House for sale: struggling to see the bones of it!

I might be interested in this house but I am struggling to "see past" the current owner's decor! Also what would it cost to repaint all those external walls?

I saw that one too! Personally I think its ghastly. All the painting you'd have to do to get rid of the garish paint both in and outside

WOW! Thanks, I had no idea there was a way to see a house when it was sold previously! How did you do that?

I guess the buyers hated the plain white then went too far the other way!

I just looked up the sold house price on rightmove, sometimes they will have the previous listing attached. Also gives you a good idea of what other houses in the area are selling/have sold for. Good Luck!

wrongthinker · 04/08/2025 13:19

I think I've been to a party in that house!

chiefscoutsgoldaward · 04/08/2025 13:22

It's a pretty standard Victorian terrace layout - have a look a pictures on Rightmove for other houses on the same road to get an idea.

I'm in a Victorian terrace and there are a couple of roads near me that have some houses that were clearly built by the same developer and I have been stalking them on Rightmove to get ideas of what will work best when we do our kitchen/ side return extension.

Coffeebreakneeds · 04/08/2025 13:23

If you take out all of their personal items and mirrors on the wall etc it's mainly just a bit of paint and even then a lot of the walls are still white. The house looks in really good condition and a good layout. You could probably get a good deal as a lot of people won't be able to see past the colour and clutter.

Iwiicit · 04/08/2025 13:31

Ha ha! I really like it, it's got a very cheerful happy vibe. The outside pink is lovely, obviously the yellow pushes it over the edge somewhat but change it to white. The inside is mostly plain white underneath the rainbow dressing.

ChristPleaseJustStop · 04/08/2025 13:32

If you're struggling to see past décor, you may not yet have the maturity to purchase a property of this type. Have you considered looking at a new build? This sounds like it will be more suited to you.

MH0084 · 04/08/2025 13:36

I actually love the facade as it is! I see this as a house from someone who really loves where they live and take pride in their home. I would be glad to buy a house like this rather than the typical ran-down-neglected-all-white-can't-be-bothered homes.

Wayk · 04/08/2025 13:38

Walls are mostly pink or white. I would paint windows cream like the house on your left.

Mischance · 04/08/2025 13:41

The walls are pretty standard really. Once you take out the garish clutter it will be fine.

WonderingWanda · 04/08/2025 13:41

Look at the previous listing, entirely white and you can see it much more clearly

I actually love it!!

Once all of her stuff is removed, I think it will be a lovely house!!

Yes you will have to paint a fair amount white, but it wont be too hard.

How boring!!

Growlybear83 · 04/08/2025 14:13

I think the house is wonderful. That bright pink ceiling in the bathroom is glorious! If you don’t like the outside, it woukd look completely different if you just painted the window frames white or black, which you could easily do yourself.

Deadringer · 04/08/2025 14:13

I love it. Apart from the pink carpet the walls and floors are fairly neutral, and the bathroom is very plain. With all of the madly colourful bits and bobs gone it will look completely different.

I think it’s SO much nicer now.

If I wanted it, but not the budget to do it all at once, painting the windows and rails dark maybe to match next door would tone it down loads, leave the pink.

Indoors, the tiles, bathrooms, kitchen are all fairly neutral so once you’d slapped some magnolia on the walls it’d soon look different.

Agree with this, it’s only the bright yellow against the pink that looks very “loud” . I like colour in a house, but actually most of this is fairly neutral, it’s just the owners belongings that are colourful. Even in a less colourful house you would probably want to pain rooms etc, this isn’t any different. Painting the external frames and doors not a huge job.

starfishmummy · 04/08/2025 14:17

Depensing on cost, Id probably leave the exterior pink until it actully needs repainting due to wear , after all it is Brighton - but I'd get the window frames painted white rather than yellow which would improve the facade.

Most of the interior stuff will be moving with them. Repainting the inside walls would make a big difference. However I'd be worried about all the nails and hooks from the vast number of pictures and how much filling of holes would be needed and insist they made "good" before completion.

Christwosheds · 04/08/2025 14:21

I also like pink and yellow on a seaside house. The problem is that the yellow doesn’t work against that particular pink. It needs a less egg yolk yellow, eg a more acid yellow or a Primrose, or a softer warmer pink. It’s the combination of a cool based pink against a warm based yellow that looks wrong.

Cattery · 04/08/2025 14:30

Wowzer! Must be like living on the set of some kids’ tv programme. Love Brighton though. I’d love the house. Get to work with a tin of white paint x

CravingPotNoodle · 04/08/2025 14:46

Wow, who lives there? Barbie and Ken? 😂

pinkdelight · 04/08/2025 14:47

SecretNameforMN · 04/08/2025 13:16

It's OK I have years of experience of living in Bton!

Cool, well you should have built up immunity by now - and know the bones as there's loads of houses of that type with less clutter/colour to compare it with.

Gettingbysomehow · 04/08/2025 14:51

They certainly like yellow. The people who had my house before painted it all brown including the doors and door frames. I'm sick to death of painting it all white now. I'm losing the will to live.

columnatedruinsdomino · 04/08/2025 14:54

Love it! Don't know the 'good roads' to live in in Brighton but it's walkable to the beach and marina. Seems a reasonable price for 4 beds, if you view it then you'll have a better idea of kitchen and bathrooms' fittings. Parking would give me a headache but that's all.

VintageDiamondGirl · 04/08/2025 14:57

It’s not difficult to see that without all the contents, it’s actually quite blandy decorated inside. It’s a lovely house but I would definitely repaint the windows sills white.
