Hello you two :o

OP posts:
LondonMother · 16/01/2014 19:42

Jack always had a blind spot where Hazel was concerned. She could do no wrong in his eyes. From a legal point of view, it's many, many years since he lost the mental capacity to make a valid change to his will, even if he'd wanted to, and that probably explains the amazing generosity to Hazel, who doesn't deserve it in the least. What a cow she is!

So delighted to hear Helen and Pat going at each other hammer and tongs. Long may this last!

Shop: I foresee a massive community effort to raise the funds to buy Hazel out. If not successful, maybe the community shop could re-locate to the church or the village hall or The Bull.

LondonMother · 16/01/2014 19:43

Oh and yes, the shop belonged to Jack.

Not good news for the Grundy clan, is it? I don't see Hazel keeping the rent on Keeper's at an affordable level.

lljkk · 16/01/2014 19:47

Wouldn't LoLo host something like a classical musical festival? Is that too obvious?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2014 19:47

Can you sell shops easily though - wouldn't conversion to housing require change of use type of thing? Not sure many people would want to buy a village shop as a shop (judging from the our village Sad). Hazel mentioned rent ... presumably the community shop isn't paying much but if she tries to push it, it will fold and she'll be stuck with business rates on an unoccupied property. Or something like that.

PrincessFiorimonde · 16/01/2014 19:51

Rather surprised such an acclaimed thesp [David Troughton] is roughing it in Ambridge

I thought that too...

LondonMother · 16/01/2014 19:52

I know nothing about property law, planning permission etc etc but judging by the number of village shops and pubs which have closed and been converted into flats and houses I'd say she'd have an excellent chance of selling the shop building for a small fortune - seven figures? It's in the centre of a picturesque village, very near the church, the pub and the village green and pond, commuting distance from Brum.

Bad news for Fallon and Rhys the Welsh barman, as they're currently living in the minuscule flat above the shop.

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2014 20:05

I think they must have got wedged behind a door and trapped, haven't heard from them for ages have we?

PrincessFiorimonde · 16/01/2014 20:06

Pseudo: Gah stupid SWs haven't checked their facts again! There have been no prizes of £4500 on any lottery as far as I can see.

You checked? so did I! Blush

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 16/01/2014 20:15

oooh...

I wonder whether, maybe, with Hazel sweeping out so fast, there might be any conditions to her inheritance which she doesn't know about yet?

Could that be possible?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 16/01/2014 20:16

eg, the shop must remain as a benefit to the community at current rent as long as it's needed?

existing tenants' rent can only be increased in line with inflation?

that kind of thing?

ErrolTheDragon · 16/01/2014 20:19

Didn't the community shop come about after Jack was out of action - I can't remember the whys and wherefores now. Doubt Jack would have had such clauses anyway - he was a good guy but he was a businessman.

PrincessFiorimonde · 16/01/2014 20:22

I reckon that nice young PC is a gerontophile who's taken a fancy to her [Jill].

If it wasn't for the current story line, I'd wonder if Jill was going to form a bond with the nice young PC and change her will accordingly.

PrincessFiorimonde · 16/01/2014 20:33

It does seem odd that Sensible Jack has left both the shop (and the flat above) and the Grundys' home (have I got that right?) to Horrible Hazel (whom I now have to picture as a Slitheen Grin).

I actually gasped at Henry referring to Rob as 'Daddy'. Blush

And Hmm at Helen telling Pat she's a rotten mother!

Most of all, I agree with this: I must say how lovely it is to have multiple ongoing plots that I care about again!

WillieWaggledagger · 16/01/2014 20:38

I wondered whether the will (and hazel's likely subsequent behaviour) might give rather a lot of people motive for her murder...

Probably too much to ask

WillieWaggledagger · 16/01/2014 20:40

Princess I gasped too!

Impomea · 16/01/2014 21:48

I am loving the continuity announcers little quips although I missed what he said at the end -Dh was talking to me Angry!Grin

TheSparklyPussycat · 16/01/2014 21:56

See my last post...

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 16/01/2014 22:03

I heard the continuity bloke, but missed the bit he was commenting on - have just listened again & had a good cackle

Ooooh this is going to be good - "it'd be nice to have my parents there to support me" - cheeky cow! "Nice to have my parents there for me to take advantage of so that I can carry on doing exactly what I please" more like!

Pat's chickens coming home to roost, with bells on...

Impomea · 16/01/2014 22:04

Grin Grin thanks Pussycat

GypsyFloss · 16/01/2014 22:35

There's no way that Henry decided by himself to call a Rob "Daddy" . What is Helen thinking of?

I don't like the Hazel storyline. It's so obvious and she is like a cartoon baddie.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 16/01/2014 22:59

Until very recently, Henry had been calling Rob 'Rob' - for weeks/months.

Even if Helen had told him 'Rob is Daddy now' (& surely she wouldn't - even Helen isn't that crass) it's hard to believe he would instantly switch to 'Daddy'

Very clunky

curlew · 16/01/2014 23:01

"Pat's chickens coming home to roost, with bells on..."

How is any of this Pat's fault???????????

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 16/01/2014 23:14

You don't think Helen has been completely over-indulged since John died?

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 16/01/2014 23:15

& even more since Greg died?

PrincessFiorimonde · 17/01/2014 01:25

By the way, didn't Mike and Betty have a win on the Lottery, a few years ago, which allowed them to buy their house?

Two large(ish) wins on the Lottery in a small village - how realistic is that?
