Does this flooring look ridiculous?

Had new chevron flooring laid today and it doesn’t look right to me. I think the chevrons don’t marry up and it just looks a bit odd. Is it because of the size of the room?

Any advice would be appreciated

It hasn't been trimmed to size or anything. Terrible , I sent it to my friend who runs a wood floor shop and he said was the fitter blind?

Glad the professionals agree!

We are having lots of work done so they’ll be back tomorrow, will say to them then

It doesn't look like it's been laid in the right pattern, I don't know if this photo of ours helps at all but the chevrons are kind of staggered.

This is herringbone. So a slightly Different pattern to OP.

Op your tiles are laid at the wrong angle in some areas. Chevron pattern should continue all the way in one direction from end to end. Then back again the other way.

Gloriainextremis · 29/01/2025 18:10

Oh blimey, that's awful.

Doggymummar · 29/01/2025 18:10

Just realised it's planks rather than wood block (parquet) flooring, maybe the best they could do with that type.

Yes it’s laminate. It didn’t look like that in the shop, it was definitely chevron pattern

Just realised why I was confused. Why have they changed direction in the blue circled bit?

Because theyve done it wrong! Thats the point of the post

You cant always tell when you're laying it.

Hemlocked · 29/01/2025 18:12

What type of flooring is it?

Hang on, those are floor tiles! Long rectangular floor tiles printed to look like many narrow floor boards at an angle. No wonder it didn’t work! What a mess. They definitely need to be redone but I think you’re going to have to work it out first by laying them down wi the our adhesive.

JC03745 · 29/01/2025 18:17

Makes me feel sick looking at it! 😬

We had a simpler pattern laid in a previous house. After day 1, we realised the guy had no clue what he was doing- despite assurances and photos of someones previous work. We had to find someone else to pull it up and start again!

I'd be concerned that if they can't even see or notice they have drastically changed the pattern, how will the rest of it go???

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 29/01/2025 18:20

Oh that's bad. Bits are the wrong way around. Was it a reputable fitter? I'd be complaining now.

Beautifulweeds · 29/01/2025 18:20

Sorry but this isn't what it's supposed to look like, needs to flow and match up. Xx

TheBerry · 29/01/2025 18:21

I am staggered that a professional could do this honestly. Like, how hard is it to make all the boards go in the right direction to form the chevron pattern?? He has literally just randomly put some boards the wrong way round and clearly ruined the pattern. Unless he has some kind of dyspraxia or something I can’t comprehend how he could’ve done this and just think it’s fine.

Sorry OP.

He 100% has to redo it, he doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

I think the colour is fine 🙂 maybe have some bright colours in the decor so it’s not all too beige.

Gingercatlover · 29/01/2025 18:23

Planks should go in one direction in each row, who ever did this, didn't know what they were doing, this is mine

OneBadKitty · 29/01/2025 18:28

Op's floor is patterned tiles which look a bit like wood blocks, not parquet. However, the fitter has laid some tiles the wrong way round- it looks terrible, you definitely need to ask them to redo!

HellsBalls · 29/01/2025 18:32

Should look like this.

That gives me vertigo! But at least it's straight

It looks like cheap adhesive floor tiles stuck down wrong. Definitely complain and get them to do it properly

Would you like a saucer of milk to lap up after your catty cheap floor tile remark? 🐈‍⬛🐈

NewHeaven · 29/01/2025 18:59

Looks like your fitter had a few pints before he laid the floor. Complain and get them to redo the floor.

MrsSkylerWhite · 29/01/2025 19:02

That’s not good. I’d expect it taken up and relaid completely.

How did they get it so wrong?

Though saying that, we had a “tiler” once who couldn’t see that patterned tiles were supposed to match up!

JollyViper · 29/01/2025 19:23

Is the fitter recommended from the flooring supplier? I had similar badly fitted laminate done by the store fitter (tapi - awful company) it was so bad, and he was aggressive about it and refused to leave without payment in full! I did get it back eventually.
Fingers crossed you get it sorted at no extra expense.

poemsandwine · 29/01/2025 19:24

Can you make them lay it down properly? That's shit work. Sorry.

BoldRed · 29/01/2025 19:42

It’s neither chevron or herringbone. It’s chaos! This is my floor which is herringbone.

Floralnomad · 29/01/2025 19:45

It looks terrible sorry but aside from it not being laid well I think it is much too busy for a small space .

seven201 · 29/01/2025 19:56

Definitely randomly changed direction and need sorting. My friend had her bathroom tiled and it was meant to be herringbone, but the tiler made such a mess they ended up with it just as diagonal just to get it done.

I'm coming to the defence of it being too busy for a small space - my herringbone LVT doesn't look good in photos, it looks really streaky and fake, but in real life it looks much less busy and lovely!
