Hello you two :o

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 30/01/2014 05:47

I thought maybe you didn't know everything about him Richelieu because he was solely responsible for the starvation of many thousands of people who lived in La Rochelle (who happened to have a different religion from his Shock) and the terrible deaths of a priest and nuns ,who preached against his excesses, in a local town which was also burnt to the ground, Nice eh?

Cooroo · 30/01/2014 06:02

Another poetry fan here, I would have invited Jim in for a slow gin after that lovely moment!

Delurking to confess to being another Pat with Clarrie in second place. Hmmm. And if my husband was in 'Borsetshire goal' wouldn't that make him a footballer not a criminal? ( slopes back to Pedants' Corner)

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 30/01/2014 09:37

I'm Lillian and Im delighted to be a bon vivant, property developer.

Whoever said Helen sounds just like Claire in the Community is absolutely right. I was all confused yesterday...

Shallishanti · 30/01/2014 10:27

I knew he was a baddy.
Am I right in thinking then, that 'eminence grise' refers to someone who is thepower behind the throne...so Richelieu was one of those, just red (because of being a cardinal?)
...it is so many years since 6th form Grin

ppeatfruit · 30/01/2014 12:30

So have you name changed then Shallishanti? Grin Very wise Grin (it amazes me that outside the park where his palace was is a huge statue of him and they 'play down' the monstrousness of his exploits by saying that the times were grim) I'm not sure about eminence grise or rouge you're probably right.

I will say that the town is amazing; it is exactly as it was built in the 1640s with a moat and people living in the walls.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 30/01/2014 12:46

Sorry to interrupt...

Did I miss something? Who blabbed about the lottery win in the first place???

Poor Susan is going to arrive home to a doormat smothered in begging letters.Shock

Shallishanti · 30/01/2014 12:49

no, no, same name for yonks

WillieWaggledagger · 30/01/2014 13:11

bert horrobin according to joe (just listened again as dp was talking through it last night Hmm)

sounds like susan gave him some money but it's her sibs she doesn't want to know about it.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 30/01/2014 14:33

It wasn't even Borsetshire goal, it was Borcetshire goal Grin

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 30/01/2014 14:33

higher level of pedantry than you might have thought possible

ppeatfruit · 30/01/2014 15:18

Guarantee that it was Tracee who saw Emm buying a £2 hat for Ed. and put 2 and 2 together and made 1000 Grin Grin

ppeatfruit · 30/01/2014 15:19

Sorry Shalli Grin

ppeatfruit · 30/01/2014 15:22

I must say if Ed jnr. were MY SIL I would buy him a decent hat and bleedin' boots. What's Susan thinking about? Apart from cavorting in some weird beachwear!

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 30/01/2014 17:30

\link{http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/thearchers/posts/Ambridge-Extra-on-Radio-4-Extra\no more Amex for the foreseeable}

"tough financial choices"

hurrah! Grin

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 30/01/2014 17:47

""?

I think a National Holiday would be in order.

Thank the Lord the writers can now concentrate on the real stories.

Hurrah!

lljkk · 30/01/2014 19:06

Did AmEx feature Burt Horrobin getting money & blabbing?
-----
I hate you guys. I took one of those Which character...? quizzes and it turns out I'm... Pat.

I loathe her! That's it, reach for the razor blades now. Angry

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 30/01/2014 19:07

Uh-oh

Fisticuffs ahoy

BasketzatDawn · 30/01/2014 19:09

Isn't Borsetshire covered in water, like the rest of the rural West Country these days? How long does it take for one small boy to walk from Ambridge View to whrever Will lives? Keepers Cottage is it?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 30/01/2014 19:10

Well done, Eddie

FINALLY

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 30/01/2014 19:12

Did anybody else snigger at 'Into the Woods'?

BasketzatDawn · 30/01/2014 19:44

Anyone else feeling let down (a bit, I am not totally heartless) that the LostGeorgeeDrama didn't last longer? I agree Eddie (at last) is turning into quite a sensible person?

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 30/01/2014 19:52

I'm very glad things turned out as they did. They built up the tension quite relentlessly over a few minutes, to the point where I was thinking what a desperately sad homecoming it would be for Susan and Neil.

(Found myself comparing this to the Brookfield fire a while ago - this felt far more organic and therefore more affecting.)

Eddie has always been solid where his family is concerned - but he was utterly magnificent tonight.

I'm pleased for Ed.

Gigondas · 30/01/2014 20:06

I have always liked Eddie - tonight proved why.

MrsCampbellBlack · 30/01/2014 20:12

I like Eddie but god I really hate Ed [minority I know]

It would have been a lot more interesting to show a complex step-father relationship - which you know him being his uncle as well - it must be!

This neat tidying everything up so quickly is dull, I like long running stories that bubble under the surface.

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 30/01/2014 20:31

Oh don't despair MrsCB! Of course the Ed/Will/George story will keep going. It's just that the balance of favour should now tip to Ed...

George will probably want Holly back with the Carters. So at least Nic might be pleased.

But they are rather stuck in their relationships - that's not going to change.
