Looking at completing / moving in a date which is also my mum's birthday. Would that bother anyone else or just go for it?

No longer live with my mum

Gundogday · 12/04/2025 23:05

That wouldn’t bother me, unless was you live close and always spend the day with her. Could you ask her if she minds you completing on that day?

HermioneWeasley · 12/04/2025 23:05

It wouldn’t even occur to me

murasaki · 12/04/2025 23:05

Of course. Go get your house. My mum would be pleased for me.

Anonym00se · 12/04/2025 23:07

Of course. Why not?

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 12/04/2025 23:08

We did exactly this! Mum came along to help unpack and then we all went out to dinner for joint celebrations!

Seawolves · 12/04/2025 23:08

I would go for it too.

brunettenorthern91 · 12/04/2025 23:09

depends on the scale of the move, if you rope your other family in to help (on her birthday) and if you think she’s the type that puts others first 24/7, even on her birthday. I don’t think completing on the house is an issue per se, I’d just pre-empt it and recuse yourself from festivities but not oblige others to assist you, if she has plans or normally does something with them (such as siblings). My dad would probably help me move, my mum would too, but would be hurt it was on her birthday

Changingplace · 12/04/2025 23:09

It would’ve even occur to me that this would be an issue, house buying takes so long if happens when it happens, I wouldn’t be stalling because of a birthday.

mjf981 · 13/04/2025 05:08

I think its odd that you think this could be an issue? Are birthdays a massive celebration in your family? Mine wouldn't care at all. Your Mum isn't even one of the people moving.

Redglitter · 13/04/2025 05:14

Unless its a big birthday with plans already made then I wouldn't give it a second thought

DisforDarkChocolate · 13/04/2025 05:15

It wouldn't occur to me to delay completion for that

TappyGilmore · 13/04/2025 05:19

I don’t see why not. Surely if you do normally see your mum on her birthday, you can still go out for lunch or dinner or whatever on the same day.

Fastingandhungry · 13/04/2025 05:24

Eh? Why not.

BlondiePortz · 13/04/2025 05:27

Would the other party be ok with it anyway?

But no wouldn't have crossed my mind

oviraptor21 · 13/04/2025 05:30

Wouldn't occur to me either. Even for immediate family we'd just move the celebration to another day.

B1indEye · 13/04/2025 06:12

Would anyone delay a house move chain because it was someonea birthday? Surely thats not a thing, no one would ever be able to move 😁

Sofiewoo · 13/04/2025 06:13

Why would it bother you? 😂 do you never do anything on family member’s birthdays??

CheeseWisely · 13/04/2025 06:16

Like others, wouldn’t cross my mind unless there’s further info coming that it’s her 80th and a huge family dinner is planned for that day?

LovingGoldJoker · 13/04/2025 06:29

I changed our chain’s proposed move date by 1 day so we didn’t move on my son’s 11th birthday. I wouldn’t have seen him/he wouldn’t have seen us all day if we’d gone with the birthday date as needed a family member to look after him on moving day. Wouldn’t have changed it for an adult though.

NW3Lady · 13/04/2025 06:31

Yes, this wouldn’t be an issue for me. Good luck! Hopefully all will go smoothly and she’ll be delighted for you.

pilates · 13/04/2025 06:34

Yes it wouldn’t cross my mind not to

ForWhomTheBellPepperTolls · 13/04/2025 07:17

This wouldn’t even register with me. Buying/selling houses is such a stressful and fragile process, I wouldn’t delay completion for a birthday.

We completed on the day of a family friend’s funeral. We went to the service and then picked up the keys. While far from ideal, but it had to be done.

SparkyBlue · 13/04/2025 07:22

It wouldn't enter my head not to.

distinctpossibility · 13/04/2025 07:25

We moved on my daughter's first birthday... Just celebrated a couple of days later. Really would not even occur to me to delay something so important for a birthday...

Doris86 · 13/04/2025 07:29

Can’t see why this even an issue, and find it bizarre that someone might think it was.
