A thread to share the things big and small that you've started, finished, planned or conceptualised.

Inspired by the lovely posters on the What have you done in the garden today threads.

@Agapornis I mentioned the wall lights this morning. I said “so I turn all the lights on, and then start stabbing at it with a screwdriver, right? And lick it to check which wire is live?” He assures me he will come and do it.

A sterling bit of strategic incompetence, well done Grin

TeamToeBeans · 09/02/2026 19:23

Luckily he knows I’m joking! But I’m going to look at some YouTube videos and try and figure it out. If I can build up courage before he gets to it, I’ll try and do it.

I finally finished painting all thirty small panes of the last kitchen window yesterday, then removed all the frog tape...phew!

Took a break from DIY today and made more cushions for the snug sofa (central cushion plus those at each end).....

Filled, caulked and sanded eleventy million cracks and holes. Second coat on the wardrobes and most of the second coat on the walls. I had to stop to pick up kids. One more day should do it then I can empty and move the bed. After that need to do the wall behind the bed.
It’s starting to look good though…. Might head to Ikea tomorrow to pick up a rug and some cushion covers.

I think you deserve a nice cuppa after all this

No DIY today, but planning a trip to IKEA at the weekend if that counts 😬

placemats · 13/02/2026 19:42

I assembled a coffee table and made an order for IKEA to arrive next week. Trip to the recycling centre booked for tomorrow. Then fill the green bin - green garden waste in my area.

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 13/02/2026 20:23

Ooo did you order anything fancy? Im getting DS the trofast shelves and I've seen a "hack" with a slide bolted to them that he'd love in his sensory corner. Planning on bolting to the walls and adding some netting sides to it.

Sanding filling and painting!!! 🥳 After putting it off for a long time 😂

Just things for the bathroom. Two slim cupboards, two towel rails and two cabinets.

My son and I put together his bamboo sliding wardrobe a couple of months ago. However I did get someone in to put up the very tall pax wardrobes.

Prepped and started painting the woodwork on the upstairs landing today. Walls and ceiling for landing and staircase were finished earlier in the week.

troppibambini6 · 14/02/2026 18:36

I’ve finished decorating my bedroom! Finally 🤣
I still need to hang some pictures, change some bulbs, change the window handles and clean the windows and do some organising of my make up and things into the new storage I’ve bought but I’m nearly there.
Next project is repainting the skirting boards ready for the new carpet. The got a bit battered when the old laminate was removed.

DameProfessorIDareSay · 15/02/2026 10:34

I’m slightly hampered by an injury at the moment but fit enough to supervise 😉

DH has put up the new blinds we ordered for the upstairs windows and they look so much better. Much neater and matching from the outside and a far better fit inside that will keep out the sunshine in the very early morning (if we ever get sunshine again).

Positivepositron · 20/02/2026 16:57

Painted two areas of the house that seem to suffer from peeling paint with damp seal.
And did some sanding of the stairs that I undercoated a few weeks ago. Hopefully get back on track on the DIY after a couple of weeks of not doing any.

WindyW · 22/02/2026 15:57

New blinds up too! Another set ordered. Plus the rooms emptied for the floor to start being fitted 😀

LibertyLily · 23/02/2026 16:46

Not much done last week, except fitted new pan drawer solid brass knobs. Lots of filling and painting done in the dining room over the weekend whilst DH was working on the garage conversion. Today he's been off and as I wasn't confident about hanging a set of twelve Oka prints evenly in said space, he offered to do it and - despite our wonky walls - they look amazing 😍

Agapornis · 02/03/2026 09:59

I removed an air lock by shoving garden hose up the cold bathroom tap, after the wet vacuum method failed.

Finally finished painting the kitchen (started in December). The splashback is now red rather than blue, it looks a lot more inviting.

Next step will be to hang the wooden wall mounted plate/dishes rack I found in the street. It was really filthy but it's come up very nicely after much scouring and a bit of sanding.

Has he come over to fix the light yet?

Ohcrap082024 · 02/03/2026 12:52

Had a very productive weekend as DH, DS and Ddog were away. Managed to get loads of jobs done that I can’t do easily when pups is here.

Finished painting the stairwell and hall. Walls and woodwork. One door waxed another to do. Handrail repainted. 3 blinds replaced. Hall, stairs and landing finally finished (apart from rehanging all the photo frames and replacing carpet). Inside of front door repainted.

All the laminate floor downstairs cleaned within an inch of its life then 2 coats of polish solution. It looks so much better.

This week will be all about the garden as the weather is looking good.

Liquoricethyme · 02/03/2026 16:51

Not sure if this is better in gardening or here!

We have taken many many days to clear the top corner of the allotment of bramble , broken glass, carpet, and general crap from the allotment. I think it was 12 car loads to the tip. Then a weekend to dig it out, another weekend to put grids down and level it with pea gravel. Another weekend to put level slabs on and then a weekend to actually put it up…… but we have a SHED in the top corner of the allotment. This was our Christmas present to each other. Today we put the roof on, a handle inside and out, and did the first two coats of paint inside and out. Tomorrow if the weather holds we have two more coats to go on. Feeling very very pleased. It only took myself and DH, 4 hours plus to paint it inside and out although we happily we listening to our audio book for book club. The colour well we got the paint for £4 a tin in December and the shed was in storage whilst we did all the ground works but it all looks good. We feel shattered though!

Oh that's fantastic. Gardening is DIY. My sister spent £14,000 on her garden.

Agapornis · 03/03/2026 23:36

The plate rack is up! I'm very happy to no longer have a dingy dish rack taking up counter space. Found it on the street so that makes it even better.

@Liquoricethyme looks great, and £4 paint, bargain! There's a paint recycling shop near me charging similar prices, and whenever they have a nice colour I'm always tempted to start yet another DIY project.

@placemats £14k on DIY gardening?! Did she pay contractors to do the expensive things, or did she buy a very mature tree? 😁

I think both gardening and DIY can be as expensive as you want it to be. Not talking about proper stuff of course - I need new patio doors and a downstairs loo refurb, and I'm dreading both. I look at fun DIY social media a fair bit, but they never talk about the shit bits.
