Hello you two :o

OP posts:
TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 11/01/2014 14:14

Marking place - am managing to keep up with my daily dose of Ambridge in between being intensively milked by the twins a la one of Rob's cows GrinWink
Pat is beyond passive aggressive
I am surprised Helen hasn't asked more questions of what R told Jess though.

ppeatfruit · 11/01/2014 14:24

AAh bless Olivia You're really to be congratulated for bfing twins that's a real challenge!! How are you all btw?

I loved the dinner! Wonderfully squirmy.

Selks · 11/01/2014 15:08

Ah new thread! Thanks.

GypsyFloss · 11/01/2014 15:21

So I'm just catching up on last night. Why don't Tom and Kirsty have their reception in a marquee on the farm?

That dinner party is making exhausting listening.

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 11/01/2014 15:50

Is there a possibility that Kirsty could get a little bit bridezilla?
Actually, Tom is a more likely candidate. Groomzilla!

ExitPursuedByABear · 11/01/2014 15:54

Signing in.

weebleswillwobble · 11/01/2014 16:01

Does Pat know that Helen and Rob's relationship started as an affair?

curlew · 11/01/2014 16:01

I just want to shake Helen and shout "You'e 35, ffs!!!!!!!!"

And did she really say that roast chicken was Rob's favourite? When she was supposed to have cooked a meal specifically for her mother's birthday? Really????????

Gigondas · 11/01/2014 16:06

Marking spot- can't believe helen is 35.

GypsyFloss · 11/01/2014 16:11

Weebles I think she suspects but doesn't dare confront Helen about it.

The cosy Helen and Rob couple thing was really grim. I do hope Jess comes back from under the patio to put a stop to all this nonsense.

I can't decide whether the script writers really do expect us to believe the big love story or whether they are setting up a domestic abuse storyline. It certainly sounds to me like the latter. But then there's been plenty of stories over the years that never quite pan out how they first appeared to be signposted.

curlew · 11/01/2014 16:49

Pat does know it started as an affair- and she also knows that Tom knows.

curlew · 11/01/2014 16:49

Sorry- that Tom knew about it when it was happening.

MissFenella · 11/01/2014 17:20

I cannot imagine anyone speaking to their mother like Helen does to Pat and not be pulled up on it. She is so rude and patronising.

I am no Pat fan and cannot help feeling she is reaping what she has sown somewhat with her children.

They all need a jolly good talking to.

curlew · 11/01/2014 17:22

Funny how people don't like Pat. I really can't see why.

Eastpoint · 11/01/2014 17:27

I think people find it hard to like someone who is so highly principled as it makes them feel inadequate. Pat is very decent and has had to deal with a lot since she married Tony. In some ways she is similar to Lynda, in fact I wonder whether they both suffer from misogynism from the scriptwriters as they are 'good' people?

MissFenella · 11/01/2014 17:33

I have no problems with Pat's principles.

I do think she needs to cheer up a bit and stop trying to micromanage her family.

I enjoy when she and Cathy go out for a wine or two, but her opinion and treatment of her children is just loco. She called Helen independent for goodness sake!

I love Lindypops (and Robert) but cannot believe she would get away with coercing villagers as she does and not be told to bog off once in a while.

Something I've been thinking for a few weeks - are there any artistic types in Ambridge or area? A place like this IRL would have lots, wouldn't it? probably incomers who have moved from city to country, but also an established local with some talent?

Re-Pat and her 'high principles', yes, maybe, but her voice is annoying (to me) and she is quite awful the way she kind of barracks the family. I agree, very PA. Her line about her birthday being ruined now, by Hel's news, had me going Confused. If Hel is 35, what age is Pat? She can't back down till she gets her say, her own way. And my poor DH has never got over the fact she was once a Welsh feminist Grin... before my time, I think. She doesn't sound the least Welsh now.

I am getting to like the new Tony. I can kind of hear the bits of 'old Tony' the new actor is trying to keep in. I've almost forgotten the old T's voice (which says more about my memory than anything else really).

ppeatfruit · 11/01/2014 18:07

curlew didn't Tom tell Pat he found out when it finished just before Jess came up to Amb.? (i'm trying to remember if he knew before) deffo Kirstie knew at the time.

IMO Pat is OTT with Hell, I know there are reasons for her neurosing about her, but she must let her go, that whine "she's my daughter". WTF she's an adult who has to make her own mistakes; it's an impossible situation due to them living in the same house.

ppeatfruit · 11/01/2014 18:12

I LIKE the new Tony and him and Rob don't sound a bit alike, the odd thing is he sounds so much more energetic, why doesn't Pat ask him what he's on?!!

curlew · 11/01/2014 18:21

But she's an organic farmer- of course she's got high principles!

I suspect it's because she's a feminist and doesn't mind saying so.....

ZeroSomeGameThingy · 11/01/2014 19:03

Basketz the nearest they get to artistic is Elizabeth's late MIL's beau - who appears to still live and work at Lower Loxley. But I can never remember his name. Nice man, he should be in it more.

I agree the new Tony needs to tone down the positivity in his voice - the words may be the same but old Tony was so good at expressing a nature resistant to any new idea.

lljkk · 11/01/2014 19:16

I think I like new Tony.
I loathe Helen & Pat in almost equal measure. Can't decide which one to root for in their sniping. Arrggghgh.... Maybe Helen. More entertaining & less purely irritating.
