Divatheshopaholic · 09/12/2009 16:08

how is everyone?
janx, your dd sounds just like mine when she was little too. she never was clinky, she was so independant baby, unlike ds now, proper mummy`s boy. lots of kisses and hugs and holding onto me.
bexie, i took some teletubies books to charity on monday ill have another look in the loft. i might have friction noonoo, if any good.

StrictlyKatty · 09/12/2009 16:47

OMG that Bugaboo Maclaren got for £90 went for £410 Jesus that's a profit!

nicolamumof3wisemen · 09/12/2009 17:09

5inthesleighbed · 09/12/2009 17:59

Wow! Great profit! What pram was she going to get with the profits?

Bargain XT near me

I'm trying to find a cheap pram for my friend, single mam with 3 kids. She has a crappy pram atm, so hard to push her little boy in. Might stick an ad on freecycle.

Jan, sorry Frida is still poorly. Hope she gets better soon.

BexieID · 09/12/2009 18:02

Diva, I could always take the Peacocks sacks back? Not posted yet. Am waiting till Saturday when I can nip down for 9am and hopefully not have to Q for long! Friction Noo Noo sounds good. Am watching a few on ebay.

FMTD, am bidding on some wee cuddlies, so will let you know if I don't win them.

maxybrown · 09/12/2009 18:11

Janx, sorry did not see your dd was poorly.

janxmas · 09/12/2009 20:37

Evening all and thanks for all your good wishes. Am still full of cold - dd is fine - not sure why she was at home really. When dp picked her up she was lying on a pile of cushions and came home with about 10 get well cards her friends had made. She can be a bit of a drama queen and think she was haming it up a bit ...so she spent the day on the sofa with dvds and books.
Me and dp had a bit of a talk and he has been worrying about making ends meet and feeling like he isn't making enough money - plus one of his new clients is taking the piss with some payment. Anyway we had a hug and we will be alright.
Nicola I forgot to say I got the hoody and pingu top - luka loves those tops - thanks

We are planning to get our tree at the weekend...I like mine looking slightly higgledy pigglety - adds to the charm me thinks

nicolamumof3wisemen · 09/12/2009 20:40

we only have ours up as it [whispers] 'not real' omg was sooooo much easier, out of box, straighten and away!! i think i could be converted, its really lovely one, sort of snow tipped. nice.

Divatheshopaholic · 09/12/2009 20:48

Nicola, sounds lovely tree with snow
Im wondering about selling maxi cosi priori on ebay, anyone sold carseat on ebay?

nicolamumof3wisemen · 09/12/2009 20:59

i sold my maxi cosi to buggynuts recently, i'd try on here or on pram board/netmums/etc first? if you can get a box and courier it you will get more. i think i got £50 plus post for mine? and then bought the rodi xr which is a lovely seat, i think luka should move up into next stage seat, but he sleeps alot if we go on long journeys and high back boosters just don't have same recline.

Divatheshopaholic · 09/12/2009 21:13

carseats always confuses me, ds in maxi cosi priori xp in my car, and his head already seem to show over the back of the carseat. i dont know what carseat he needs next
when checked mothercare website, it says maxi cosi priori is up to 4 years
he is only just over 2 years.
thanks nicola, i try to sell it on boards, i dont want lot as it used with two kids, im happy to let it go 30pounds or something.

nicolamumof3wisemen · 09/12/2009 21:20

Must admit that was my newer one i sold i think as it had red covers on, i kept the black. Its all by weight diva, and the maxi cosi priori goes up to 18kg so depends what he weighs? i know luka was 15kg when we went to hospital in september, will weight him again and check. Tate has the Rodi which is next one up and its a nice seat.

maxybrown · 09/12/2009 21:25

I need a car seat that will fit in our old volvo. That is the thing with classic vehicles, it is a damn nuisance to get seats to fit. I have a practically brand new Britax I am going to try and sell too Diva, so snap!! lol. it just won't fit in the back We have a different Britax in our camper that fits with lap belt, so may have to try and get another one of those, it fits fantastically in camper.

BexieID · 09/12/2009 22:29

Diva, i'll take them back when you've got the Home Bargains ones, just in case they've sold out or something stupid. Was bidding on the beanies on ebay but would be interested in case I get outbid!

horsemadgal · 10/12/2009 10:03

Morning , where are you all?

Diva, you don't need to worry about their heads being at the top of seat until the tops of their ears go over it!!
But max weight on most harness type is 18kg I think.

BexieID · 10/12/2009 10:20

Toms not going into the next stage car seat (group 2-3) until he is pretty much too heavy for the group 1. Or, until the baby kicks him out, lol. I'm not sure how far his head is up in the XP, will look when I fetch him from nursery later. I'd rather he was in a seat with an integral harness for as long as possible after seeing/reading what happend to kids under 5 slipping through a normal car seat harness and being killed in the USA (when their older siblings were fine in the same seat).

maxybrown · 10/12/2009 10:35

Morning all! Got loads to try and get done today so having ten mins now and a cuppa then off I go!

I do think we are a bit backwards here in terms of car seats tbh. I am fortnate in having a lightweight so should get a while out of car seats.

nappyaddict · 10/12/2009 11:02

See a nursery where they do loads of learning and prep for school puts me off. That's why I wasn't keen on any of the nurseries attached to schools tbh. DS still goes to his playgroup he started when it was 2. It's so lovely and he can't wait to go but it's just playing which is what I think it should be at that age. Been looking around all the local schools and I was hoping at least one wouldn't give homework out but they all give out at least spellings every week

I was told in Mothercare they don't need to move up to the next stage car seat until they are over the weight limit or the middle of their ear is above the top of the seat.

maxybrown · 10/12/2009 11:43

Doesn't bother me in the slightest, having worked in the environment and knowing what they do. BUT as I said, the school in Devon where I worked has no nursery so they start it all in Reception. The children who weren't able or ready were not pushed at all in any way. Plus they even out by year 1 anyway, regardless of what they have had in the past as those who are capable or interested can do it anyway. I think it just depends on the school tbh. Learning doesn't necc mean no playing. My Ds spent the morning with a plastic knife and a slice of bread, cutting it up - he loved it, kept him entertained and he learnt from it!! Anything they do should be through play anyway at that age and beyond - so even though they are "playing" they are learing. I'm not big into schools I have to say, just know that my DS needs more than just at home with me!! plus we can't afford any of the nurseries round here but Ds needs something, he will love it. I don't believe in homework particuarly though either! But some parents do NOTHING with their child at home sadly. My DH is a teacher, we have no hang ups about education, DH hardly ever went to school and stopped going when he was 14 I think. Just stopped, had no interest in it!! Ironically. He is very intelligent though as is his brother.
I wouldn't worry about the homework. Some schools have reading as their homework and not much else. Others have loads I know along with spellings. My nephew in yr6 has spellings and they make such a big issue out of it. Thing is, he gets them all right every week but cannot transfer them to his work - so for him it doesn't work anyway lol! Plus, he thinks spellings are a major bit of homework, god help him next year at his secondary school!!

nappyaddict · 10/12/2009 12:13

My sister is a reception teacher and she says that there is no point in just learning spellings like that and it's quite an old fashioned method. I don't want to do school work at home with my DS. He will go to school for that and he should be able to do other fun stuff at home which he will learn from as well. I don't mind reading books being sent home but I think that's all they should get. Again I don't mind learning through play as you can't stop that. DS' playgroup do very informal learning through singing and just explaining things to the children as they are playing which I agree with. For example they do songs about the days of the week and phonics. When playing they will say that's a red block or that's a green square or whatever. However some of the local nurseries go in for the whole teaching 3 year olds to read, write, add up etc and I just think it's too much too soon.

nicolamumof3wisemen · 10/12/2009 14:17

unfortunately nappy ime you are expected to do alot with your child at home even in \kS1 you get homework. i don't see anything wrong with it at all, it may be 10mins spelling, 15 mins a reading a night, not much really. It gets more and more and more as they go through school so in my eyes it is the beginnning of the end to carefree times in a way! All Tates learning is through play in preschool all of it. The desperately need it from about 3.5yr their brains are crying out for stimulation. But obviously all children are different. Tate loves listening to stories whereas luka's much more physical.

janxmas · 10/12/2009 14:23

Just got back from Frida's little school concert - reception/nursery all singing together - it was so sweet - had tears in my eyes.
Nappy - I don't find the wee bit of homework too much- Frida loves writing and reading and is so keen. It's all the rest of the paperwork that I find hard to keep on top of - plus we get text messages about this and that - school fayres and bloody raffle tickets. I got a text at 5am reminding me to buy tickets...funny enough I won a prize

maxybrown · 10/12/2009 14:29

lol Jan yes you're right, you can't avoid it!!
