michelin date? And she was apologising for something that we didn't hear - wearing the wrong thing?

And, I am getting married on the same day as Tom! With the exact opposite amount of fuss though.

ComposHat · 25/02/2014 19:10

Aggggghhh Prof Jim has just issued a common historical falsehood. Women's war work DID NOT get them the vote. I thought a learned man like him would have known better.

GypsyFloss · 25/02/2014 19:11

Hurrah Kirsty is downgrading, good move.

HumphreyCobbler · 25/02/2014 19:15

oooh

halfwildlingwoman · 25/02/2014 19:15

The writers have read this!

HumphreyCobbler · 25/02/2014 19:15

he can't stand living with a toddler another second? I know how he feels

Halsall · 25/02/2014 19:15

O. M. G.

!!!!!!!

Shock
ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2014 19:17

Nice to hear Alan and Jim - the vicar and the 'militant atheist' happily discussing the passion play etc.

And pleased by Kirsty's views on the wedding.

As to Rob.... what does that phone call portend?

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 25/02/2014 19:17

Call that losing his rag! I now realise my children were subjected to serious emotional abuse when they were little. Rob's slightly raised voice was as nothing to a few occasions on this house when the little monsters darlings were being a bit boisterous, especially when flatpack furniture was involved.

Worth hanging on for, though, to hear that steely note in his voicemail message.

florencedombey · 25/02/2014 19:18

That line about the ladder was nicked from this very thread!

lljkk · 25/02/2014 19:18

now wait wait... maybe he's just phoning her up to tick her off for lying to Helen about them sleeping together.

Did the SWs commit a howler the other night? Twice Tom & Tony they referred to the new beef herd as "cows". I thought cows were what you got milk from & cattle are beef animals; proper farmers never mix the terms... do they?
