Delighted to hear the good news from Pseudo and Olivia!

I suppose it's too much to hope that on Christmas Day we hear Leonie telling James she's pregnant, Helen telling Rob ditto, Jess telling Rob ditto...

GypsyFloss · 22/12/2013 09:22

Congratulations Olivia :)

Oh I would love multiple pregnancy announcements. I also suspect that Basketzatdawn's storyline could be rather close to the truth.

OddFodd · 22/12/2013 09:32

Great news Pseudo Thanks - what a relief

Olivia - congratulations and welcome back to the bosom of the Archers :)

I'm going to have to listen to the Omnibus to hear the story arc (or I'm an addict - you choose)

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 22/12/2013 10:33

Oh! Henry and Keira "like an old married couple"...

Nice to know what they're planning for the future.Xmas Grin

GypsyFloss · 22/12/2013 11:02

I'm listening to the omnibus.

I am very concerned for Ed. I worry that he is going to be badly injured in the gas canister explosion.

Rob and Jess are as bad as each other.

Jill's girlish giggle is getting worse.

HumphreyCobbler · 22/12/2013 11:14

Just listened to the party episode. He was sooo vile, it made me rather stressed.

And now Hellin is being taken in by the evil bastard.

ppeatfruit · 22/12/2013 11:16

Can I add my felicitations Olivia 2 lovely names and weights!! I bet you're glad they're out though!!

Nah the conflagration story will be low key; darrell will put it out and will realise he actually needs to 'pull himself together' at last, end of!!

TheSparklyPussycat · 22/12/2013 12:06

On a serious note, may I point out that emotional abuse is DV. I hope it doesn't get physical, to reinforce this point.

On a frivolous (but serious) note, I commended thursday's epi on the Emtional Abuse support thread in Relationships.

Cracking stuff, I thought :) who was the SW?, I managed not to catch that info.

curlew · 22/12/2013 12:15

I heard and have forgotten the SW's name, but it wasn't a British sounding name. I remember thinking that they must either be several generations English or the most amazing observer of people to be able to get that typically English social incompetence so right.......

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 22/12/2013 12:42

Xmas Grin Don't think it takes several generations curlew.....

curlew · 22/12/2013 12:46

Don' forget the first generation is spent thinking "bloody hell, they can't really be like that can they?"

ppeatfruit · 22/12/2013 13:47

Blimey curlew I don't reckon social incompetence is confined to England is it? I say; remembering a peculiarly awkward 'welcome' party to our Fr. village (one half of the village didn't (and doesn't) speak to the other) so they were arranged either side of our empty salon NOT SPEAKING!!!

curlew · 22/12/2013 13:49

No- but I think there is a particular English sort. That's what I meant!

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 22/12/2013 14:21

curlew by "first" generation do you mean "first generation born in the UK?" (Rather than the generation that emigrated from somewhere else.)

(Answer carefully - my Christmas spirit may be at stake...)

LondonMother · 22/12/2013 14:22

Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti, I think.

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 22/12/2013 14:31

OMG.

THAT writer?

An actual, proper shit-stirring playwright?

Wow.

curlew · 22/12/2013 15:08

A bit puzzled, Zero. What on earth are you implying?

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 22/12/2013 15:16

Oh sorry - no mystery! I was simply preparing to disagree quite strenuously if you meant that "people born in the UK of immigrant parents" (my understanding of "first generation") would have difficulty understanding / portraying the subtle nuances of English life.

Really quite strenuously.

curlew · 22/12/2013 15:19

Ah.

No, I'm not a racist.

ZeroSomeFestiveGameThingy · 22/12/2013 15:31

Nothing to do with ....that tedious word.

But if people aren't assumed to be able to understand the society they're born into then they are slightly left in limbo.

(The kind of limbo that has people asking them when they might be returning "home" when they go to interviews for professional jobs.)

On this subject I am very quick to take offence - even where none was intended.

But I certainly hope this particular writer (I only know her writing background) will sattc in the right way.

TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 22/12/2013 15:34

I always thought immigrant parents themselves were 1st generation, & their children would be 2nd, but it depends when & where the children were born. I just came across the phrase \link{http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigrant_generations#1.5_generation\1.5 generation} referring to children who immigrated before or during early teens

Interesting...relevant to the Tsarnaev brothers, as elder arrived aged 16 (ish) & didn't properly assimilate, but younger was 8 & he did (well, he did initially Sad)

curlew · 22/12/2013 15:48

Well it sure as hell sounded like an accusation to me. But hey, ho. Maybe the stuff of another thread.

Can't wait for tonight's episode- and I haven't said that for many months. I do hope it doesn't all trail off to nothing like so many other promising plot lines.

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/12/2013 15:55

Anyway, I don't think Helen is pregnant yet after all as she keeps going out for a drink with kirsty.

I wonder if Rob and Jess have a big bust up before they're meant to go to her mums and she storms off without him. Then poor lonesome Rob will bump into poor lonesome Helen . . .

MrsCampbellBlack · 22/12/2013 15:55

I reckon we're building up for a fantastic archers christmas Curlew Smile

TheSparklyPussycat · 22/12/2013 16:07

Rob is now running "my wife blames me for everything wrong in her life" with a view to recapturing the lovely Helen. This is a well known script on the Relationships board. It's all the wife's fault the poor MM had to stray and get the cheesy one pregnant this time
