@CountingCrones - I use Google sometimes or hints. I don’t think I’d ever get it otherwise. And sometimes I don’t get it even with Google and hints! I still spend a lot of time looking at the grid in confusion!

I knew the first line was probably wrong. I didn’t find that as fun as I’m sure the settlers thought they were.

I use google sometimes because American meanings of words are not always obvious and although I’m not bad on the names of American sports teams I don’t know all of them. Living in the US for a while helps but isn’t enough. I think not using google at all if you are not American is giving yourself a huge disadvantage.

No default today. That type of puzzle really suits my weird brain type 😀

I don't use hints and I'm sure that I fail a lot more often because of that, but I do also have a slight advantage from living in Canada and probably being exposed to more North American sports than most.

I’m not ashamed to admit I’d rather Google whether the penguins are an ice hockey team than lose my streak. I never look at hints or the picture though.

What do you mean by looking at the picture?

The Connections Companion (the lightbulb symbol at the top of the puzzle) has a picture at the top which gives a hint to at least one of the connections. There are also hints in there that give you one of each category. There’s a link on there to the chat which I sometimes look at after I’ve solved it to enjoy the non-American anguish.
