Yellow bathroom suite yay or nay?

Got a beautiful primrose yellow bathroom suite in great condition, the bath stays hot for hours as it's metal. Very solid stuff from the 60s/70s.

I'm updating the bathroom around it, but tradesman reckons the house won't sell as well unless I replace the suite with a modern white one.

Is he right? Is there really no place for a retro suite with buyers nowadays? I love it and am gutted we'll be leaving it behind at some point tbh.

Embrace it. There’s loads of ideas on Pinterest. They are worth money round where I live. Seriously much better made than modern cheap suites. Ignore the plumber.

mamagogo1 · 15/10/2025 07:11

No, horrible. White is the only colour that is ok

Stardust286 · 15/10/2025 07:12

Leave it. A buyer might love it as much as you do

Lennonjingles · 15/10/2025 07:22

When we sold my late in laws house, it had a dated pink bathroom, we were going to replace the suite, as DH is a bathroom installler, but the estate agent said not to, because buyers would rather buy a house cheaper with work to do in the future, than a dearer house with nothing to do. We sold for asking price, first viewers to first time older buyers.

I think it's lovely but I'd highlight it with bright white tiles and accessories.

This.

I think the retro set would work fine if the rest of the bathroom was styled appropriately. So bright white tiles with a yellow bath etc may look pretty cool.

But then if you are planning on spending the money doing that in order to make it saleable you may as well replace it with a white suite.

Love the PPs idea of storing it for yourself for future use if you love it that much.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 15/10/2025 07:49

Keep it. If the new owners don't like it then they get to choose something they do like. You may pick a white set they don't like. So this on is good quality. If you are swapping and moving soon you'll get the cheapest....

Seaitoverthere · 15/10/2025 07:50

I’d leave it as something for people to change but I would get rid of the grey toilet seat and replace with white (would say black but it is a small space) Paint the bath panel and wood on wall white, white slatted blind on window and some black and white tile effect Lino for the floor.

Just so it looks a bit fresher and buyers can decide what to do with it. It will put some off bit equally a cheap quickly done bathroom may. Neither would put me off house buyers can be a strange bunch.

Saw this on Rightmove 😳

Haha that's fabulous! Not even joking 😀

DierdreDaphne · 15/10/2025 07:56

It's crying out for a yellow suite though!

vetprob · 14/10/2025 19:50

Really?

Surely there is space in the market for non white?

Once it's gone it's gone forever.

I don't know about others but I really dislike seeing a lovely old home on rightmove to then look at the internal shots to find it's all been made open plan and modern inside.

I don't want to buy a house like that personally. I can't be the only one!

Leave it but use a lighter wood loo seat and bath panelling, more scandi pintrest than retro then.

Supperlite · 15/10/2025 08:06

Take it with you!! Otherwise a blue like this (found this image on Google) would be lovely. Sadly I don’t think the grey works (but that is just me!). I don’t think it will be an issue to a protective buyer though to be honest.

diddl · 15/10/2025 08:59

I think it would still be lovely if not for the bath panel & toilet seat & lid.

Most people will change it because of those I would think.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 15/10/2025 09:04

I love it, and it would be a bonus for me.
replace the grey seat and bath panel though - do the panel the same colour as the walls, I have no idea about the loo seat though!

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 15/10/2025 09:15

I love the yellow suite but I’d maybe go crackers with colour elsewhere and have something like bright pink seat and floor. Is that brown carpet tiles currently?

Blarn · 15/10/2025 09:16

I'd keep it but not with the grey, you need to brighten it up a bit. The grey is making it look dated rather than retro I'm afraid. I'd go with a white wooden loo seat and you might be able to paint just the lid to match. Then

I would love an aqua bathroom suite nd then go with colour to compliment it.

80smonster · 15/10/2025 09:21

Don’t like yellow and grey. The yellow would look nice with pink or blue pastel tiles, you’ve kind of got to go for it if you want to pull off a colourful bathrooom. As a PP said, a checker floor would work well in this retro scheme.

diddl · 15/10/2025 09:24

So are the bath panel, toilet seat & lid & flooring part of your "upgrade" or are they what you are looking to change?

Lilington · 15/10/2025 09:28

It is very much a marmite issue and you would appeal to more buyers if you removed it.

Personally it would put me off because I couldn’t live with it and then it would be the disruption of replacing it.
Whilst cost can be offset in the house price some people, like me, won’t want the noise, mess and inconvenience of having tradesmen in.

I removed an orange bathroom suite at a previous home. It was a bloody nightmare dealing with all the brown tiles around it which then pulled the plaster off the walls. Never again!

RinklyRomaine · 15/10/2025 09:51

I would keep it but replace all the dark with white and a colour match. The grey just looks dingy. White seat, lid and bath panel, white tiles and a beautiful delicate primrose and white wallpaper. And plants. Be lovely.

Well yeah, but you’ll probably be limiting your pool of potential buyers. So it’s up to you. If you’re in no hurry to sell and have the time to wait for someone who will like the yellow suite (or have the funds to rip out and replace when they move in) then leave it.

Blarn · 15/10/2025 09:56

If you do get rid of it, don't shove it in a skip. There are companies that sell on vintage suites.

housethatbuiltme · 15/10/2025 09:58

maximalism is in fashion so colours do sell right now, its not the magnolia, brilliant white or greige of the past.

I'm not personally a fan of yellow, its probably my least favorite choice but in general I love a coloured bathroom... sky blue would probably be my choice but I grew up with the dusky pink bathroom (complete with carpet lol). I think colours add so much character.

Im not sure what colour would look good with yellow (definately not grey) but my first thought was a sage green... like very light and summer-y, a bit cottage-core-ish. Just because yellow makes me think sun flowers and daffodils.

THANK YOU @MelOfTheRoses I replaced the old brown wooden seat with grey as it seems the best colour to complement yellow and I doubt I'll find a yellow seat to match.

Keep the primrose yellow suite!

How about a new clear resin seat with flowers trapped inside?

Namechangedasouting987 · 15/10/2025 10:03

These suites are such good quality. Generous basins, toilets that have a decent flush, v comfy baths that retain the heat.
Chicken tiles are iconic!
Grew up with pink suites and pink chicken tiles.
I'd take it with me and put a cheap crap white suite in that everyone goes for...

DramaAlpaca · 15/10/2025 10:05

Ooh, it's lovely! I'd buy the house for the primrose yellow bathroom alone, complete with the yellow chicken tiles. I grew up with the blue version of them.
