House for sale: struggling to see the bones of it!

I might be interested in this house but I am struggling to "see past" the current owner's decor! Also what would it cost to repaint all those external walls?

It's almost as if they super rebelled following purchasing a bland redevelopment.

I actually quite like the before. Sad as it may sound. Lovely kitchen tiles which look like a decent job, at least from the photo. Which they appear to have either removed or covered with something - there are no words.

It's a blank canvas for all sorts of lovely stuff to be gradually accumulated over a happy interesting life. Or, it was. 😅

pinkdelight · 04/08/2025 12:23

It's a test to see whether living in Brighton is going to irritate the hell out of you after a while. If you can tolerate this and see beyond it, you may be okay. If not, run for the hills/downs!

My first thought was definitely of ill will toward Brighton. You're absolutely right. I'm amused that this house is the thing, of many things, that's spun me into a paddy today. I think I'll put my phone away now. 🫠

Thingsthatgo · 04/08/2025 12:28

It’s in Hanover. I don’t think the colours will put people off - it’s part of the charm of the area.

housethatbuiltme · 04/08/2025 12:30

I like it... it feels cluttered as I don't like picture walls but they will take that with them. I like the pinks and blues, might tone down the yellow but thats not hard.

I could probably move in as is decor wise, its a million times better than awful landlord greyge (or the month I have spent stripping nicotine stained woodchip in the house I bought).

Viviennemary · 04/08/2025 12:33

It's unbelievable! But presumably all the tat will be removed. Basically a very nice house.

Soonenough · 04/08/2025 12:40

@RabbitFurCoat You mean like I'm bonkers Me ! type ?😁 I guess I am wondering why and at the same time admiring the time spent hanging and coordinating all the work . Seems like there is a kids art room for classes there too.

IleftmybaginNewportPagnell · 04/08/2025 12:42

Love that the EA describes it as “vibrant”.
When I saw that first pic on your post I knew it was Brighton! At least you’re not buying opposite and looking at it every day…
I’d look closely at the finish of their work - my old next door neighbour years ago painted everything grey including woodwork. She then put it up for sale, the photos were the opposite - just looked black and white. When new neighbour moved in I got to see the poor finish of it all.
I’d definitely view it and take your time to gauge whether it’s all been done well or bright colour just slapped on, e.g. the radiators - were they bought in those colours or overpainted?

RantzNotBantz · 04/08/2025 12:42

Look at the floorplan.

If it suits you, if the location suits you, go and have a look to get a feel of the room sizes etc.

Love it or not, they have put a lot of work and cost into it. Adding railings etc.

Close family member lives in Brighton and if she calls it “right-on Brighton” one more time I will 🤬

AgnesX · 04/08/2025 12:46

I figured it was Brighton before I'd even read the blurb.

It's actually quite a nice house if you can get past the colour scheme. Fortunately a lot of it seems to be the furnishings. No idea about the cost of a decorator for outdoors though

martinisforeveryone · 04/08/2025 12:47

The best thing about the outside decor is that you don't have to spend much time looking at it if it's your house, other than the back fencing, which is also that hideous yellow that they've used so much. Far worse for the people across the street.

They've gone for the same distinctive flooring more or less throughout as well and the best thing I can say about the style is that they definitely know what they like and have committed to it. Not something I could live with at all and a lot of work to eradicate.

It's not going to be cheap for the owners' removals either that's for sure. All that packing up.

dairydebris · 04/08/2025 12:52

This is one of the most Brighton houses in Brighton I've ever seen.

Bones look great and all you need is quite a lot of white paint.

TheCurious0range · 04/08/2025 12:52

We had the outside of our house painted last year it took a week and cost £1200 the guy was really thorough did lots of prep also seaside but south east

Meem321 · 04/08/2025 12:56

I can't help but feel that they missed an opportunity with the shower room and garden... Both very bland in comparison.

geoger · 04/08/2025 13:00

That’s a good house
Keep the pink outside but get rid of the yellow. The loft has already been done, bathrooms look decent (just paint the walls/ceilings), windows are good, shutters done, garden landscaped and nice radiators too. There’s nothing really there that a lick of paint can’t sort. I need a better look at the kitchen tho not sure how good the units are

Gingercar · 04/08/2025 13:01

Good old Brighton! I used to live there but grew out of it in my 30s. I’d choose the pink over the red house to the right, but I’d prefer the cream one to the right. If you painted the window frames and the fence white the front would be bearable. The back garden pic looks like a pile of liquorice allsorts!

Joelz · 04/08/2025 13:04

That's a standard Victorian terrace. As the others have said, paint the yellow frames white and leave the pink. It will look completely different, The kitchen units seem to be painted too? I'd spend my money on that. Otherwise, its just standard redecoration inside as most people do when they move in - albeit you'd need to live with the colour scheme whilst you do each room,

DesignAndConkerInteriors · 04/08/2025 13:08

Remove the colourful clutter, blink a few times and take a new perspective. It's not that bad, just visually invasive

Tupster · 04/08/2025 13:08

Most of the "character" will leave with the owners. There is a lot of neutral white on the walls and floors.

Onthewaytothemountains · 04/08/2025 13:11

You'll have to repaint every wall as there will be marks where all the pictures etc are hung. And quite a lot of work with kitchen worktops etc. But most houses look quite scruffy or present problems when you move in so hopefully it'll be no worse!

Tblock1800 · 04/08/2025 13:12

i echo a few comments on here. It's got Brighton written all over this house doesn't it haha immediately knew it was brighton from the outside

It's OK I have years of experience of living in Bton!

Coloured houses a bit of a thing in Bristol and also in Tobermory (which I've also visited).I would keep it pink as it will fade, and anyway you spend more time inside looking out than vice versa.
Kirstie Allsop was showing people around a hoarded house once on LLL. She said if you can't see beyond the current owner's belongings then look at the ceiling to get an idea of the floor space.

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 04/08/2025 13:17

That looks like a LOT of dusting.
But, a nice house underneath it all.
