House for sale: struggling to see the bones of it!

I might be interested in this house but I am struggling to "see past" the current owner's decor! Also what would it cost to repaint all those external walls?

Looks nice! Rooms look a little small but presuming that’s pretty standard for these types of houses? Look at the floor plan - that’s your best bet for seeing past the decor. Look past the funky furniture, that will be gone when you move in. I would just white wash it then decide what to do with it. I think the outside is lovely and cheery!

The bones of it are just like every other standard Victorian terrace, you could paint the window frames and the railings another colour instead of the render to calm down the Mr Blobby vibe.

or just add yellow spots Grin

NewsdeskJC · 04/08/2025 16:04

External wall repaint not the issue. Its got bright yellow upvc windows.

I think I've been to a party in that house!

It must have been a bloody good party if you're not sure 🤣⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tootsiroll · 04/08/2025 16:23

Oh my goodness I love it. I mean it's not to my taste what so ever but the owner had a vision and has gone for it. Not sure I'd want an image of the Pope blessing me as I sit on the loo but.....Wow.

Either way, most of that colour and noise is just their stuff, everything else can just be painted over.

I wonder, does the owner own Blackout too?

OP, the bones are great. Once all the stuff is moved out, it's pretty much a blank canvas. Surprised you can't see this.

While it's not to my taste, I would totally take this house (and decor) over the usual hideous grey interiors.

I would have a good look at the paint on the window frames and all
internal woodwork. Paint on walls is easy to cover. Layers of gloss, not so much.

Apart from that, it has loads of potential.

Washingupdone · 05/08/2025 13:36

Nothing wrong with the house except for the kitchen, that needs further investigation. Is it a proper building or a re-enforced out building.

Lunaballoon · 05/08/2025 13:42

Blimey! The “quirkiness” even extends to the yellow fences outside 😳

Indicateyourintentions · 05/08/2025 13:47

It’s 100 square meters in central Brighton. Get the survey done and go from there. The rest is just trivia.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 05/08/2025 13:54

Most of the walls are white with the odd pink feature wall. It’s mainly their furniture which is adding the colour. Remove that and it’ll be so different.

outdooryone · 05/08/2025 14:04

That is a great house.
I once moved in to an 'untouched since 1963 when the current owner bought it' Victorian terrace. Bakerlite switches, layers of wallpaper and LOUD carpets....Not as in your face as that property OP, but none the less full 1960's and 1970's colour and patterns (blue bathroom suite included).

The day I moved it I basically got a bunch of mates to pull up the carpets (they smelled...) and helped me put white paint on every wall surface possible in every room. It meant that I could live in it for a year without getting dizzy and slowly renovate and decorate each room. While white was bland, it helped show the different light levels, showed damage to walls etc. It was actually a really nice way of renovating as I 'got to know' the house - and ended up with the kitchen in a different room so I could get sunsets over the garden from the dining table.

Outside - I think you could paint the windows and railings white and it would look good.

The worst thing about this place is someone paid a similar price 1 year ago for a similar place on the same road that was very tastefully decorated.

£625k sold last year was bigger attic conversion as it included rear annex too.

This one is same size as sold one for £585k. In this colourful house they've made front bedroom much smaller by using section of it for bathroom and converted what is usually bathroom into a bedroom

crossstitchingnana · 05/08/2025 15:59

Only come on here to say, I took one look at the first photo and just knew it was Hanover in Brighton.

Theyreeatingthedogs · 05/08/2025 16:12

Bit drab, but I'm sure you can brighten it up with some paint.

zingally · 05/08/2025 16:25

I think it's fantastic! Yes, it's a bit hard to see past all the kitsch "tat", but I love the fun-coloured walls!!

Spanglemum02 · 05/08/2025 16:48

I knew that would be in Brighton. I know where that road is.

sodabreadjam · 05/08/2025 23:12

Wish it would feature on "Can't Sell Must Sell" so we could see the owners and watch as they listened to critiques from estate agents and house hunters.

Agree that it would be easy to fix or see past the decor and will probably sell anyway.

TimeForATerf · 06/08/2025 06:57

Bathroom’s nice.
