…..anywhere in the country, where would you buy? It’s not a lot but it’s an opportunity I have been given, but I have no idea. Where would you buy?

Is this 60k total or 60k deposit?

Olive567 · 05/11/2025 20:05

Not enough info, how big a mortgage are you able to get?

Foresthealing · 05/11/2025 20:06

Well firstly that’s not enough to buy a property but it is a good amount to get a property with but you’d look at a mortgage and use the 60K for a deposit.

You could look at a 200K property and put down 40K on deposit and keep 20K for legal fees and doing the house up

BuffaloCauliflower · 05/11/2025 20:06

Is there anywhere you can buy a property for £60,000 now?

Justmuddlingalong · 05/11/2025 20:06

Is it to live in or rent out?

Favouritefruits · 05/11/2025 20:06

Is that the total? Or deposit? If it’s a deposit I’d quite fancy Chester or York! If it’s the full amount I’d doubt you’d get better than Jaywick!

blublub · 05/11/2025 20:06

£60,000 cash. Not interested in a mortgage.

Well that really restricts you as assume you’re not factoring in any renovation costs. So I’d get on Rightmove and use their search where you see where you can afford to buy what you want and cross your fingers.

Justmuddlingalong · 05/11/2025 20:08

A family member just sold a 1 bedroom downstairs flat for just under your budget.
Fife on the east coast of Scotland.

Favouritefruits · 05/11/2025 20:08

I’m surprised you can get anything but a Quick Look and there’s an ok flat in lytham st Anne’s, that’s quite a nice place to live and it’s by the sea!

Is this because you’ve been given some money to invest? What’s the objective?

It’s not enough to buy a property IMO.

Florencesndzebedee · 05/11/2025 20:11

Probably quite a few inner city areas might have a cheap 1 bed flat for that but I doubt the area would be very nice. Maybe try Scotland, West Midlands, some parts of Leeds or Bradford.

Kendodd · 05/11/2025 20:11

Have you missed a '0' OP?

Olive567 · 05/11/2025 20:11

Try coastal towns around the UK.

Hedjwitch · 05/11/2025 20:11

Flat below us just went for £60K. Two bedrooms, quiet area.

You could get a lot more for your money by buying in France.

NotQuiteUsual · 05/11/2025 20:13

So this exact scenario happened to us basically. We bought in Ashington Northumberland so we could be mortgage free. Love it here

Parts of Scotland?

People posting links to properties going for auction need to remember what is listed is just a starting price and that they will usually require renovation.

Olive567 · 05/11/2025 20:19

Ah yes just spotted the one I listed was an auction property.

Lincolnshire has very good value property.

Geranium879 · 05/11/2025 20:20

HushTheNoise · 05/11/2025 20:22

Of course it's enough to buy a property. Look on Rightmove move in Falkirk area and surrounds, several below that price.
