I moved into my new house about 2 months ago and the sellers keep ringing me. First I had to arrange for collection of items that they said the delivery company left. Now a parcel turned up and they asked me to forward it on which I've done. But now it continues, there are items they think they left in the house that they want and also a shelving unit that's screwed to the wall. Where does it end.

I would send them one message and then block. I would also change the locks as they are likely to turn up if they feel strongly enough about it and the chances of them having a key are pretty high I imagine. If it's just a barrel change, it's not expensive.

In that case, get in touch with the estate agent as they will know what to do.

One thing to keep in mind is that mail redirection doesn’t always work. We’re renting out our property and set up a Royal Mail redirection, but somehow the tenants still receive some of our mail. I have no idea why, but it’s so frustrating.

We are selling a house that we had as a buy to let and we were in it for the first time in 10 years yesterday as the buyer asked to get in to take measurements so that she can order items for the work she intends to do on it. It was managed by a letting agent and the viewings for the sale were handled by the estate agent.
There was a pile of mail behind the door for the last tenant and some of it looks like debt collector letters. There was also a letter for the person we bought from at the beginning of 2016; previous tenants had obviously not bothered returning items to sender! I brought it all home and it will go in a post box tomorrow to be returned to senders.

I cant believe they are even thinking about these things after they have moved on.

After one house sale I did have to go back and collect some stuff. We had paid the movers to pack for us and I obviously didn't do a thorough enough check after they had finished because they missed one drawer in the kitchen. The evening of the move DH and I tried to cook dinner and couldn't find knives or spatulas. We looked in all the 'kitchen' boxes and then decided that they might be in one of the other boxes, so we ordered takeaway. The next day the new owner phone to say that she had found my drawer full of kitchen stuff, so I went over to pick it up that evening.

We've used re-direction multiple of times.

It will only redirect the exact name/s you stipulate, So 'Mr Richard Smith, 12 Burns Ave'. It won't redirect if its just '12 Burns Ave' and no name or someone has a nick name 'Dick Smith, 12 Burns Ave'.

DH used to have a company name and due to him only having a mobile still in that name, we forgot to get it redirected.

We've been in this house for 13 years and for the first 10 we got mail from just one source. I forwarded it, always with a note on the back saying "Belle, you really need to give these people your new address." Finally I accidentally (truly!) opened it among a pile of stuff and it was a dividend cheque. At this point I just thought "silly woman" and cashed it - no, I rang up the company and explained the problem. I told them I had her new address, her email and her mobile number, but they couldn't accept that from me, only from her. I have absolutely no idea (and even less interest in) what happened.

Could've been worse...the day after we moved in here we got a text message from the previous owner asking if we could please send her the contents of her knicker drawer (which was in a built-in wardrobe), which she'd forgotten to pack! 😂

They should not have left anything at all on the house. Anything still there is now yours.

Why didn't you phone her if you had her mobile or send it to her new address?

We sold our house almost 3 YEARS ago. Lovely family bought it but 2 years on and they (he) was still texting about stuff. My DH was too nice but one text from me and not heard anything since 😂

Nope don't entertain. My first flat seller got various parcels delivered then turned up to collect and ask for things they left. I told them parcels had been returned and room they wanted in was under renovation. Same thing happened at my new house I might seem harsh but people have no incentive to get organised and update their address if you continue allowing it funnily enough neither did it again after they were inconvenienced.

Just a heads up that I had debt collection letters arriving for someone who used to live with me. I returned them all and wrote “not known at this address” but it still got to the stage of a hand-delivered bailiff letter. I’m not sure returning to sender works for debt collection – I suppose because the person the letter is addressed to could just send them all back and pretend they don’t live there

Well, surely from the moment you got the keys the home and everything in it was now legally yours? So, if it doesn’t bother you and you feel it reasonable you can oblige them. But as it’s now it’s a pest and bothering you so you have every right to just block and ignore them, tough luck.
If they come to knock don’t answer if you don’t want to, what can they do? They’ll get bored and leave.

They should have discussed this sort of thing first, ours wanted stuff I'd have called fixtures and fittings, but as they said before we moved in, fair enough. The previous but one owner still gets mail sent here (they must have moved out at least a decade ago, I'd say a few months is the most grace they should expect) but I just put Not At This Address and put it back in the post box.

That’s pretty normal. Did the Bailiff just ask for proof that they no longer lived there?

Why do they have your number?

You own the house and anything in it so all these items no longer belong to them. Block their number. They are absolute piss takers getting you to forward stuff on and facilitate the return of a fridge and hoover.

I wouldn’t give a buyer/seller my personal number.

Just block them.

Because, as stated in my post, I had been doing that (twice a year) for 10 years.

That would be a jog right off from me and blocked.

Tell them no. If something is screwed to the wall it’s a fixture/fitting and unless they specifically excluded it on the form it remains. Refuse any deliveries for them, and if something slips through they can collect it.

Nope they should have taken everything with them, thrown away everything they didn't want (unless they had specifically offered it to you and you wanted it), and done a change of address for the post office. I may need to contact the new owners of my parents' house because some how the ownership of the solar electric feed in tariff, didn't change with the electric bill change, but that is a problem caused by the company, not just me forgetting something important.
