I feel like everything is tense and artificial and building up to something terrible happening. What is going to happen? I don't listen to The Archers for the drama, I listen to it for the feelgopod factor, although I know there are always frictions and crises to cope with, but notheing too shocking.......... well there was the time when Ed was a crack head Xmas Hmm but that all got sorted out in the end and it was ptrobably for the best that he ran away to the big city and lost his way for a while etc etc....

I hope Helen's baby doesn't die. I don't actually care about Helen, but it would be just too awful.

It was David's fault that they went up there then. Nigel had decided not to until David suggested it again. I think that's quite clever actually - so often blame themselves when things aren't their fault. In this case Nigel bears much of the responsibility - it was his daft idea to put a banner up in the first place - but it was David who was the catalyst for the situation. In Lizzie's place I think I would blame him as well as Nigel tbh.

Re Jill - well when your child is horrifically widowed and your grandchildren bereft what do you do? Rending of hair is very unhelpful so you just get on with things. Very clever that she was preparing food for Elizabeth - food is a major way in which we show love and care.

Ponders · 03/01/2011 20:47

And as well as the loss of Nigel himself, there's the burning question of which school the twins will be sent to? Lizzie wasn't that keen on the posh private school but it's what Nigel wanted; Jill was having words with Nigel about it - what will she do if Lizzie decides to carry on with Nigel's plans?

Northernlebkuchen · 03/01/2011 21:04

How is Lizzie going to pay for it? Replacing Nigel's labour on the estate will be very, very expensive - assuming she has the heart to carry on. Will his insurance cover him considering he FELL OFF THE ROOF!

edam · 03/01/2011 21:04

Missed tonight's episode ? IS Nigel dead?

MaryAnnSingleton · 03/01/2011 21:06

yes, dead. And Shula is milking it I feel...

edam · 03/01/2011 21:06

She would!

Ponders · 03/01/2011 21:12

I had that very conversation with DH earlier, lebkuchen - about if insurance covers you when you do something really stupid.

It was an accident though (albeit a very Darwinian one)

Ponders · 03/01/2011 21:15

Oh, & it was Kenton's idea to put the banner on the roof - Nigel was only going to put it above the front door or something. So both the idiot male Archers are somewhat responsible. Lizzie will have a field day Hmm

I thought Jill was very good too - trying to keep strong for everybody but on the verge of weeping

Northernlebkuchen · 03/01/2011 21:18

Shula is always a bit martyred but it was utterly awful for her. Where was Alistair - surely he didn't need to stay at home with Daniel? I hope he wasn't gambling for comfort......

GrimmaTheNome · 03/01/2011 21:26

Where was Alistair
tending to sick animals I assume - it is the start of lambing after all. Life goes on you know, especially in the country

Northernlebkuchen · 03/01/2011 21:30

He wasn't eve mentioned though - Kenton was off with the kids, Ruth was holding the fort at Brookfield. You would have thought they would chuck in a 'Alistair is coming over after he's done his rounds'

WhatSheSaid · 03/01/2011 21:33

Didn't Shula used to go out with Nigel, years before he got together with Elizabeth? Or am I imagining that?

Ponders · 03/01/2011 21:34

Very dignified. Not his idea though Sad

He & Alison Dowling will be on BBC Breakfast tomorrow

Yes Shula did go out with Nigel first.

Oh I loathe Vanessa Whitburn Angry

I can see the dramatic impetus of it - but it's just mean!

Ponders · 03/01/2011 21:36

Yes, she did, WSS - I can vaguely remember a scene where Shula was in a tent with someone & someone else was not-quite-stalking her but can't remember which one was Nigel

iirc she was quite dog-in-the-manger when he got together with Lizzie (but then she often is!)

I have just unsubscribed from the daily synopsis e-mail - the only way I can see to be counted as not happy.

Sinkingfeeling · 03/01/2011 22:25

Poor Nigel - he will be sadly missed :(. Doesn't he have a sister though - will she come back and claim Lower Loxley as her inheritance?

Ponders · 03/01/2011 22:39

he does have a sister but I don't think it works like that with family property inheritance, does it? hence P Anne getting pushed further & further down the line of succession - the daughters of her brothers precede her because she is the daughter of the female line. (Or something)

So Freddie will be the heir. I think.

Eleison · 03/01/2011 22:42

Ponders, you insurrectionist! GrinI love the idea of unsubscribing from the Archers synopsis email as a form of rebellion.

At last we might have found a way to get the coalition on the run.

Ormirian · 04/01/2011 20:27

Poor old Nige Sad

I am dreading the fiery wind of retribution that will be Lizzy P in the next few months.

EdgarAleNPie · 04/01/2011 20:29

oh yes and cue a 'we are so poor and hard done by now daddy is gone' storyline that pisses everyone else off.
