I think they're being spare with details on Jess because they want to keep us guessing.

Did anyone believe Rob's explanation about Jess - it was pretty much what I expected him to come out with.

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2014 15:48

Yes gunineapiglet you're right Errol it was extremely weird and I said upthread that I reckon it was set up by Rob because of the way Jess said "i'm the idiot aren't I?" as if Rob had invited her. She didn't explain anywhere near enough either as if she wants Hell to still continue believing in Rob which of course ATM she does.

The relationship between HelRob has been lacking in concrete details from the start. Esp. about Jess's place in it. Hell is clearly living in CCL .Grin

The eyes of lurv eh?

BitOutOfPractice · 24/02/2014 16:13

Oh Rob really did turn the tables didn't he with that explanation - made Hellin feel bad for doubting him. Classic gaslighting. And he threw in a refernce to Greg to relly put the boot in. He is vile. I hope they keep him in for AGES!

There is tremendous scope to factor in the Jess as a Social Worker aspect as well if they really do go for the long term playing out of the DV storyline. If she realises that Rob is abusing Helen then surely she would have to act to protect Henry - which then opens up the whole 'she's abusing her power as a social worker, she's just my bitter ex aspect'. Truly this could run and run if they let it.

Another long burn could be the financial woes of Tom and Kirsty - they are going the right way to have massive amounts of debt from this wedding and the house (and yy to whoever it was said that Peggy might not actually have squillions to leave Tom when she finally slithers off this mortal coil). At the moment though I just can't get past them still fannying around not having invites, venue, clothes etc for an APRIL WEDDING!!!! Don't you need to sort this kind of stuff out at least a few months before the wedding?

HumphreyCobbler · 24/02/2014 18:06

Too right RocknRoll

"Tony's inferiority complex, Jennifer's snobbishness, Peggy's harsh and unforgiving attitude to Tony, Hellin and Tom's hectoring of their parents have always been there in the background. But now they are firmly front and centre. I wonder if they are setting them up as the counterpoint to the more settled and functional Brookfield Archers." That is very interesting ComposHat.

was it Peggy that wouldn't tolerate the female vicar?

ComposHat · 24/02/2014 18:10

Yes she did. She was a bit sniffy about Usha too when she moved to ambridge - who had the sheer nerve to be both a woman and not white.

justiceofthePeas · 24/02/2014 18:34

Jess was saying she was an idiot because she turned up to surprise him on valentine's day thinking that things were back on a better footing after him visiting her in her bed.

hellin seems to have conveniently forgotten that Jess said they slept together.

and j looks like she has given up for the time being having realise that Rob moved Hel in the second she moved out.
Did she not imply he had form for playing away (would be typical EA)

did J not as good as say he was away on Valentine day because he was at it? But H has plenty of form for being eyes wide shut in the past.

Rob will have to start making moves to keep H away from Kirsty soon.

And yy peggoi is an old bag. having her fun over the will while she is still alive and acting all butter wpuldn't melt. she did not as she said tell them so that no one would be surprised ahead told them so she could get to see them being upset.

Panzee · 24/02/2014 18:43

Yy to getting a wedding ready for April! Particularly a 3-ring circus one that this is turning into. I was planning a christening for April and wondering if I've left it too late.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2014 19:06

hellin seems to have conveniently forgotten that Jess said they slept together.

I thought she did ask Rob about that and of course he denied it and put on a sad face that she had for one moment believed Jess rather than trusting him (well, that's what the picture looked like to me for sure)

was it Peggy that wouldn't tolerate the female vicar?
Her and Shula - who was also horrible when Usha married Alan. The worst sort of sexist, racist naice churchgoing type.

Will be quite funny if T&K organise their megabuck wedding and then half the people can't come because its midweek and most people have inflexible jobs/kids in school etc etc. I've forgotten their memorable date - if it's in the school hols that will mean more no-shows for families who've booked holidays. (I wouldn't wish that on Kirsty though)

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 24/02/2014 19:12

Oooh - PC Plod again...

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 24/02/2014 19:14

It's been the mildest day of the year here in London. It's also not rained. I am laughing like a drain listening to the residents of Ambridge complaining about the bitter cold and the endless rain.

bigbadbarry · 24/02/2014 19:35

Definitely. He had her apologising for not trusting him. (And why would she trust him, she's only known him 5 minutes and for most of that he was cheating on his wife.)
Was in the car listening to tonight's episode: I hope Kenton and Jolene aren't heading for a split? DD2 (aged 7) wanted to know if tom was on about sausages again!

BasketzatDawn · 24/02/2014 19:58

Big date is 24th April! So exactly 2 months. Only recall it cos it's same week as my birthday. Easter is less than 2 weeks earlier - Good Friday is 18th - I looked it up, so quite possible other people will have prior plans. So many imaginary friends may be away. I do like Kirsty so hope her wedding goes well. Though she is just a story character, I know. Smile

BasketzatDawn · 24/02/2014 20:06

The way I see the whole conflict thing at Bridge Farm is that it's a story, you need conflict, if nowt happened it would be very boring indeed. The script ideas have to be believable, in this case they are. I believe they are anyway. We all know people in real life like Tony and Pat and Tom. If I heard the story elsewhere I wouldn't necessarily agree with Tony, but in this case I do - partly cos we as the listeners know some of the back story. I feel Tony was 'down' for so long, sad about the cows going, pissed off about his pushy son, he just needs a break. And he has one now! It may not work out brilliantly with the new cattle, more conflict to come, but 'ideas man' had run roughshod over his parents for so long, it's good to see/hear the fightback IMO.

mummytime · 25/02/2014 04:31

Schools around here are all back by 24th (late Easter so it's at the end of the Holiday), so I guess we'll have to turn down the invite!

nauticant · 25/02/2014 10:22

Last night there was more development of the storyline of Tom and Kirsty's wedding heading towards (an as of yet unexplained) financial doom:

"never mind about the money ... stop worrying, let's book it"

Looking forward to hearing Chipolata Boy applying to the Bank of Gran (again!) to fund the wedding.

nauticant · 25/02/2014 11:44

This doesn't even require Tony's bovine venture to be a roaring success because it'll allow him to respond to criticism from Tom with "is this a lecture about financial prudence from the boy who has to get bailed out by his nana every few years?"

ComposHat · 25/02/2014 12:02

Yes he has made serial withdrawals from the bank of Peggoi hasn't he? He got her to buy Brian out (after he lost patience with Tom) and was there another occasion too?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 25/02/2014 12:14

I must say, much as I'm loving new Archers, the wedding scenario is looking increasingly unrealistic. The scale of the thing they're planning would suggest a year's advance notice, save the date flurries, limousine reservations - wedding planners. You surely cannot arrange a wedding at a place of such unheard of grandeur that we've never heard of it Hmm in a mere two months?

I do wonder what nemesis is stalking Tom. It's interesting, as someone said above, that Peggy has not actually handed over a penny yet. (I would totally love it if the engaged couple were forced to start married life living actually under P and T's roof. But I don't suppose it could get that bad....)
