New thread for buggy collectors! Grin

OP posts:
MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 10:49

Arrrgggghhh!!!! I need to get myself together and sell some of these pushchairs - and pay some of my CC bill off too! Blush
I wish there was one buggy that would do everything - the swift was close - but the seat was not quite tall enough (for ds to layback completely to sleep).
If I sold everything and just had a Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle - would this do? It has a large accessible basket - will be okay for train and outdoor stuff - fine for shopping too - and hopefully have a seat large enough for all activities (although DS won't be able to face me - however, I have realised now he is actually going to school next september!!!). The buggy needs to last until age 5+ due to huge amounts of walking involved in half days at school - distance from school - siblings to collect at end of day etc. DS needs to be able to lay back and sleep properly in it - without his head touching the seat back/top fabric in layback.
The BJ Summit is certainly big enough - but I find it a little too large (width of wheel base and length....So I'll need to compare those measurements too.
I'm also not so happy about Mountain Buggy Customer Service - which seems non-existant. Though I would probably buy from Boots.com again. As a member of the parenting club and using the 10% code and going through top cash back I ought to get a fair discount....
I would defo have to sell my lovely vista though - if going this route - but today I am feeling like we have far to many buggies - my husband would definately be happy if we only had the ONE that did for everything!

OP posts:
MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 10:58

DS seems to be growing FAST - and the nipper seat - while lovely in upright postition - is getting short for complete layback - his head is pushing hard against the rear hood fabric and twisting to one side when he sleeps...
I think I need to clean up the nipper and pass on to another family as it's going to be too small for proper sleeps from age 3.5 - 5+y.
The vista is working fine - but not really suited to going up and down flights of stairs loaded - due to where the frame folds not being so ridgid (like many other pushchairs including the baby jogger range).
I'm finding the BJCM hard to manouvre compared to the nipper/vista it's fine pushing along the flat - but with a pavement with a steep camber It's giving me arm strain keeping it straight - if I lock the front wheel I then have to push really hard on the handlebar really hard to lift the front wheel...It is okay as a light buggy but I don't particularly find it nice to push compared to some other buggies (though admittedly those buggies are not small or light!).
The maclarens are both going - for sure - the XLR is not ergonomically right for the way ds sits in it - and he can trail his shoes on the ground. The Candy one - will be put to one side until the UK market is out of stock then sold (as a ltd edition one of 100).
Would you sell the lot and see if you could manage with the MB urban jungle? Is this latest model good quality?
Should I find a second hand older one instead? (would have to use CC to buy if purchasing before selling the "fleet")....

Ahhhhhh! im so excited!! im going to the oxford pram center either tomorrow or tuesday!!!

MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 11:01

I had been considering the Bee+, but we won't manage in snow with it, or off-road really.....I also think it's hard to push empty as the front wheels waggle and "lock" in that situation - and as DS is walking as much as he can - so I do need to be able to push one-handed sometimes at speed!

OP posts:
MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 11:04

You lucky thing!
Wish I was going - do look at the Mountain Buggies for me Wink and waggle the back wheels - I'll not like it if those waggle - they have to stay true for me to like them! LOL
I hope the Verve is everything you wish for and is suited to your needs. Will you buy it there and then if it's "the one"?

OP posts:
FriggFRIGG · 25/08/2011 11:07

no i wont be buyingSad as the kobi has to go first, and i'll probably buy tiggys 2nd hand...Grin
what else should i look at whilst im there?
im going to look at the bee+ and the MB's....

MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 11:16

I am thinking I need to get some buggies listed for sale before I buy anything...
I am driving myself demented trying to think what to keep what to sell, and if I should replace the fleet with one thing or whether I already own one thing that will do?! I am being completely spoilt and ought to just get on with some housework! One thing for sure - stuff has to go on ebay to help my pay my bill fast - off to check TCB (top cash back) hoping I've some pennies in there to use! Blush

OP posts:
MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 11:17

Friggfrigg - will you be taking a tape measure and camera? Wink

OP posts:
suzie38 · 25/08/2011 11:26

Mp but will DS still be napping then...Most children stop around 3 years old...I'm hoping DD carries on until then but she can manage odd days without...I know i'll never be a 1 pushchair family...I love all 3 of my Bumblerides so they'll be here for the long haul...I'm still pondering on the Xari but will sell the Donkey if i get one, just need to get the split handle foam sorted out...Though there is a seller on eBay who's selling microfibre handle/bumper bar covers...I could easily sell the Orbit but i don't think i can given the hassle and cost it took to get over here, unless i could get full price for it and all it's accessories!!! Keeping the Nuna for DD to use with her toys when she's older as i loved playing with real ones...Keep thinking i should try and get cheap adapters and car seat for her to use with it...I'd have been in heaven with that set up!!! The 2 Citisports are for grandparents use and the Quest is at my parents as emergency should i forget the Citisport my dad loves.

MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 11:33

I think DS will still be napping.....he still sleeps 2 - 3 hours a day AND all night - and he will be exhausted after 5h at nursery I think and nap in the pram while I walk from the nursery to the school (miles apart) then home again - (A nice LOOOONG circular route...). Let me work out how many miles a day.....a mile and a half to the school from my house (to drop off older DC's), a mile and a half to nursery...half a mile home - then the same in reverse to collect them all again.... then I will have H hoping I will be scrubbing the house spotless and preparing homecooked foods in the 4 hours I have between my 8 miles of walking a day!!! (and I will eat cake to counteract the calorie loss no doubt or I will just collapse in an exhausted heap and watch telly between walks!) My Mother and my H have no sympathy at all - they are just smirking and saying It should help me loose weight (dress size 16)!!! Angry

YY tape measure and camera!Grin
and i have finally got a good offer for the Kobi, they want it posted(fair enough) but i also have someone interested who is just down the road,so i wouldnt have to package it all up etc...so im giving them till this evening to get back to me...

hopefully i wont get overexcited at the oxford pram centerBlush

monkey,im not sure, why wasnt the swift right?isnt it just a more compact version of the urban?and if you dont want compact, whats wrong with the BJCE?also if you sell the uppababy i dont think you'd find another rf that pushes well with a 3yr old in,if you decided you wanted one again....

(just playing devils advocate BTW...)

suzie38 · 25/08/2011 12:01

Wish i had a good excuse to walk a lot but i don't...As a nanny i walked for a couple of hours everyday while Sam napped in his pushchair, an unusual Ingelsina...I never did that with DD as i went back to work with her in tow, when she was 2 weeks old so she spent quite a bit of time napping in the car seat...At home she liked sleeping on me...Pushchairs really don't get used a lot which is a shame.

FriggFRIGG · 25/08/2011 12:10

we walk everywhere,at least a few hours a day normally,im actually realizing how much i rely on them because i dont really have one ATM....and ive been mostly in,or out and having a really tough time!

i really hope the verve is what i need because im really fed up with buying ans selling and i just want one that works for us,i cant think of a single other one (that i havent tried already) that would fit the bill.
i think i will want a small single though,either a BJCM or bee+....

MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 12:26

I have the BJ summit XC (quite a bit bigger than the elite I think), I think I might actually keep this and sell the nipper now.

The seat in the Swift wouldn't have been tall enough for full recline in the long run - it was fine upright - but his head was not far from the seat top - touching the fabric that joins seat top to hood already. I was hoping the Urban Jungle seat was taller than the swift seat by a few inches. The Urban jungle is obv bigger than the swift but smaller than my BJ Summit XC - also the Urban Jungle frame is stronger by design I think - esp for bumping up and down steps. (the BJ's flex from the hinges if you pull them up and down stairs loaded which doesn't feel good to me!). The swift I had was returned to seller due to lock spring becoming faulty and then MB not honouring the warranty (by ignoring my requests to get it repaired).

So while I am interesed in the Urban Jungle as the design looks fab - I have my reservations about customer service should it be needed (or lack of).

Think I'll keep the Vista - it's just so nice and useful for having ds RF for the moment. I would miss it v much as it's so practical for carrying the school bags/lunch boxes and also grocery shopping (all of which is done on foot with me to carry it!).

For now I'll keep the BJCM as it's the only compact that has enough carry space aboard for my addidtional carrying needs for the whole family (drinks/coats) and it folds conveniently and compactly - plus I think it's beautiful (really do love that purple)..I'll have to put up with the fact it doesn't manouvre quite so well as the vista/nipper.

Out of the off-roaders - I think the summit may have to stay in place of the nipper - even though the nipper is lighter and manoeuvres better - because he is growing out of the "sleeping area" of the nipper. He will not outgrow the summit xc before I'm done with it.

Ummmm, so that's 3 buggies for keeping - 3 to sell (none worth lots of cash - but a start to help with the cc bill!).

I could look at getting the Elite instead of the huge summit xc - but the frame will still flex in the middle on stairs....maybe I should put him in a sling on my back and pull the empty pram up and down the stairs to reduce strain on it. I am not willing to carry him in a sling all day - nor would I manange a picnic/coats/suncream/plasters/drinks for FOUR while carrying a tired 3y old on my back - the buggy is necessary if we're off out for the day with me being the only adult to actually do the most of the carrying. The kids will help with their stuff - but it's just more practical to take a buggy for the next couple of years at least!

The summit does have in it's favour brilliant suspension and a handbrake and it's awesome in snow (not that we have a lot of that!).

Friggfrigg - so pleased you have offers on your lovely Kobi already - that is brilliant news! Hope it sells before your trip to Oxford Pram Center. Grin

Apparently there's been an issue with paint scratching easily on some of the new all black bees. Not all, just some - but hearsay is that Bugaboo are saying this is not a fault and won't replace....Hmm Which kind of put me off bugaboo stuff again....
I also found the harness small on the bugaboo bee I remembered. The harness on the BJCM is nicer to use and has loads of room to grow in it. The BJCM feels less delicate. The Bee is nicer to push loaded. The bee is hard to push empty as the wheels waggle and stop it (unless the basket is full). When the Bee seat is FF the basket is quite hard to access. You can't hang shopping off the bee handlebar really...well it's possible but feels like it's straining the frame. I daren't!
You can hang shed-loads on the BJCM handlebar and it won't feel as though it's straining anything.
It's harder to get the BJCM up a kerb than the bee. The BJCM folds more compact than the Bee.
I'm going to take the BJCM out again - and take off the "sit up" straps and see if that improves manouverability. It was easier to push when he was sleeping laid-back. DS won't be fussed about being completely upright anyway - he's getting plenty of time running around and walking (on reins) so is only in the buggy when tired or needing a nap.

Monkeys - I have my Duet and the quality is not good at all....I am very disappointed by what is a relatively expensive, supposedly good name brand. I have a couple of faults, and some others I know of have a tear in the fabric and a rip in the handlebar. Mine has bits on show which shouldn't be, and it doesn't lock open without a lot of weight on it so is unsafe. It just feels cheap as well - no visible padding in the seats, plastic footrest (but not like the nice thick rounded one of say the Elite) and the fabric bunches up behind the child when you bring them up from a recline. Even where the poppers have been fixed on has left ugly stitching on the fabric. Honestly....I really am shocked. Other parts haven't been thought out either.

The Urban Jungle is a much bigger pushchair than the Swift...its quite a chunk! But I wouldn't buy one without having a really really close look at it first. Not to mention I dont think there are any due in the UK for some time - see MBs FB page for the dates.

I am gobsmacked that you STILL havent had a response from Out n About re the Swift.....that time frame is unacceptable.

MonkeysPunk · 25/08/2011 13:49

Boots have the MB Urban Jungle in stock - in Black and Red - but as you say I'd better not buy without viewing IRL first...I like the design of the urban jungle, there are a lot of nice features but unless it's going to be really good quality I may avoid. I had noticed the wheels on the swift did this a little /----\ only a little but I don't like rear wheels to do this at all it's my pet hate! LOL
I will loose money on the summit XC - so may aswell stick with my choice as it has plenty of growing room and v nice features like the all wheel suspension and handbrake. it's just a bit big if you going into crowded places or shops - but I have other buggies for that!

I am sorry your duet isn't all you'd hoped for - will you return it? That is disappointing after such a long wait. :(

OP posts:
Tiggywunkle · 25/08/2011 14:35

I am going to give it a good try out and see if a couple of open and shuts will do anything to make the catch click into place. I have no idea re other bits. My retailer is aware but there are no more due for another month so it's not like I could get a swap...if I could, it would be going back.

Tiggywunkle · 25/08/2011 14:36

At least with Boots you can always return it :)

FriggFRIGG · 25/08/2011 14:39

im still so shocked at the MB cock-ups of late....too many to risk it with the +one for me.

Tiggywunkle · 25/08/2011 14:56

The +one has been delayed now as well - something about needing to get all the safety certification. It's on their FB page.

FriggFRIGG · 25/08/2011 15:09

I saw, its just ridiculous.

the people who have ordered them must feel so let down.

Honeydragon · 25/08/2011 15:26

.....erm bjcm take it no good for snow?

Was thinking about may be getting one and possible selling the bee+ whilst the warrenty is still on it?

suzie38 · 25/08/2011 15:39

The warrenty can't be swapped to the new buyer though.
