House for sale: struggling to see the bones of it!

I might be interested in this house but I am struggling to "see past" the current owner's decor! Also what would it cost to repaint all those external walls?

I love the pink exterior. Id paint the yellow white and leave it as it is

Retrouvailles · 04/08/2025 11:55

I'd buy this house in a heartbeat - so much potential here - lovely house!

PInkyStarfish · 04/08/2025 11:56

I looked at the photos without noticing the location and then knew it was going to be Brighton!

Horrifc to my eyes and would make it difficult to relax in but each to their own taste.

What I really hate is the grotty white tiles in the bathroom that make it look like a public toilet from the the 1960s/70s.

Soonenough · 04/08/2025 11:57

I would love to meet the owners.

pennypans · 04/08/2025 11:58

I love the outside, it's like a fruit salad!

It's very generic shape & layout on the inside though so what are you struggling with?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 04/08/2025 11:59

Just look (and only look) at the floor plan.
everything else can be changed.
as pp says, tiles and kitchen are fairly neutral so the basics are fine.
i think I’d be tempted to paint everything in Dulux Timeless so I can understand the flow of the house, then gradually introduce colour.

pennypans · 04/08/2025 12:00

I'd keep the pink outside but change the yellow

The bones of it are just like every other standard Victorian terrace, you could paint the window frames and the railings another colour instead of the render to calm down the Mr Blobby vibe.

Exactly this ^

It's easy to see past the colourful tat to the bones beneath.

I'd keep the pink outside, although would change the yellow window frames and railings. Inside, buried under all that 'stuff' are several white walls, which I'd want to change along with the barbie pink/sunshine yellow as I like colour (just not as in your face bright as the vendor's). I imagine many people who love white/grey interiors would be horrified by some of our design/colour choices!

mumda · 04/08/2025 12:01

They'll take all the photos with them.

@PattySupper I cannot believe it’s the same place

LibertyLily · 04/08/2025 12:05

Blimey @PattySupper - what a transformation!

I would love to meet the owners.

I bet they're boring as hell. Every room is almost identical, I've never seen something scream "I need you to find me strange and unique!" so desperately before. I'm far from a minimalist and hate it when old houses are smashed into grey submission, but this is just consumerist vomit.

EasternStandard · 04/08/2025 12:06

With everything removed it’s actually pretty easy to calm it down.

You don’t even have to repaint the exterior just change the yellow frames and fence.

Most rooms are white and you can go over some of the pink and yellow inside.

RB68 · 04/08/2025 12:08

IF you examine the actual building the majority is white - odd accent wall and woodwork but actually not horrendous and not a big job to change. Mirrors in bright colours, rugs, furniture and knick knacks will all go - it is def a "style" but the building looks well maintained and sound. Some of the radiators are coloured but again not hugely offensive when taken on their own and would be easy to tone down the style choice - personally I think it will go for less than others without the colour explosion but actually once the owners stuff is gone it will be fine - well other than the yellow window frames outside but actually it fits the street scene so could be left until they need doing

24Dogcuddler · 04/08/2025 12:09

Blimey! On a positive note the footprint is good.
Someone really likes pink and yellow.
Looks like Mr Blobby exploded in a Museum of Religion!
I’m sure you could work with it.

CalzoneOnLegs · 04/08/2025 12:11

The kitchen units have been painted and some worktops covered in cath kidston ‘fablon’ it’s not going to be easy to transform that kitchen

Here is what it looked last time it was for sale.

WOW! Thanks, I had no idea there was a way to see a house when it was sold previously! How did you do that?

I guess the buyers hated the plain white then went too far the other way!

Hideous. My idea of hell and unless it was under budget I wouldn’t look twice at it.

rainbowunicorn22 · 04/08/2025 12:13

very boho, love it. If you wanted it when all the furnishings and trinkets are gone, then it would be quite different

It's almost as if they super rebelled following purchasing a bland redevelopment.

I actually quite like the before. Sad as it may sound. Lovely kitchen tiles which look like a decent job, at least from the photo. Which they appear to have either removed or covered with something - there are no words.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 04/08/2025 12:16

I think the pink exterior is fine, it's the yellow windows and railings that are the problem. If you paint those in a different colour it will look great

Assuming it's structurally sound, it will be a good house. You can paint the rooms one by one.
