Hello you two :o

OP posts:
drspouse · 21/01/2014 20:57

helpyourself so did I and a friend taped the omnibus! We had a real dilemma when it went to 75 minutes!

Rob is in tied accommodation I think? So he'll want a nest egg - it's hard to get on the property ladder in his kind of job.

WillieWaggledagger · 21/01/2014 21:08

That's lovely helpyourself

Hasn't the iplayer changed things

gwenniebee · 21/01/2014 22:02

When did Listen With Mother end? What would have been on circa 1985 for children before or after TA? I think there might have been something at 2.15. I remember distinctly being really peeved because I had to be silent during mum's "story" but then she would do something heinous like use the blender or hoover during "mine" :D

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 21/01/2014 22:11

Listen with Mother ended in 1982 according to wiki

Woman's Hour ran from 2-3pm, until it switched to 10am in 1998, so no scope for either TA or a children's prog within that slot in 1985

prior to that TA might have been on at 1.45pm? I was listening from mid-80s but can't remember.

SomewhereBeyondTheSea · 21/01/2014 22:12

Kirsty knows that the pigs will be living in air-con trailers before she sees a penny of that money.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 21/01/2014 22:13

WATO was only 30 mins until quite recently so the 1.30-2 slot had scope

gwenniebee · 21/01/2014 22:23

Yes, I suppose there may have been a children's story from 1.30 and then TA from 1.45?? I certainly think of it as a post lunch strop event.

gwenniebee · 21/01/2014 22:24

PS Have just worked out why WATO misses out the "The" in its acronym Grin

MissMilliment · 21/01/2014 22:26

WATO used to be 1-1.40, then Archers and shipping forecast, then Woman's Hour 2-3, then the afternoon play, then I think, Kaleidoscope. I don't think they had a children's programme after Listen With Mother stopped. I listened to it in the mid-70s.

MissMilliment · 21/01/2014 22:40

Ooh! It might have been a Schools radio programme you listened to, Gwennie - the BBC used to put schools programming on their standard channels' other frequencies sometimes - so Radio 4 FM might have schools radio while LW had the other stuff.

gwenniebee · 22/01/2014 09:13

It could be, MissMilliment. There is also, I suppose, a possibility that Mother may have Shock retuned the radio Shock. I thought "the radio" was R4 until I was about 10. At that point I occasionally began to listen to R3 and ClassicFM too Grin nobody could accuse me of not being with the times.

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2014 09:43

'Ere gipsyfloss dh 's best shoes are tasselled loafers and very nice they look too Grin The luvvie who plays Brine seems nice when i've heard him on various programmes actually and funny. Blush

MissMilliment · 22/01/2014 10:08

gwennie - our radio at home growing up was also radio 4 or nothing.

I remember the first time I got involved in an Archers storyline was a loooong time ago - I was probably about 8 - when the cliffhanger was someone (Phil Archer maybe?) worrying that the pig might have gone lame. Cue doom music. I was hooked Grin

TaurielTest · 22/01/2014 14:12

I thought Rob's "won't the lodge be useful for renting / Henry" was a bit sinister, trying to dissuade Helen from thinking of it as her own place (future bolthole when he turns nasty?)

I was in the States for a year in the 90s, every fortnight a C120 tape lovingly made by my dad would arrive in the post. I am still close friends with the other British student who used to come over to my dormroom to join me for an Ambridge double-bill :)

i wondered if it's possible for the dog to move with george as he moves between homes

obviously doesn't solve the fundamental george-believes-ed-hates-dogs problem

curlew · 22/01/2014 14:27

Did I miss a meeting? When was it decided that Holly would live at Will and Nick's? Do we know how Nick feels about that, her having the baby and all?

And I've just though- is there any significance in the baby names? Poppy Josephine being sort of middle class aspirational and Kiera....not being?

ComposHat · 22/01/2014 14:33

I assumed Josephine was after Will's granddad Joe.

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2014 14:34

Of course the "Rob could turn nasty' thing might just be a ploy by the SW's to make us listen Hmm Like the "Darrell will set fire to the cider shed" ploy. Aha now I've sussed it!!!

CuttedUpPear · 22/01/2014 14:36

Yes Rob was a bit sinister. How put out he was that Helen had been thinking about living in the Lodge at some point in the future (it could be decades) and how it made him sad because he wanted her to live with him forever and ever and ever.
Creeeeepy

ppeatfruit · 22/01/2014 14:36

yes so hellrob will live happily ever after !!!!

WipsGlitter · 22/01/2014 14:36

OMG on listening on catch up. Red flag central with Rob 'being cheeky' and wanting to visit Peggy too. And being controlling with what she does with it long term!! Nightmare.

ComposHat · 22/01/2014 14:39

I don't know. It is possible, but there's been so much build up to the Hellin & Rob storyline that I'd be surprised if it was resolved by them having a happy snduuncomplicated relationship.

Plus this is a Hellin a one woman emotional train wreck.

WillieWaggledagger · 22/01/2014 14:40

it seemed too that rob hadn't told helen that he had spoken to pat, because she was suggesting that he talk to them (so pat hasn't said anything either)
