Just don't be so careless with your watch Helen

I don't think they are partners just related businesses. H runs the shop which sells the produce? Pat does the yogurt. P and T have the farm and T has Tom Archer brand.

and although Tom did step in when Tony get ill that was only because Tony was overworked because Tom was off playing football with his pigs and skiving off the milking and there was the classic outburst from Dirty about sausages.

I presume Tom helps out with milking etc. because he will inherit the farm and is partly supported by bridge farm(the pigs are there aren't they?) but when it came to all the debt etc. P and T dealt with that so I assume the farm business is theirs.

I don't like the new Tony.
In fact I don't like any of that family.

justiceofthePeas · 24/02/2014 10:42

Dirty ...Kirsty ...sorry poor Kirsty who is actually obey of the nice characters. always cheery.

Ladyflip · 24/02/2014 10:59

I agree with oyu BitOutof practice. Tony behaving like a spoilt child. Buying a whole suckler herd is a massive investment, and to go ahead with it with no discussion is ridiculous.

As to the monthly partners meeting ppeatfruit, from my experience family farms don't run like that, especially where there are some difficulties with the family dynamic which is nearly always. They all just seem to mutter at each other with occasional rows!

WillieWaggledagger · 24/02/2014 11:08

i don't think that what tony did was right (especially wrt pat. even though she's taken it well i think it's out of order him taking a decision like that without consulting her). however i am enjoying tom being cross about it!

ppeatfruit · 24/02/2014 11:10

Oh dear ladyflip Could mean problems!!

BitOutOfPractice · 24/02/2014 11:13

I thought I was going to getflamed for my anti-Moany posts but I should have known this thread is better than that Grin [middle class R4 listener emoticon]

I think Tom and Helen are proper partners in the business ... remember a while ago when Pat and Tony went on holiday to warmer climes for a week and Tom had to go and buy something from the local agricultural store? He was complaining because he wasn't a signatory on the cheque book so he had trouble getting the stuff - and him and Helen both said how absurd it was that they were partners but not signatories.

I remember thinking at the time that it was extremely far-fetched that they didn't just have an account there which would just be paid at the end of the month like all normal farms.

Think when Pat and Tony got back from holiday they were added as signatories.

Martorana · 24/02/2014 12:04

You aren't suggesting that Rob is a Friend of Dorothy? Shock

ErrolTheDragon · 24/02/2014 12:06

I thought there was something a little while ago when Tom used the farm money because his ready meals business had a cash flow problem - implying he can write cheques on the farm account but that there are separate businesses.

HumphreyCobbler · 24/02/2014 12:07

I normally find Tony and Pat unbearable but am enjoying Tom getting his comeuppance so much I am momentarily willing to forget how irritating is.

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/02/2014 12:21

I remember Hellin and Chipolata browbeating Pol Pat and Moany until they finally agreed to take on a massive mortgage to buy the freehold of the farm.

History is here linky

I despise the lot of them but am rather liking New Tony (as much as one can like any of them) and am pleased to see the worm finally turning and facing up to Piggoi and the Chipolata Kid.

ComposHat · 24/02/2014 12:45

Piggoi & the chipolata kid. Caused me to snort coffee through my nose!

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/02/2014 12:50

Does anyone remember no-nonsense Hannah the Pig Girl? They should have kept her - she would have made an excellent match for Chipolata Kid!

teenybash7 · 24/02/2014 12:52

Just catching up with this thread. I'm really sorry for Daryl - I can't help it!

HumphreyCobbler · 24/02/2014 13:17

I also had never realised what a bitch Peggy is Shock Her words to Tony about resembling his father were so hurtful, it put me on his side a bit more.

IorekByrnisonsArmour · 24/02/2014 13:22

I didn't know there was an Archers thread

Nobody I know listens to it -or will admit it- Grin

So nice to find like minded people who loathe Tom and EvilRob Smile

FunLovinBunster · 24/02/2014 13:26

There's a great twitter feed for the Archers. And Alternative Archers.
Am trying to get Bloke interested in the Archers.
He said he doesn't give a shiny shite about Ambridge.
I may have to LTB...Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 24/02/2014 13:44

My new bloke is hooked. He missed it last night and begged for an update until I got him to admit he's hooked

ComposHat · 24/02/2014 13:53

humphrey it has always been there especially with those who don't maintain her rigid moral standards.

I do get theIimpression the impression that the new producer is allowing the less appetising features of that branch of the archers family to come to the surface.

Tony's inferiority complex, Jennifer's snobbishness, Peggy's harsh and unforgiving attitude to Tony, Hellin and Tom's hectoring of their parents have always been there in the background. But now they are firmly front and centre. I wonder if they are setting them up as the counterpoint to the more settled and functional Brookfield Archers.

I found it bizarre that Jess appeared, had a cosy face to face with Hellin telling her exactly what happened and has vanished into thin air, whilst frantic bed buying goes on....wtf?... surely there would have been more than that and Jess may even have confided in Jennifer... I thought she would have been back to confront Rob by now or at least warned Hellin of for good. it is not true to Hellins OCD character that she would quietly let this drop?
