reminding myself of the headache that comes with moving

6 months (and there were only 3 in the chain). However, the sellers didn't really get a move on until after Christmas.

Fibrous · 11/04/2026 20:19

Okay thanks @Singleoldermum - that's not too bad considering the sellers were slow. There's four in our chain and my vendors are the slow ones, but it's an empty property, so hopefully once they've sent the paperwork it will move along more quickly.

DoubleShotEspressox · 17/04/2026 16:05

@Growlybear83That is insane!!!!! How can people honestly think it’s ok to behave like this.

DoubleShotEspressox · 17/04/2026 16:06

@SingleoldermumCongratulations!!!!

DoubleShotEspressox · 17/04/2026 16:10

I’m so completely over ours already. Been three months under offer and basically no further ahead.

Absolutely lost my shit at our solicitors last week - our conveyancer who turns out isn’t even qualified was too busy posting shit online about how much she hates her job to do any progressing. Six weeks lost while she did nothing.

Funnily enough after pointing that out, our searches got raised and enquiries began the same day.

Estate agent just constantly telling me we are on track for June but the chain isn’t closed off and just getting longer. About seven of us now.

I mean come on, what are the actual chances of this not collapsing. Slim to none.

And our buyer can’t leave me alone because she wanted to move in yesterday (FTB) seems to think I can wave a magic wand and make this happen overnight.

I just want to move 😭

rootsandwings89 · 17/04/2026 17:25

We’ve had our house on the market for a month now and have had 1 viewing! That’s it! It’s so dis-heartening, I thought our house would sell quickly.

Our estate agents saying it’s like this everywhere - anyone else in the same boat?

Gonefishingithink · 17/04/2026 17:30

Six or seven viewings for us. One not even on the market. One offer below the valuation. It’s so depressing. On the market for nearly a month.

rootsandwings89 · 17/04/2026 17:34

We’ve seen a house that’s perfect for us and I’m so frustrated that we can’t put an offer down because ours isn’t getting any interest.

Sortis · 17/04/2026 18:37

I had two viewings and two offers over the asking price. I accepted one of them and stopped doing viewings. Who knows if any would have come?

My estate agent is rubbish. At literally every stage she has lied/been mistaken. I can't believe I'm pussy-footing around her (lest she stop taking my calls) and paying £1800 for the privilege.

Singleoldermum · 17/04/2026 18:40

Completed today 😁😁😁🪴🏠

I've been over to the house, though not moving in today. Waiting until the decorator has been in, whilst it's still empty to go through and then I'll get curtain poles up etc.

I'm in the fortunate position that I don't need to move everything all in one go. I'm renting out my previous home, so all my belongings are in storage since the tenants moved in. I can bring things across a car load at a time and get settled in slowly.

Currently sat drinking bubbles to celebrate the new start. It's terrifying though at the same time!

forgetmeknotsareblue · 17/04/2026 19:04

Been on the market 4 weeks, had 6 viewings so far. 2 more tomorrow. Feedback so far is that the garden is too small (not much I can do about that). Seen a house we love but obviously won’t accept an offer without us having one.

anyone else think some viewers are just complete time wasters? Someone told me they’d viewed 30 houses! Who has the time to do that.

Sortis · 17/04/2026 19:49

Congratulations @Singleoldermum !

mrssunshinexxx · 18/04/2026 19:45

@DoubleShotEspressox why is your buyer in contact with you? It going through isn’t impossible but completion in June without a closed chain and 7 of you already is unlikely. Moving is so stressful

I viewed a lot before I made a decision.

It took seeing a few before I realised which of my criteria I was prepared to compromise on and which were hard no's.

I did do drive-bys on a few of those I'd seen on Rightmove and decided it wasn't worth a visit, but sometimes on paper the house was fine, but I just couldn't see myself living there, or the photos looked much better than the reality.

It's like online dating for house-buyers 😂

Just keep looking at some until you find the house that fits.

DoubleShotEspressox · 19/04/2026 11:01

@mrssunshinexxx Oh it’s a weird situation - we are selling a lease and the managing agent doesn’t do any admin themselves so anyone who wanted a viewing had to contact us directly.

So since she’s got my number she’s basically pestering for twice weekly updates.

I get it, we all wana go asap but I can’t control the end of the chain.

I said that I didn’t mind how long it took because the longer it took the more money we will have in the pot but honestly I already feel like it will never happen. Someone is going to drop out or mess up before this completes.

My main concern is our mortgage offer expiring and then we will get shafted with a ridiculous rate six months down the line. We already can just about afford it.

We had some total time wasters view our house who had viewed about thirty houses. We’re semi rural so they must’ve viewed every property on the market. They asked the most ridiculous questions (where are all the shops? Did they even look at the map) and where were they going to park their long wheel base transit van (we have a terraced cottage with on street parking on a road built for horses and carts). Three hours of cleaning for that nonsense.

Just coming on here to give hope to those who are struggling with chains etc. We exchanged last week after taking a year off from buying/selling in 2025 as we had such a stressful time in 2024 when we were in a chain that collapsed just before Christmas when we'd been due to move in early January. I posted on here about it at the time. The house we lost was our dream house and we were devastated, especially as we'd lost and got back the house twice during the time before the chain firmed up.

Anyway, we are due to complete at the end of April on a house we love much more and which will suit us much better. The process has been relatively straightforward so far and, fingers crossed, we will be in the new house in just over a week, hopefully.

Congratulations and thanks for your story, glad it finally worked out for you! We are in round 2 after our first chain collapsed last November, we were originally supposed to be moving in January too! Second chain is much shorter, we have a first time buyer and all looks like it’s going to work out hopefully. I’m looking forward to being able to write a post like yours soon! Hope the move goes well and you enjoy your new home.

I feel your pain. We have had some very odd people view too. I don’t think the EA are asking very good questions to screen the time wasters.

Thank you. Isn’t it just so horribly stressful? There must be a better way. I’m so glad things are looking positive for you too. Keeping everything crossed for you and will keep an eye out for your update. 😊

Hi all, I hope you don't mind if I join from Scotland. We have been looking for somewhere for about a year, not fervently but hopefully. Didn't put our house on the market first as we are in a fast-moving area and looking to buy in a slow-moving area. Finally, we found something we liked, viewed it, loved it. It went to closing date and we got it! Within less than 4 weeks, we put our house on the market, did all our mortgage porting paperwork and ID stuff, had builders out with a drone to survey the roof of the property we're buying and we are ready to move next month. We have a cash buyer of our house, who has accepted our proposed date of entry. Then, today the seller's solicitor emails that the sellers aren't really intending to move until perhaps late July - two and a half months after our proposed moving date! Our solicitor has pushed back and now we're just waiting and trying not to overthink. We are hopefully moving to a little Scottish island!

How can anyone even have 30 houses for sale in their criteria in their area!

I had quite a wide search area due to WFH, so basically within a half hour drive of a particular place.

It also took looking at a few houses before figuring out which were my non-negotiable criteria and which were my could reconsider if everything else is good. A lot of houses then got ruled out purely for not having a garage (a non-negotiable for me).

Yeah I find now you can rule out a lot online and you’re non negotiables. And then you’ve got google street view etc
