TA is in a purple patch at the moment, rewarding listeners for wading through the dross of the previous year few months. Welcome all!

What's all this with PC Burns? Are they building him up for a reason?!

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 16/02/2014 14:38

It's hard to tellBitOut. One would imagine they intend to develop his relationship with the Brookfield clan....

Ambridge certainly needs some non-farming professional and other workers. What sort of community has no policeman, doctor, gardener, librarian (I know...) non-organic shop owner, pharmacist?

But I'm not happy that yet another new person has been introduced apparently straight from acting school - with no distinctive voice, accent or delivery. I am trusting them to do something about this under the new regime.

BitOutOfPractice · 16/02/2014 15:01

Zero his voice is a bit non-descript isn't it?

Perhaps there's going to be a massive crime wave!

Bluestocking · 16/02/2014 15:06

Does anyone else remember the Little Britain character who got his kicks dry-humping little old ladies? I am convinced PC Burns is gearing up to making a move on Jill. He can't resist all that flirtatious giggling and ooh-ing she goes in for.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 16/02/2014 16:13

He has got an accent - he's quite Northern

presumably so that we might in due course be able to identify him without him first having been audibly introduced to a third party Grin

Halsall · 16/02/2014 16:40

I thought Jill was actually sounding dangerously spaced out when she was ooh-ing and aah-ing over the 1st WW thing during the Brookfield cottage pie ep. Her voice was doing the most peculiar things.

On the old BBC messageboards it used to be claimed that Jill's swooping vocal gymnastics were down to her over-enthusiastic use of love-eggs. Possibly TMI but it makes me snigger whenever she gets particularly, ahem, uninhibited.

Bluestocking · 16/02/2014 16:45

Jill uses love eggs? Shock and Confused!

Halsall · 16/02/2014 16:56

I know Grin. There were some evil minds on those message-boards.

MataHairy · 16/02/2014 17:05

I've lurked on the last two of these threads but had to delurk to say that the lady that what plays Caroline was at a farmers' market yesterday Shock

I stumbled across her at a stall signing a book she'd written about rescuing a lurcher and was star struck although it was hard managing to play the role of fan girl whilst simultaneously avoiding looking directly at her as I didn't want to ruin the image in my head It was the highlight of my weekend Grin

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 16/02/2014 17:11

Can't think of a more appropriate place for Caroline to be on a Saturday. She does have to ensure that GG is sourcing the best possible produce!

AllMimsyWereTheBorogroves · 16/02/2014 17:14

MataHairy, what a fab name! I'd have been utterly starstruck too. Did she sound just the same?

ComposHat · 16/02/2014 17:16

4. Jess borrows Hellin's miraculous turkey baster and produces a step sibling for Henry

Or gets pissed and has a One Night stand with Jazzer. All three move in together and raise the resulting child collectively.

WillieWaggledagger · 16/02/2014 17:43

Perhaps Helen could put Jess under the patio?

BasketzatDawn · 16/02/2014 18:21

Or someone puts someone anyone under a patio - so PC Plot can solve the crime. There has to be a point in the man.

Going back a bit, the last PC in the village was rather involved in 'extra-curriculars'. That time it was Cathy Perks wot played away, though I think initially she didn't go further than the bar after closing. Please, what was he called?

Lots of villages don't have a police presence - round about here is talk of more and more of the small nicks being shut. Why should Borsetshire be any different? Something that struck me - as well as the lack of artistic types, which still bugs me - is that there are no teachers. I know there's no village school but there is one just along the road? Cathy P was the token teacher for a while. There needs to be another, methinks.

So the patio-putting: either Tom or Helen see their Gran under the patio. Helen will want o the lodge soon enough but she will be delusional about Rob for a while longer. Tom of course has his business and a wedding to fund.

I miss so much of the nuancy stuff cos I am deaf - I listened so hard this AM and did not pick up that Jess was pished. On Friday I even got up and stood beside the radio, how keen was I not to miss any of the Jess-Hellun scene.Disappointing. But life is too short to keep listening to Listen Again at top volume .....

Only half an hour till the next episode.

WillieWaggledagger · 16/02/2014 18:25

I have to admit I didn't pick up on her sounding pissed (more just pissed off) on Friday, but I haven't listened again . Though Helen did bring her coffee and water which I maybe should have picked up on as a sober-upping job!

BasketzatDawn · 16/02/2014 18:43

Yes, I heard the talk of water and coffee too, assumed they had had a drink after she arrived. She couldn't have driven all the way from Hants in a pished state. Not a good public health message for the dear listeners. And she wasn't needing Dutch courage as such as she knew nothing about Helen and all the shenanigans there. was simply dropping in on her husband ....

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 16/02/2014 18:45

Basketz I crossed "teacher" out of my list earlier because of Ifty - although frankly he didn't really count as he was only seen tutoring Freddie. Btw, I know it's no comfort but I suspect a lot of people miss nuance-y bits because the characters' voices are generally so indistinct.

I think they had to do something with Jess to make her sound like an adult......

WhatSheSaid · 16/02/2014 18:50

Ifty has just completely disappeared, hasn't he? Maybe Jess could take up with him, since Elizabeth spurned his advances.

Selks · 16/02/2014 19:02

Sat down cosy with a cuppa waiting for today's episode! Grin

Selks · 16/02/2014 19:05

Ooh he's posessive over his phone...

Shallishanti · 16/02/2014 19:07

of course!

Shallishanti · 16/02/2014 19:09

poor Tony, what a birthday

BasketzatDawn · 16/02/2014 19:10

I agree that all the voices are confusingly similar. DH - who alleges he ahs perfect hearing! - finds it hard too. Reassuring that I'm not alone in this.

I'm not sure what Ifty did/does work-wise - I know he had the cricket and the tutoring but that wasn't bread-earning as such? Hopefully there will be a woman for him, someday. Did Fallon not have the hots for him too, for a while?

Shallishanti · 16/02/2014 19:14

Jolene and Kenton modeling the mutual respect there!

lljkk · 16/02/2014 19:15

Bunny Broiler watch, anyone? Grin
