Yes, and I wasn't impressed by Helen laughing along with emma - just nasty.

And she wouldn't have kept the children if susan hadn't insisted.

I did laugh at her 'I've got 2 nvq's in catering' - the put down of all put downs

Yes Humphrey Of course it could just 've been a contest between parsnips for Emmur!! IMO I've got a one track mind this morning apologies Grin

TheOriginal Alan is a typical mealy mouthed vicar IMO!

Yes, Janet was a lovely vicar, and very revolutionary for Ambridge having a woman priest, however lots of people gave her a hard time and refused to go to her services, you Peggy, I mean you. I am trying to remember why she finally left, but she had a lovely soothing voice. When Alan arrived he was really exciting with his leathers and bad ass ( ish) biker/vicar attitude Grin - but as you say, has been rather emasculated and had to change his ways to fit in with Ambridge's parochial outlook :( - tho' I guess marrying Usha was pretty in your face for Ambridge.

I guess the Daryl/Darrell story will drag on ,until a) Shula offers him a straw bed in a manger in one of her stables (!) - Christmassy, b) Eric finally beats him to a pulp ( imagine the collective guilt) or c) Ilona, under pressure from Rosa, has him back again - or d) Peggy/Jack die and leave them all a massive inheritance. Yeah, right.

TBF on Alan, I don't think he's too comfortable about spending money on the organ in the light of Darryl's plight, but if people have put in effort to raise money for something specific he can't just appropriate those funds for another cause. Its not so much him as the church/churchgoers in general who have a questionable sense of priorities.

Vicars and motor bikes are such a cliche.

I'd rather near a bit of decent organ playing than Alan's excruciatingly patronising sermonettes.

Pass the organ fund collecting tin over here, please.

Hmm. Darrell is on JSA, at least. He would have been obliged to seek work and get evidence that he has done so, this can include asking around. But the SWs missed the bit where he would have asked Rob to sign to show he'd asked. (I know this happens, or at least it did a couple of years ago when someone called into a shop I was in, asking for work.)

Half hoping he'll be sanctioned for turning up 5 min late to sign on. Which shows I know he's fictional.

ppeatfruit · 02/10/2013 17:01

Doesn't he have to have an address for JSA Thesilvery? i was thinking he uses Ilona's address 'cos he didn't stay at the Elms long enough did he?

Report
TheSilverySoothsayer · 02/10/2013 17:10

I wondered that, and assumed The Elms. But your idea seems more likely.

No. I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. Re homelessness. Why are the SWs doing this? Has Ambridge become the new UKIP stronghold? Or have the Bull regulars and owners had their empathy glands removed. Nobody behaves like that to someone they actually know....Angry

This is also pissing me off something rotten. Darrell tried his best not to go along with Matt Crawfish, all he wanted was to do his work but Matt threatened him if he didn't mess up those old people's house. Now suddenly (it seems) he is a pariah who stinks FFS! (Not that anyone in the village knows that about Matt, it seems.) And although drawn in to the dog fighting thing (Ilona nagged him into it, almost) he did do the right thing in the end...

MrsCampbellBlack · 02/10/2013 20:08

Darrell is going to kill himself I reckon and then everyone will have to do an awful lot of navel gazing about their part in his downfall.

PigletJohn · 02/10/2013 20:09

I see from the ONS that
•The highest suicide rate was in males aged 30 to 44 (23.5 deaths per 100,000 population in 2011

so maybe Darrel will be among them. I believe it is the single most common cause of death in men of that age range.

When Jolene's ex-husband found himself roofless she took him into the Bull. Kenton is faultlessly kind-hearted. Oliver is a bit dim but not above offering help where need is pointed out to him. And Ed! Of all people. Months in a caravan. In winter. Reduced to taking drugs on the street. (I don't even count the recent foodbank episode because that was mis-handled as well...) Ed may not know in detail about Darrell's troubles but he is the last person to deal out callous dismissal.

What has happened to this programme?

I will be furious if he kills himself. What would be the moral of that story? That no-one should expect to live through hard times now? Stay respectable - or else!

I would call for a march on Birmingham - but I fear the SWs will all be going home with the current party conference speakers.

Somethingyesterday - its what I harp on about, the scriptwriters just don't know the characters at all.

In such a small community - come on, Alan could have let him have a shower - it just doesn't ring true. And it annoys me intensely.

Oh also thought that Ed was definitely laying the blame at Grey Gables for Joe's fall (lets forget he was pissed)

They'll all then start on Linda and forget how utterly wonderful she's been in the past to people like Kathy
