Would you complete on a day that is a family members birthday?

Looking at completing / moving in a date which is also my mum's birthday. Would that bother anyone else or just go for it?

No longer live with my mum

Of course you would move house on that date. It wouldn't even occur to me to delay due to a birthday particularly if the rest of the chain had agreed to it

Myfamiliescleaner · 13/04/2025 07:32

It wouldn’t have even crossed my mind to put the two together.

2025willbemytime · 13/04/2025 07:33

Obviously. What a strange consideration.

Twiglets1 · 13/04/2025 07:33

Yes - it’s hard enough for everyone in the chain to agree on a convenient completion date without people bringing family birthdays into it!

Hdjdb42 · 13/04/2025 07:39

I think that's fine. Make sure you send a gift and card beforehand. Even have flowers delivered on the day, so you don't have to think about it. You can always ring her in the morning while you wait for the removals van.

sunshineandshowers40 · 13/04/2025 07:43

Wouldn't be an issue for me. Would want to avoid DCs birthdays. Is your mum being funny about it?

babyno2isdue · 13/04/2025 08:11

We completed on my dm 60th birthday, I was two weeks from giving birth and two weeks from Christmas, we really had no choice. Went round in the morning while waiting for the call to give gifts and then she came along with other family helped up unpack the essentials (did it all without movers) and the. Went out for a meal to celebrate it was a busy stressful day but as I said we had no other option

PoppyBaxter · 13/04/2025 08:11

I'd complete on Christmas day! Buying a house is so much more significant than any birthday and needs to get done whenever it can.

Bananafofana · 13/04/2025 08:17

I wouldn’t give it a moments thought

LadyNairne · 13/04/2025 08:21

Of course. It wouldn’t even occur to me to think about it.

Dolphinnoises · 13/04/2025 08:22

Is your mum quite hard work?

annoyedandbored · 13/04/2025 08:23

Yes absolutely but I wouldn't rope parents in to help with the move

Coconutter24 · 13/04/2025 08:32

It wouldn’t even cross my mind to not complete on that day just because of a birthday and certainly wouldn’t ask her if it’s ok with her if I do.

faerietales · 13/04/2025 08:33

Of course. It wouldn’t even cross my mind not to.

Motherknowsrest · 13/04/2025 08:34

Of course. It wouldn't even be an issue.
My mum would be more concerned about the house move falling into place.

AprilBunny · 13/04/2025 08:35

It’s not a thing.

Floranan · 13/04/2025 08:35

my son is about to exchange on his first house, I would love it if he completed on my birthday! I won’t be able to spend the day with them and if they completed on a different day they would visit and spend time with me so I would miss out on seeing them, but the excitement for them, I would love it

Bluevelvetsofa · 13/04/2025 08:48

We completed and moved on my birthday. It just meant an excuse to abandon the unpacking for a while and get a takeaway.

augustusglupe · 13/04/2025 09:19

Why wouldn’t you? 🤷🏻‍♀️
I’d move on my birthday. The joy of completing and moving at the mo would be present enough.

Upsidedownsides · 13/04/2025 09:21

I can’t believe you would piss around the others in your chain for your mums birthday. I’d be livid if someone did this to me.

I’d expect your EA and solicitor to tell you that you’re nuts as well.

Springhassprungthesunisout · 13/04/2025 09:32

We completed on our first wedding anniversary. Friends and family came to help us move and unpack the kitchen stuff and then had a BBQ in the garden to celebrate! 🥳

BeaLola · 13/04/2025 09:55

Unless it's her 60th, 70tj 80th and there's a family meal already planned that if you moved you would miss I would complete on that day - just be organised and ensure her card /gifts arrive on time or deliver them earlier if you live near by

CarrieOnComplaining · 13/04/2025 10:05

I would not in a million years expect my Dc to work around my birthday, and potentially mess a whole chain around.

Because I am not infantile / a narcissist / insecure over their love.

Do what works best for you. House buying and moving is stressful enough.

Plus Completion happens on a weekday and no one can expect everyone to drop everything on a weekday birthday, surely?

Advocodo · 13/04/2025 13:23

Wouldn’t bother me in the slightest.

QuillBill · 13/04/2025 13:36

I’ve completed twice on my own birthday. It did not cross my mind that I should change it. I’ve also moved seven days after giving birth and had to get a hotel room for the day and night. The baby was late in my defence.
