House for sale: struggling to see the bones of it!

I might be interested in this house but I am struggling to "see past" the current owner's decor! Also what would it cost to repaint all those external walls?

Wow, now that's an interesting house lol

MinPinSins · 04/08/2025 11:28

Are you genuinely struggling? It's a very typical terrace so doesn't take that much imagination.

I agree, I think it will probably end up going slightly cheaper than other similar properties because of some of the design choices.

If I wanted it, but not the budget to do it all at once, painting the windows and rails dark maybe to match next door would tone it down loads, leave the pink.

Indoors, the tiles, bathrooms, kitchen are all fairly neutral so once you’d slapped some magnolia on the walls it’d soon look different.

bad acid trip

Tiredofwhataboutery · 04/08/2025 11:31

It will probsbly go for less as “quirky”. I think once the owners stuff is gone it’d be a lot easier. I wonder if just repainting the door/ windows/ fence and it’d look less balamory to save painting the house.

Zempy · 04/08/2025 11:34

Hello potential neighbour!!

I wouldn’t bother repainting the outside. It’s normal here to have terraces of brightly coloured houses.

I think there’s a lovely house buried under all the tat. Yes, there will be a lot of internal painting to do, but you can take your time (unless it’s actually giving you a migraine!)

It already seems priced reasonably to reflect this to be honest.

Beachtastic · 04/08/2025 11:36

I lived in Brighton for a few years and my house started veering somewhat in this direction 😆 I think it's something in the sea air!!!

GasPanic · 04/08/2025 11:37

I see what you mean. My analysis can often be fairly clinical but all that colourful crap is massively distracting and makes it difficult to focus when looking at the pictures.

It shouldn't be too much of a job to get a quote for full repainting. Redoing the flooring could be pricy though, unless you can lay on top of what is currently there.

DorothyWainwright · 04/08/2025 11:38

I wouldn't repaint that outside pink, it's cheery.

The inside will be fine once their clutter is gone. A lot of the walls are white anyway. Just blitz the whole thing white. It looks bright and modern.

Can't wait for you to meet the owners OP!

Love quirky houses!

I mean I’d have to get the decorators on before I could move in, but it’s fabulous!

doglover90 · 04/08/2025 11:44

I love the outside pink! It looks like a fabulous house, just maybe needs white windows, fencing etc and internal repaint.

TheNinthLock · 04/08/2025 11:45

I would absolutely keep the outside pink, but get ride of the yellow external woodwork.
Inside a lot of the walls are already white, so once the colourful furnishings are removed it’ll be a whole different feel.
Its a good house!

LindorDoubleChoc · 04/08/2025 11:45

It's quite hard to see what they've done with the kitchen. Looks like they've used the side return without taking down the supporting wall? I noticed that the cooker, fridge and cupboards are all along what looks like a lightly painted brick wall (ie. no plaster or tiles) so that could be problematic?

But otherwise as pp has said, it's just a standard Victorian terrace. Fwiw, I hate living in mine ... I hate the linear shape (3 downstairs rooms in a row) and narrow downstairs hall and narrow garden. But there's not much choice where I live.

Marylou2 · 04/08/2025 11:47

What the heck? I'd never be able to unsee all this even after a million liters of white paint.

BeyondMyWits · 04/08/2025 11:48

Oh... I love it. The owners take their stuff away, and it is a really nice terraced house. Probably "the pink house next to the red one" locally.

Someone will buy it and change it into an identikit white with grey carpets and take the heart away. We bought ours because it was bright and "happy".

GoldDuster · 04/08/2025 11:48

The bones of it are just like every other standard Victorian terrace, you could paint the window frames and the railings another colour instead of the render to calm down the Mr Blobby vibe.

Michele09 · 04/08/2025 11:49

It will look very different once it's empty. Get a few friends and relatives round with rollers and paintbrushes and it will soon be all white again. Then you can gradually add your own choice of colours in your own time.

narkyspirit · 04/08/2025 11:50

its a bit Austin Powers

There is a middle ground between Timmy Mallets cast offs, and Griege

CalzoneOnLegs · 04/08/2025 11:51

@GoldDuster ‘Mr Blobby Vibe’ spot on 🤣🤣🤣🤣

DappledThings · 04/08/2025 11:52

I might repaint the window frames but I wouldn't touch the pink outside, it's glorious. Internally loads of it is white anyway. Nearly all the colour is is soft furnishings and pictures that will be taken away anyway.

I think it's fabulous as it is mind you

Moveoverdarlin · 04/08/2025 11:53

Bloody hell. I wasn’t prepared for that.
